Ran a 10k in June (2 Viewers)

Setting up for a 50 mile week that just blows my mind still.Next week even more with my first 20 miler on tap I think.
Nice job man! That distance still is mystery to me, someday . . .maybe.

5 miles @ 9:40 pace today. :boxing:
:hifive: I did 6 today @ 10:20 something. Suckex @ 145, was supposed to be a recovery run. Ran it faster than the 9 I did yesterday, ahh the beauty of being a slow a toad

10/6 LT run today -- suckex was about 90, maybe a little less, but I gutted it out and did the 6 LT miles at 7:36/mi. Now I just need to do 17 on Saturday, which should be cake, and then one more week of real training before the taper.

Where are you, the Gobi desert? :P It's actually pretty unusual to get that low, certainly at this time of year. Oh, man, what I would have done yesterday for a 50F/75%RH day.

This morning was about 48 air temp, 40 or so dew point.

Back at it this morning for a 12-miler after a couple of days off (one planned, one unplanned). Took a while for my legs to wake up, so I started slow, but I ended up feeling good and splitting 48:32/45:45 en route to an overall average of 7:52/mile. Weather was decent (61/57 at the start) but I was still sopping wet by the time I was done.

Gonna do a super easy 8-miler this afternoon and then hopefully 20 tomorrow morning and another 18 on Saturday. We'll see if it actually happens, but that's the plan. This ultra stuff is ridiculous.

ETA: Oh, yeah. I took Brees. And Jimmy Graham. And Sproles. Go Saints.

None taken.IK - I'm getting excited for you! You're going to have a great race.

I switched my weekend race to a small, neighborhood 5K. The logistics of a big HM (with Saturday packet pickup in the city) were too much. The 5K should only have about 200 people in it, and based on the last couple years, I should be top 5 or 10.

Going to take a lot of discipline to not run tonight and Saturday, it's been 3 days and I'm getting that itch. Hit the weights Tuesday and again this morning, started doing supersets as a substitute for my lost cardio, but it isn't the same. Wedding Friday and across state Sunday for my brother and nephew's birthdays, but nothing tonight or Saturday. :wall:

:doingthemath: So 26.2 + 10 + 12 + 8 + 20 + 18 = 94.2 in a week. :excited:

I consider my training weeks to run from Monday to Sunday, but technically, yeah, that's 94.2 in a 7-day span.

You could always run Naperville Trails Half Marathon with me Sunday! Logistics are pretty easy.

As for Me v. Wraith, smart money is on Wraith. Dude has been downright religious to his HIM training plan, whereas, I am not sure I am fully recovered from the Survival Tri a few weeks back.
The London oddsmakers are unmoved by your poor-mouthing efforts.
I am sure similar thoughts went through Floyd Mayweather's noggin when he plunked down $3 Million on Michigan getting 14 last weekend.

My vote is for this. Perfect DWD tune up T-Man!!!!!ETA, because you'll probably have to run about 20 miles that weekend due to The Edgar Factor.

My bet is that the medal monger sticks with his local 5K. ;)

Moi?  Juxt, I was leaning toward the Naperville HM, but the logistics interfere with church. I might be swayed, knowing you'll be running it, but having already signed up for the other, I'll go medal shopping on the north side (not that I wouldn't pull hardware in Naperville since the top runners from the CARA race circuit are doing a downtown HM that morning). 2Young - the Naperville race is crushed limestone and quite flat ...not much of a preview for the hills and mud of DWD in two weeks. I am prepared for heavy mileage that day since you guys are coming off your half-IM. Beer 302 - I'll see what I can do!

Good luck. Let me know if you change your mind.

grue - dominating like usual.

Ran a 10k this morning, figured I'd run comfortably for the first 5k and negative split the return. Went out without checking my watch except to ensure it was working, at 5k I'm at 22:37, not a bad 7:19 pace although about 11 seconds faster than I thought I was going. Figured I'd struggle to hit the same on the return. Finished at 44:01, so accomplished my goal. :)

7 miles in the books this morning with 8x100 m strides.

Temps thankfully just 68/66 this morning...but the air still felt nice and thick.

Right calf was a bit tight but worked out a bit, hopefully it does not stiffen up too much today before tomorrow's 18.

Didn't dominate this morning. Blew off the 20. Tired and sore after the 12/8 double yesterday. I'll hopefully do the 20 tomorrow instead.Like I told my friends on FB, I'm excited to run JFK, but at the same time, I kinda wish I wasn't doing it. Really struggling to find the motivation to fight through the fatigue/soreness to do so many long runs. I'm 99% sure that I'm going to be "one and done" at the distance, and by extension, I highly doubt that I'll enter the lottery for Western States.

I feel the same way by the time I'm about at the end of my 5k swim prep. Tired of following that damn black line for eternity. Worth it on race morning, knowing you are ready. And even better kicking it in and crossing the finish line in style.

I hear ya. That's why I totally understood when Michael Phelps said that he's done swimming competitively for the same reason.

Ahh...I remember this point in training...roughly 8 weeks out and having nothing left in the tank except a walk after 25 miles on much easier terrain. You'll be laughing at this statement when you hit mile 40 and your second wind kicks in. You'll crush it and it will be even odds if you hit up facebook first to post your success or google first to find your next event.

If you don't believe me, then put some money behind that 99%. $10 from me to you if you're one and done, $1000 from you to me if you do another in the next 2 years.

On a practical note, this is exactly where you want to be at in your training. Don't worry about the weekly mileage total, just keep beating yourself to this point and then rest up. Rinse and repeat as much as possible. If that means only 3-4 runs a week, that's plenty of training sessions. Also, I don't know if you have access to a gym, but hitting the stair mill a couple of times a week is low impact and great training for that huge opening climb in your event.

 BTW, BnB, I have tentatively put BS&G on my schedule for next year. Heck, if PSL drives over here he can stop over with me for the night and we can roll up there together.

Awesome. Sign-up is usually in Feb. Unfortunately it opens at mid-night and fills within hours. My place is in Beech Mountain, NC if you want to see how far that is from you. Food and beer on the house for anyone who makes the drive and rides the event.

Wait listed for the Shut-in Ridge Run (currently 31st).

Mt. Mitchell Ultra lottery is Saturday, notifications go out on Sunday.

425 miles, no sweat.I can handle the signup - definitely broadcast it in here so I can mark it down. I managed to get into Iceman Cometh, which was about the same. Sadly I think I'm going to have to skip that one.

Good luck to all the racers this weekend!

Forecast is showing about 60 degrees for my HM on Sunday. Hopefully that holds (knock on wood). It's been a long time since I've ran in cool weather like that. My heel (actually, I think it's my lower Achilles as Ivan suggested) seems to have responded well to rest. I don't think it will be a big deal. I am certainly going to shoot for sub 1:30 knocking over a minute off my PR. Hopefully my mind and body cooperate!

Do well! I hope you blow past the PR.

A good couple of runs last two days.

Thursday morning - did 7.33 miles at 8:51 pace. Pretty easy throughout.

Friday morning - did 10 miles at 8:25. Of which four of the miles were between 7:40-7:50 which is slightly faster than the 8 min/mile marathon pace.

Rest day tomorrow for a fantasy football draft in New York City.

Sunday is my long run. Probably 18ish miles depending on family commitments and how many :banned: at the draft.

Go get 'em Jux!!!!_________________I'm back on the elliptical band wagon. I did 70 minutes today, and feel amazing right now, compared to feeling pretty crappy after each run. I'm wondering if Elliptical workouts can transfer to running workouts? IF I can train on the elliptical to get most mileage/effort accomplished, I'll have a much better chance of at least sniffing another starting line. Has anybody tried this before? I'm also back to full strength+ on P90x. EVERY lift this week was at least tied with the previous PR, and I exceeded many :flex: After taking 5 weeks off, it took virtually 5 weeks to get back to full strength. I'm not too happy with what the scale says for biking, but I'm assuming/hoping it is mostly muscle weight.

GL this weekend to all the racers, looks like a cold front moving in late weekend beginning of next week here so I'm hoping you all have some great weather to run in

Have a question for the group, how do you carry enough hydration for a long run, say 16 miles or so? I'm struggling with carrying all the "stuff" for a run that long. I've got a 20oz Nathan that fits a pack of GU nicely but I really about double that for this distance. I don't really feel like driving the route at 4am to stash a bottle someplace. Any suggestions? Just carry another bottle?

Camelback. My favorite long run at our last place had a gas station at the halfway point, just off the trail. Perfect for refills and the occasional treat.
