I forget how we got on the subject, but my 11yo has informed me the other day that she intends to break the world record in the marathon someday...and that includes the MEN'S record.

... what more could you want out of your kid? Moxy without limit.... I love it!
Yah, moxie, that's my daughter.

Now that I think about it, I'll have to ask her if she's planning to break the marathon record during the 2012 Olympics...right after she wins the gold in gymnastics.

I wouldn't put it past her.

That's how we got on this gymnastics kick...she watched the 2004 Olympics. No, really, I mean she
watched the Olympics. She didn't just wander into the room now and then while her mother and I were watching, and she didn't just show up for the event finals. She
watched just about everything. She watched the opening/closing ceremonies, she watched the Women's Marathon with me, she watched the minor events on Bravo and MSNBC that few people watch. She watched the Equestrian events..."I wanna do that!"...she watched the pole vault..."I wanna do that!!"...fortunately she really only got a burr under her saddle for gymnastics, tho I'm sure she could do anything she set her mind to. She still mentions the O-word ("Olympics") every now and then, so I'm probably going to have to sit down with her coach here in the near future to map out a strategy. She's taking classes at the YMCA here, and I believe they only go up to level 7 (Olympic class = level 10), so I'm probably going to have to get a mortgage on my mortgage and a couple more jobs and find her a private coach. I'll be sure to offer an FBG discount for her autograph.
ETA: she's pretty much the senior gymnast in her class now (replacing the previous 'gymqueens' as they've aged and moved onto other teen pursuits), and she's developed a bit of a swagger.

Amazing what a bit of confidence and ability can bring out in a person. Here's yet another reason to find her another gym. We've always had to challenge her academically, now it looks like we'll have to do the same athletically. She's nearing the top of this ladder (her current gym), so a new gym should provide better gymnasts for her to climb over.

Awesome! The first step is to make a goal = not a bad one to start with!
Yeah, but it's *MY* goal. I wanna be the first to break two hours!!
