Ran a 10k - Official Thread (9 Viewers)

I just approved a person with the initials 'JW' to join our Strava group.   Who is that here just so we are all aware?

I tried to do my tempo workout and it was a fail today.  I just didn't have it in me.  I considered bailing on it, but I'm on vacation and I didn't want this looming over me.

So I grinded through the best I could and got it behind me.

Run Streak is at 60 days and I'm starting to think its probably time to end it soon.  Legs could probably use a break and having a successful marathon training cycle is far more important than a stupid run streak.  Rain likely on Friday so that might be the day to take a break.

How's the glute?  Fully recovered or just running through it?

I have my first challenge to stay on track coming up this weekend. scheduled to do 'just' a 10 miler at some point... I have 4 baseball games to umpire Saturday (9/11:15/1:30 and 6) and another 4 to do on Sunday (9/11/1/3)... And family wants to go see Black Widow at some point. I'll get out and run, but it might be a little shorter than 10...

rain may take care of some of that and give a window. Also if I'm on the bases for the 6 pm game, I might go out in that gap between games. It's only supposed to be like 78 here as the high and I'll have a couple hours or so to kill.

Successful marathon training requires prioritization and sacrifice. You may not want to long run Friday night or before 6 am Sat, but that's the hand you've been dealt.

Yeah, right now I'm just working on deciding when to do it - early Saturday or late Sunday are probably the best options, I'd just have to convince myself to get up that early on Saturday. There's not really a reason for me to not get it done other than just making excuses. Usually posting it 'out loud' makes it harder for me to make the excuses.

If I can wake up at 4:30 in the morning on a Saturday and run when I'm NOT training for a marathon you can do it too.

See you in this thread Saturday morning!

knock it out Saturday morning and then enjoy umping all those games knowing the run is complete.

Thanks for asking!

I can't say its fully recovered but its a 1000% better.  I don't think about it much when running anymore.  I'm very careful to stretch it after every run.  There are a few moments I feel it just walking around the house, but I think my deliberate methodical approach has paid off huge dividends.  I'm feeling pretty confident that it won't impact my fall marathons.  #KnockOnWood

Saw that one today... If it hadnt been a planned workout for 2 extra miles, I'd say you flat out kilt it- as you've been doing big time with all of your marathon training. But since its a planned workout missing 2 miles- what's your deal tryimg to pass off that failed lame ### "run" on strava. Have you no shame, sir?

If I ran it straight through, I would not disagree with you.  However, I stopped every mile to reset so my paces don’t reflect me stopping my watch.

The whole run was a train wreck.  Glad it’s over.  I’m already terrified for next weeks tempo.

I was genuinely breaking your balls there, gb- in awe of the run, regardless of whether it was 2m off or not.

I was actually thinking about your run and my comment (hoping you'd see it as the joke it was meant) on my own run this am. Planned to do 4x 1m intervals w 1m recoveries, while also seeing what kind of dent i could put into a local strava segment. 78deg, 94hum, 76dp...sweaty, but not killer. But i took my recovery run yesterday a little fast and felt punished today on my so-called "fast" sections. By the end of the 2nd interval, i knew it wasnt my day. Considered bailing on the last one, but kept thinking about your run (the kick ### part) and pushed through...slower than hmp, but done.

There's some confirmation bias baked into this, but I can't help but laugh when reviewing where I am in a training cycle vs. sleep data. Going back to last summer I didn't first string together a few healthy weeks of training until March. Prior to that point I was consistently between 7.1 and 7.4 hours of sleep/night - I stopped scrolling sometime in October. Starting in March...

March, 7.6 hours sleep/night

April, 7.8h

May, 7.9h

June, 8.1h

July so far, 8.5h

And this is reason #737 I am not a morning runner.

I get ~8 hours/night and get up at 0410 to run.

It's possible.

Maybe not with kids, but it is possible!
Right, this may be feasible for 2035 MAC that goes to bed before the sun, but not this or any recent iterations. Wind down time does not even begin until sometime between 9 and 10 pm.

@ChiefD gets up at 2AM to run on Saturdays and he has kids (and probably gets up early because of kids, actually. )
Well, not 2AM but in the summer I'll get up around 4 or 4:30 for a couple reasons:

1. Kids. Wife can't complain I am impacting their day if I am home by 7 AM.

2. Our lettuce guy at the farmers market starts getting a massive line if you get there past about 7:30 or so. He grows it hydroponically and its seriously the best lettuce ever. He will have 30-40 people deep starting at around 7:45.

Now imagine you have a 6-month-old AND your favorite NBA team is in the Finals.  Stupid 8pm starts...
Yeah living in the Central time zone sucks.  Was better when I was in Mountain.  Goal in life is to retire to the Pacific time zone.  MNF starts at 1730!

Definitely need to know more about this lettuce.  I'm assuming it's not any sort of demonic variety and we are, in fact, talking about regular lettuce.

Straight up lettuce. I know it sounds boring and all, but the #### is good. It will last for about 2 weeks in the fridge. Uses no pesticides or anything since he grows it hydroponically. He supplies a lot of the restaurants around here also. Has several varieties including romaine. Just some good stuff.

For lettuce.  :oldunsure:

How much for a head of romaine?

I’ve always just kinda considered lettuce to be a commodity. Definitely wouldn’t plan my day around it.
Sure. But if not for this routine you guys wouldn't get those epic saturday morning posts during the summer.

I do it for you as much as for me.

Oh no offense at all.  I just HATE when I can't hit my paces.  Of course, if I always hit my paces, I would think I was being a poosay with my goals.  Can't win either way.

I think when we push through on those days that aren't our days, it helps with our mental fortitude even if physically, I'm not sure there are gains.

Run streak is at 61 days, the longest of my life. Its in serious jeopardy as tropical storm is hitting the Cape tomorrow.  It isn't important enough for me to go out in a monsoon to run.  That being said, if there is an opening in the rain, I may try to sneak out for a few miles.

I do think the body needs a break for a day, so if I don't run, its not a big deal.
