GL GB. I hope your butt is ok.Sooooo.........been having some GI issues the last week or so. Tried to run Wednesday - had to abort once to head back to the house, but finished off a 3 mile run. Doctor visit yesterday, which leads me to a colonoscopy in a few weeks.
Feel like crap, but gonna try and squeeze out a run tonight to see how it goes. Not real optimistic. So if I disappear off of strava for awhile don't be alarmed. If you see a run on there every few days, it should be good.

i tore it up for about 4 days. just... non-stop. fatigued, achy, out of sorts. overall lasted about a week of just not feeling right at all. finally pulling out of it today.

:X A year later (11) at the same race and he ran something like 21:27 (unofficial), but finished third. Got smoked by two kids who finished 1-2 with tape leans like it was a 100m. Pretty damn exciting -- stride for stride around the last half lap. Guessing they were sub-21:00.My kid ran a chip-timed 22:52 5k on his 10th b-day this weekend.

Last time I ran on the beach I did it barefoot. An incredible run - the return 3 miles were 50 yards out in the Gulf of Mexico during low tide, running through the low waters from sand bar to sand bar, but oh, did I get nasty blisters on all of my toes from the hard sand. Worth it though!Sorry about your butthurt. Heading to Ft. Lauderdale for 3 days next week. Beach running imminent (my favorite).

I rotate different shoes for different training days.What are you guys wearing for footwear? I've always liked ASICS for running because they have good inside support but the last two pair didn't seem to last more than 3 months. Granted, I'm running a LOT more lately (averaging 20 miles a week). Here's the last pair I bought in July some time and they're already falling apart and feel loose.
It's not like the sole of the shoe is falling off or anything but just generally worn down fast (e.g. inside near heal worn through, etc).
Go to a running store and get properly fit. I'm not a shoe expert, but the inside portion of the heel wearing down in 200mi or so just doesn't sound like proper fitting shoes to me.What are you guys wearing for footwear? Hey, Ned...did you time me on my return sojourn (taking Edwin's siblings back to the car at HT) from my car back to the soccer field? Thought I conserved pretty well on that downhill, but felt pretty beat on the ensuing flat...Taper week 1 has just sucked. Each run I feel drained and just laboring along - today was no different. I ran 46mi last week which is significantly less than I had planned, so I'm hoping the extra rest pays off. We are heading to Tampa tomorrow AM for the week, so I'm hoping some extra RnR will do the trick.![]()

So with 8 tickets my odds this year are a whopping 18.4%. @SayWhat? is one of 2,481 people with one ticket in the barrel, giving him a 2.5% chance.
We are lucky out here in the West with multiple qualifying races, including a handful of 100Ks. The board takes heat for that all the time, but it's also somewhat representative of where the bigger 100K/100M races are, as they do have to be a minimum size to be considered.I'm sending positive vibes your way Duck! As for me, with a 2.5% chance I'm rightfully not overly optimistic. What kind of sucks moving forward is the limited qualifying options for WS in the Midwest. What it essentially boils down to for me is a pair of 100s.
1. Superior 100 (MN): Unvelievably fun course IMO, but not a 100 that you can fake your way through. A September race date means a core training block and a big time commitment throughout the summer. Not ideal with two children. Also, if anything goes wrong here there's really not time to squeeze in another WS qualifying race before the qualifying period closes.
2. Kettle Morraine 100 (WI): Admittedly I've never ran this race, and I've only run on the Ice Age Trail once...but nothing about this race really excites me other than it's in June and within reasonable driving distance. It's a pretty benign course (8800ft gain) and from what I recall the Ice Age Trail isn't entirely captivating. On top of that, the race website doesn't seem very organized (last race results are from 2013 for example), which has me questioning how well run the event is. That said, either it's a decent race or used by many as their WS qualifier since there's already 250+ registered.

Well the bolded was just driven home, as those registration numbers were from the link on their race page of "REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!" which I just realized was for the GD 2016 race. Almost want to eliminate this race simply because of what an abomination their website is.2. Yes, some 100K options would be solid but I'm not up in arms about why some local 100K's aren't. I get that the west has more ultra's and ultrarunnners and those races are bigger and more well publicized in part because they're WS qualifiers. What does kind of suck is that a couple solid regional 100's aren't qualifiers, such as the Blackhills 100 in South Dakota (18K+ elevation gain on an exposed course in the late June heat) or even the Zumbro 100 in the bluffs in SE Minnesota (18K+ elevation gain in what can be some wicked April weather). I am planning on running a 100M in 2017 even if I don't get into States, but if I can knock out my qualifier with Canyons 100K early in the year then I can pick any 100M I want without worrying about whether it's on their list or not. I also don't need a Hardrock qualifier next year, as Cascade Crest counts for 2 years.
Although I may be looking at points needed for 2018 UTMB when considering races for 2017......

I use to get plantar fasciiatis when running for long periods of time before wearing ASICS.

Just checked this out a bit more based on your feedback, and it looks intriguing so it's definitely an option. I'm a details geek, so having a 33 page race booklet full of anything and everything you'd want to know about the race is super helpful. If I decide to make the trek, I'll let you know.
