Indeed. Look here. I will likely do the Hot Hundred (hot, flat, very fast) and the Tannehill one (very hilly for first 20 miles, then pretty flat). There is also the All You Can Eat one up in Huntspatch.
blocked at work!

but I was able to look up the Hot Hundred. sounds good, even if I don't like the heat. A whole lot cheaper than tri's. How's the race support? (reads well on the site). All you can eat looks good.

Hunstspatch?

Swam maybe 500 yards (just piddling around, no goggles and trying to loosen up my back). Felt good. FUBAR sold me on no running but I needed to do something more so I did the elliptical for 45 minutes and sweated my ### off. Felt good and was easy enough on my back. Still tight - I need to just swim for a week and see how it feels.
there was a thing back innaday where people did running workouts in pools, with floats and fins. I did this in a group class a couple of weeks while rehabbing- great workout. you're treading water, not actually running on the bottom of the pool. not sure if it still exists- but highly recommend for joint issues where impact is a problem... not sure about backs though.
aquajogging? I used to lifeguard for these classes. Mostly 80 year old women.

what I did was all runners/triathletes rehabbing. as tough a workout as you make of it- like spinning, you're in control of how much resistance you're providing. were the 80 yos touching bottom, or in deep water?

Impressive heart rate data! :D

Good job! Your endurance is fantastic after all that Boston training!

Edit: Your splits show HR averages in the 80s and 90s. I'm not sure what's up with that.
It's % of max. So he averaged 176 for the whole run.

Good work, pbm!
Thanks guys, that is strange when I am logged in I see the avg number, but I when I view it as a guest I see the %. I think there is some rounding issues with the data. My max is 195 and my avg HR for the run was 173.

Hey, guys. Thanks for all the kind words (most of you) and support this past weekend. Everything went exactly as planned. Her photographer friend did an amazing job with the photos.

Running-wise, I did an easy 7-miler on Saturday morning, and that was about it. In truly do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I-do fashion, I'm hoping to ramp back up to 50ish miles this week, starting with an easy (and WARM) 10-miler tonight after work. Have a great week, gents!

tri-man - Congrats on yet another podium finish!

pbm - That's a solid race. Definitely faster than I could do right now. Congrats!

two different classes - water aerobics were in the shallow end, aqua jogging was in the deep end with floating belts.

Longest run for the year for me this morning. 15.75 miles/7:40 pace/132 avg. HR. I thought about signing up for a race for today but the suck index is about 140 so I thought better of it.
Juxt (and tri-man) - Either of you guys wanna come up and run the Racine Lighthouse 10-miler on June 20?
Hmmm... maybe. Tri?
It would be cool to finally meet you. I'm 99% sure I'm gonna do it. I need to start doing some shorter races to stay motivated until fall. Might even try to find one while I'm in Poland.

Tri-man - You came up and ran this with me once before, right? I'm way too young to be losing my memory... :kicksrock:

I ran one race in Racine with you ...not sure which one either. Anyway, I won't be able to make this one. I know I can't race that weekend ...I'll be one week removed from my first ultra on the 13th. I'd consider heading up to watch you and Juxt, but I'm having a lot of weekends away from now until mid-July and need to get some projects done at home. I saw one of the other team relay guys up in Michigan this past weekend. He said our slowest runners for the race on the 13th are 10:00/mile guys, so my ultra will definitely start at an easy pace for me over the first five miles (before they turn around). The course appears to be single track trail on rolling terrain, so put that all together and I won't be challenging Hang 10's 4:34. Yet.

What's the plan - run till I puke?

Don't plan a damn thing. Ask yourself at each mile marker one question "can I run harder?" If you even remotely consider answering yes, then pick it up.

Oh and Team Garmin - consider that a challenge. Your PRs are going down. :boxing:

How many of you guys are on Strava? What are the advantages to using it?
:hey:

I use it as my workout journal - it does a good job now of aggregating your workouts. For running it gives basic stats, mapping, and analysis and such. Much like Garmin Connect. For running I think they're about equal. For cycling Strava is miles ahead with their segments and how that community has grown there.

I agree - I don't see any benefits of one or the other. I'm only on there because when the TomTom Runner Cardio first came out, their website sucked balls. The watch software had an option to automatically upload to Strava which was light years ahead of the TomTom site (at the time). TomTom has made a lot of improvements, but I'm used to Strava so I've stuck with it.

My only nitpick is the mileage doesn't exactly match between my watch and Strava. Strava is always a hair short.

Huntspatch = Huntsville.

Hot Hundred could be brutal or not. The year I did it it was overcast and pretty nice. Last year I did 70 and it got hot towards the end, but really not awful. I have found the support on all these to be great - lots of stops stocked with drinks/food/etc. SAG wagons float around for any real troubles.

Tannehill - Strava from 2012 and the site.

All you can eat.

My running playlists vary based on the run. Long runs are more mellow/chill, lately I start with Wilco's One Sunday Morning, a nice 12 minute groove that puts me in a happy place while I settle into a rhythm.

For 5Ks I'll pick a half dozen up tempo songs with whatever my favorite is at the time scheduled to start around the 20 min mark.

LSD = podcasts for the first half or more, then music.

Sooo.....just signed up for the 5k I was talking about last week. Next Monday morning.

What's the plan - run till I puke?
Run the first mile like it's a one mile race and then just try to hang on the best you can. This will hurt like a mutha####er but it's probably the best strategy for a noob 5ker. Reason being, many times people start to conservatively and in a race a short as 5k, you never/wont make up the wasted time later in the race. So you bank a little time and do your best to not give too back after.

Awesome, thanks. Should be fun.

Just looked at the course. It's actually part of the first HM course I ran in the spring. It starts at that uphill point that has kicked my #### the last two years.

So I'm gonna make that hill my bit.ch, since the rest of the course is downhill. :headbang:

Really looking forward to hearing the report. Go get em, tiger. :boxing:

Speaking of racing, I'm running a 10K this weekend. Training has been on a solid uptick lately but I'm still probably a couple months of away from sub 40 shape. If the suck index isn't too sucky, I'm thinking around 41:30 would be a solid time to shoot for.

yep

but (and I really can't over-emphasize this) WARM UP BEFORE THE RACE

starting off hard without properly warming up is a recipe for a cramp. or pulling something.

1 to 2 mile warmup with some light stretching and then 4 or 5 strides. Then give yourself around 5-10 minutes or so to let your heart rate come down.

Oh, also...start from the front.
