Ran a 10k - Official Thread (4 Viewers)

Calgary weather can eat it.

My 15K trail race I was supposed to run on Saturday just got canceled (snow).

Was looking forward to that.  Now I have to go run on streets again.

Just over three weeks left in this training.  Then I'm released!

That sucks. Sorry to hear.

My run streak may die at 41 days. Htf does juxt do this! Between work, weather, and track it's looking like Friday evening is the only option and I may be out of fuel by then. I'm at peace with it no matter how tomorrow shakes out.

You guys are machines.  I do 8 days and feel like that's an achievement.  Take a well-earned break if circumstances aren't working for you!

Ran for the first time in a week.  Damn.  That hurt.

Originally was thinking I would go do 6 with 4 at MP.  I got out there and knew that wasn't going to work.  Muscles felt tight all around so I just made it all easy.  The joints now are all cranky.  Getting old stinks.

Guessing it will come back quickly, but I also realize how quickly it can be lost if you don't stick with it consistently.

You took a week off and you're complaining about how much it hurts to return?  :finger:

The weather will be similar to Carmel... hopefully just a light rain and it very possibly may not do anything during the race, we will see.

I am super stoked right now. I have been looking over the standings from last year's race and then going over my race plan in my head. Trying to mentally prepare to really push myself tomorrow. It's going to be spectacular - either a spectacular finish or a spectacular failure. I'm not sure which yet but we will see. Just hope I can "leave it all out there" and see how it turns out.

Looking back over the last several years, 1000th place finished in about 1:41 +/-. Being in the top 1000 would be very cool, IMO.

I wasn't looking too closely at the weather map last night, but it sure looked like this system coming through is missing mid-Indiana.  Maybe light rain on the edges?

Probably still gonna sign up for Carmel tomorrow, but I just remembered now that I'm planning to coordinate my annual work trip to Atlanta next February so I can be there for the Olympic Marathon Trials on February 29.  The next day, March 1, is the Publix Atlanta Marathon, and I'm inclined to do something while I'm there.  Carmel isn't until April 4 next year, and the Atlanta course is hilly AF, so maybe I'll do the half in Atlanta and the full in Carmel.

Of course this all depends if I get into London next year and if I decide to do Boston, among a host of other things...

The awesome part is I don't really need one.  At this point I'd rather the streak die because my body taps out.  But I'm also not going to foot shuffle for 30 minutes at 8:30 pm just to keep it going.  We'll see if I find a gap before then...

In thinking about what you have endured, my comment is definitely d!ckish.  Didn't mean it like that.

But I don't like feeling like I ran 20 miles when all I ran is 6 easy.

Hmmmmm.  April 4 is impossible for me.  I need to work that day and that weekend.  So I'm definitely out for Carmel next year.  😞

@pbm107 , the race calendar has you racing Broad Street but didn't you decide to skip it this year?
I thought I had to skip it, but my schedule opened up for the day.  I am sure things will change once I get to the starting line but this will be more of social event than a goal race (I'll get to see some of my old training partners).  This spring has been busier than ever with the kids sports and family obligations.  Tomorrow is my son's first communion, and my wife invited so many more people than I anticipated for the party.  I don't think I will be able to survive it without a couple drinks.

Good luck @The Iguana and @SFBayDuck.

And lots of gels.

100km = 62mi.  Going to need a backpack for 62 gels, I think.
Funny you guys say that, because it's funny, but also because this race isn't supplying gels or blocks or anything like that.  Not sure if it's the Forest Service or Golden Gate National Rec Area, but at least one of the permitting agencies won't allow them for fear of litter.  And as my race nutrition since AC100 last summer has been to rely on gels and sports drink pretty much exclusively, it looks like I will be carrying a whole bunch of them.

We do have a couple of drop bag options, so I'll probably throw a bunch in some gallon ziplocs and use those as drop bags.  Otherwise I would need to carry at least 20 with me.

Headed to pick up my bib this afternoon.  It doesn't look like there is any live tracking, and there isn't even cel service at the start/finish, which is about an hour drive from my house.  If all goes well I'll be finished by about 8:00 tomorrow night (5:00 AM start), hang out for a bit at the finish for some food and drink, and then head home.  The weather looks like it should be pretty much perfect, low of 46/high of 59, cloudy and probably some fog in the Marin Headlands.

Got out for a quick one this morning to shake the legs out.  Nothing left to do now but get some.

Couple of thoughts this week.

- I’m tired of running in the rain mist etc...

-feel like those powerline runs in the sand are gonna make me stronger. Felt that way last night anyway.

-Me putting off writing my story to publicize my run and raise money for ALS in my Pops memory isn’t doing me any favors. Drinking more beers as of late and that’s likely the reason.

-originally I was gonna do a 10k this weekend and another in a month... going to hangout with friends who live a couple of hours away, need a boys weekend

-no more carrots and hummus, that was a recipe for elation for finding a wooded lot to drop anchor.

I'm waiting for a few more to jump in on my MCM fundraiser.  Then they're (we're) all yours!!
