So any of these watches have the capability to hook to Spotify without having your phone on you?
"Spotify is currently available on the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus series, Forerunner 645 Music, the D2 Delta series, and the VivoActive 3 Music watch. We plan to roll out to more models in the future"

Not surprised on the Boston post, expect a couple minutes at least. I want to see how close I can get in this age band for sure but it is more the challenge of the standard than running it for me. Hopefully I earn the choice someday.
Same. The news isn’t going to stop me from trying. I think some dreams and goals are better left unaccomplished for a while. As crazy as that sounds, the motivation to accomplish that goal continues to build. Once the goal is accomplished, then what? So I’ll keep dreaming of that day I cross the line at a marathon and it reads 2:5x:xx. It’s what gets me through some longs runs and low points.

I have the Garmin VivoActive 3 with Music. I know there is a music app or 2 you can download and use to download music so as to not have to do that. So far, I have just uploaded music from my itunes to the watch, which is what I then listen to when I run.

Edit to add... yes, I can actually download spotify now for it. Before it was just "deezer" but was just pulling up the app to see which service it was and found that spotify is now also an option!

I'll do a race report later, but everything came together for me.  After not having a single training road mile under 10 minutes all year until the Friday before the race, I went sub 10 average for the race.  Was targeting 2:20 for a PR.  Plan was to post a couple of miles in the low 10s, string together some 10:30-10:45 miles, and then hold on.  Ended up getting stronger as the event unfolded and 2:15 was in play.  It only got better from there and 2:10 was the outcome.  I also won my age group.

May have set a world record too.

Well la di da I'm such a trail bad-### so I'll just sign up for one of them pesky road half marathons and beat my PR by 10 minutes and oh by the way just go ahead and win my age group.....

do those watches work for running apps, or do you need a phone for the gps to work.  Would love not to bring my phone, and still have music and gps for running apps.

Congrats BnB, World Champ in your age group.

They typically have GPS.

You can get everything - gps, music, HR monitor - all built into the watch so you don't have to take a phone at all - which is totally the way to go, IMO.

I must have one of these. Looks like I need about a million dollars.
If you don't catch it on sale, you can get the Garmin vivoactive 3 with music for $249. They seem to have it on sale relatively often for about $200. Google search shows some places selling it for that or less, but several are listed as "refurbished" and such.

Just saw that. Someone here posted a link to some insurance portal thingy a few months ago, because I think I can get a discount through my wife's insurance.

Tried to find it earlier. So whoever posted that before, please do again if you can. Thanks.

A world record in BMFery, fer sure.   :pickle:

Just stopping by to say that this morning I ran a segment called "The Dump Mile" and there was nothing of the sort.  Didn't have to bio even once.  :towelwave:

During my run this morning, some idiot threw a lit cigarette at me. What kind of human being does something like that?
One that's on the phone, playing with their GPS, or something else distracting that didn't see you.

Or Florida Man. Youse guys have a lot of those.

This popped up from a Boston Marathon post on FB:

"Later this week, the Boston Athletic Association will begin distributing notices of acceptance and non-acceptance for the 2020 Boston Marathon. Due to field size limitations, we are unable to accept all entries."

Oh, snap!  Even after tightening down the time requirements, they're still dealing with field size limitations?
I’m sitting here at -3:19 under the BQ standard.  Waiting to find out if it’s enough.

i did this BQ in Boston last year when it got real warm ( @gruecd can testify).

i could have run another marathon and got in but I decided to roll the dice with this time.  We will see if it’s enough. 🙏

@gruecd says you'll be fine.

Really disappointed with Garmin.  I have the fenix 5 plus, which has been giving me fits with a few things.  The altimeter is way off (elevation gains are like 10x more than they really are), wifi and bluetooth connectivity is spotty, etc.  I put in a support request and they said to do a hard reset and if that doesn't work (I already did that to no avail), I need to send it in for repair.  Since it's more than a year old, it's out of warranty and they charge a flat fix rate of $160 plus tax.

#### that noise, man.  For such an expensive piece of equipment, I expect better.
So I sent them a I'm really disappointed email after this post.  I told them I'll deal with the bugs vs spending another $160 on a device that's 2 months out of warranty.

Lo and behold I got this from them today:

As a 1 time courtesy, I have received authorization to exchange your watch.  Please note that any future out of warranty needs will incur a cost.

I need to call in about mine... not sure if they will do anything or not... while umpiring a baseball game a couple weeks ago, I took a foul ball off the wrist and have 2 little places on the screen that are messed up. doesn't stop it from working correctly but is a huge PITA when the display is right on one/both of those spots.

On the bad news front, I am going to have to bail on Rehoboth.  My son is in an MLS academy league and has a game at 11 against Philly Union.  I contemplated for a while trying to make both, but it just won't work.  Half marathons will always be there, these times watching my son are pure gold that I refuse to miss out on.

I have a 10 miler on the schedule for 10/27 - I still plan on running that one and will make that my main focus now.  I'll try to find other races to squeeze in afterwards.

I'm curious how they respond.
