Ran a 10k - Official Thread (2 Viewers)

Have I told you guys lately how much I love and appreciate you? Between a couple medical events happening recently to people I know, including my mom I was thinking about that when out on my run just a bit ago and the roads seemed to get a little dusty. It was a friend of mine that talked me into running the HM last year, but if not for this place, I am 100% sure that would not have turned into the life altering event that it has been so far.

My wife and I had our own bad news at checkups a little before that - nothing dire and mostly things we knew, but things needed to change. We had started making changes in spring/early summer of 2018, but it's really been a new life for both of us over the last 15 months-ish. So, thanks for all you do. This thread rocks!

Had to end the sappy post and start a new one. What I planned to post and then went deeper with it, is that you guys are driving to go further. Really running with no purpose other than to just add miles and have fun. @gianmarco and @AAABatteries with their "up yours" posts have me adding an extra mile or 2 to many of my runs. With no plan, I just set a goal during the day and then I leave and run. Tonight I was going to do about 6 when I left the house but at one intersection I turned left instead of right at one point and did a little over 8 instead.

Marine Corp race (17.75k) that guarantees finishers a MCM entry was today.  Not really thinking MCM is in my fall plans as I’m leaning Richmond in Nov. Anyway, past few years race filled in under 10 mins and I forgot about it this year. Saw a FB message it was still open and boom I’m in. Great race through the woods in Quantico. Consider me stoked and surprised.

Also, that masseuse’s thumbs just did some crazy ####. I’m still seeing spots.

Yanmarco - you are gonna crush that marathon if you continue on this path.

Don’t forget about you in this whole process. Your wife is still gonna smoke yer ###, but don’t discount the work you are putting in.

Am I the only one flying in?

Can I get details on when I should fly in (fly into STL?)?  Do I need to get a car or will someone pick me up?  What about flying out on Sunday.....should I fly out mid morning?  I'll start watching the flights for a good deal.
I'm guessing @Zasada will be flying provided he's in. I'm guessing @gruecd and @tri-man 47 will drive down and @The Iguana will drive over as well.

Yes, fly into STL. No, you don't need a car, we will get you here. The race is Saturday morning. All of you are free to come in on Thursday if you'd like. Everyone took off on Sunday to go back home this past relay. You can fly out whenever, no need to rush out in the morning.

We are pretty easy, school will already be out, so no obligations on my end. If anyone wants to stay even longer and make a trip of it, let me know.

Just registered.  Same questions as @SteelCurtain as I'll be flying in.

In related news, I'll be flying from DFW and not Calgary.  Life change alert!  I took a job in Dallas so I'll have to get used to running in the heat (e.g. anything above 10C/50F).

Weekends will still be in Calgary so I'll be able to get my mountain fix.  But weekdays I'll be running in the metroplex...

I'd imagine you would want to fly to STL. I will be driving over, only a couple hours for me, and would be happy to pick you up depending on timing.

Room for 5 to stay here. You guys are all welcome. 2 would have to share 1 room with a couple of twin beds.

Of note, we have a couple animals. And 2 dogs too.

ETA -- Bring your own trees.

Congrats on the new job! Looking at average temps, Dallas seems OK until May.

BUT, Dallas is effing FLAT. And hot. Enjoy?

Thanks.  And yeah, I did a search for the nearest hills of consequence to Dallas, and they are very, very far away.

But it's not like I run hills through the week in Calgary, either.  No time to get to the mountains.  So I'll probably have only a little less elevation gain by running streets in Dallas through the week, and trails in Calgary on the weekends.

The heat will be the hardest thing to get used to.  This time of year in DFW, early morning temps are around 40F, so not an issue there.  But in the summer, morning temps will be around what they are during the day in other parts of the country.  It's not the end of the world, though.  I ran in DC in June, and that was a humid swampy sweatfest.  But still worthwhile.

I currently have a 1 bedroom condo thing booked about 1.5 miles from the cross country course. Mrs. Iggy may or may not be coming with me but if she does, she will want some place to hang out for at least part of the day. I can cancel it if not needed. But would also be a great way to stage camp stuff for the day too.

####.

I thought we were in good shape in case a snowstorm broke out during the relay with you on the team, but now.....?

Up to you but not necessary. And FWIW, I live like 35-40 minutes away from there.

I'm aware! [/stravastalker]

If my wife decides not to come or has schedule conflicts, I can cancel and bring an air mattress with me instead of forcing a double up. Unless someone just wants to spoon with me.

I'm registered...though I think I injured my finger scrolling back to my year of birth.

@SteelCurtain, you could always fly into Chicago and have @Brony drive you down.

@Zasada, congrats on the new gig!  What a big change, though.  Remember that you can't leave Calgary until a few of us are able to swing by over the next couple/few years.

And @gianmarco, speaking of your new place, has the neighbor started tear-down and construction yet?

Well, team is full. All 6 officially signed up.

And, you don't need an air mattress or to double up. There's room for all 5 of you. I still have my own room, for now. If the Mrs. is coming, then that's up to you what you want to do. 3 of the rooms have queens so she's welcome if you guys want.

Framing just about done and roof going up soon. I'm guessing it'll be mostly done by the time you guys come.

Welcome to my world. You’ll be wearing gloves in the 50s in no time.

Congrats!  I hope they got you swimming in money like Scrooge McDuck!

I'm on pace for over 2200

But seriously, last January I ran 80 miles all month. I'm currently over 50 after 8 days.
Please don't drown this weekend. One of our locals likes out chances of being just outside of this storm system for a while Saturday afternoon. If my model is right we should be in the mid 60's as that swath of rain stays just west of the city for several hours Saturday. If my model is wrong I'm deactivating all social media this weekend and I'll see you all Monday.

We're supposed to get a bunch of snow starting Friday night and continuing straight through into Saturday night.  Happy birthday to me...

Yeah, the back side of this thing looks nasty. As long as gian and iggy avoid flooding at least the bullseye that's cutting through them will come with mild temp's. So when it's done it's just done; not with snow and ice left behind. Maybe they'll even get window's to go outside too. Looks like you and chef are not going to be so lucky - the Chicago guys are right on the line, so who knows what they'll get.

I thought we weren't getting rain until later today but it's already raining a little.  Unfortunately, it's also 20 mph winds with higher gusts.  That's what sucks.  Thankfully it's in the 50's so it doesn't feel bad at all.  I'll get 3-4 recovery miles in today and be thankful.

Tomorrow was going to be thunderstorms but now just looking like more rain.  We do have a flash flood warning so we'll see just how much.  Glad I got my work in already this week.

5-7" of snow on Saturday.

I'll run outside.

(up yours gian. #DBAP)

Really wanting to go run some trails Saturday but we will see. Suppose to be 60 but falling all day and raining. Could still be fun on the trails but may just be roads near home.
