 5) walking the dog and/or solo exercise "à proximité du domicile".  Now I'm not sure what in proximity of my home actually means in terms of distance but we'll see how this goes.
My sense is that they wouldn't want you traveling to another region to run.  I.e., don't head down to infested Spain for the weekend and bring the virus back with you to France.  I can't imagine that they're considering, for example, 5 miles vs. 10 miles from home ...more like, don't take a day-trip to go run in the mountains or along the coast.

As we promised, our E3 team has exhausted all options, and due to the COVID-19 developments it has been determined that it is in the best interest of the running community to cancel Canyons Endurance Runs 2020. We are aware of how disappointing this news is as you have been working hard to qualify for WSER, but your safety, health and the health the greater community are our highest priority at this time.
We will continue to coordinate with WSER to be sure to keep that dream alive.  When we have more information we will pass it along.
Thanks to each of you for your patience and understanding in this most difficult time. The situation is very fluid and unpredictable, therefore, attempting to reschedule the event is not a viable option. Not only do we not want to affect other races that are scheduled for the season, but if the current conditions continue as they have, it would be necessary to cancel again. In fairness to all, and so you can attempt to plan the rest of your calendar, Canyons will not return until 2021.
It is necessary for us to honor our refund policy and we apologize for the burden it may present. We understand it maybe a hardship, but we would prefer to continue to bring you these epic events, so refunds, rollovers or credits would cripple our ability to do so.
We have been gutted to come to this decision but we know it is the right one. Stay safe, stay home, stop the spread!
Thank you,
E3 Team the rest of your calendar, Canyons will not return until 2021....

Oh, the working out part - that is a problem for me - without a race to prep for it is easier for me to make excuses. I'm doing this really for the life change I've experienced as the true, long range goal. But without a short term goal, it becomes easier to lose focus on the big picture, IMO. Right now, I'm trying to keep the mindset that the races I have on the schedule will happen and, if/when they don't, I'll just have to go out and simulate them or something. Right not holding onto the relay race is more a "sanity thing" - holding on to that carrot is more about not getting too distressed over this whole mess or something.

That said, the last few days have just been walks with the dog as I let my ankle heal - there's still some swelling and tightness from the weekend. It's not terrible and I'll get out for an easy run, probably tomorrow.
I've noticed. You're not the only one though. It's quite common. It's led to my not so subtle mentions of the offseason lately. The offseason isn't just about rest. Sure, a component of it is, but not necessarily a large part - the amount of rest just depends on how long that particular offseason lasts and where that person is mentally and physically at the time they enter the offseason. How each person figures out how to get the most out of that offseason is on themselves. There is no training schedule to use as a guide though.

Finding it hard to run with cold weather, cancelled races and working 14 hour days...6-7 days per week.

Hoping to get out there tonight once I get home.

Keep trying to stay positive guys.  Hopefully this passes sometime soon.

How each person should approach this is variable. As @ChiefD correctly eluded to about me a long time ago - I like involving myself in the process. No matter what is actually happening I am going to be doing some form of training. Sure, some sort of short term objective to work towards is necessary, but I am always going to be doing something. Whenever my mid-May race gets cancelled I'll use the information available to me at that time to make the best possible decision then audible my plan with that target in mind. I know new information later may change that plan too - but I'm gonna keep going anyway and adjusting as change occurs.

That isn't the case with others though. Without that carrot dangling out in front others are more likely to skip a workout, then two, then the domino effect. I can't wrap my head around that sorta mindset - I've tried, but I can't. I just know that it exists. I think those that are susceptible to that must self assess now and game plan accordingly. I don't know what that game plan is, but I am confident ignoring it will have negative consequences later.
Is this one of those not-so-subtle mentions for me to get back out there?

I'll be back out later today or tomorrow. Just got back from vacation, once they canceled my race I just decided to enjoy the vacation and not take extra time away from the family.

So now - the offseason. To be honest, I don't know what my next race will be or when. Right now I am thinking of not racing again until spring of 2021, when I'll sign up for the same half I usually do. Until then - 100% MAF.

My plan is to commit to a 140HR and give it the time it needs. Try and do 30-40 miles a week, but not sure about that yet. Just gonna run and see what happens.

Also, thanks again to @gianmarco for the invite to that half in St. Louis.

I was really fortunate to at least get that race day experience this season, and that is a blessing in light of what is going on. I am a lucky human being.

I'm just seriously bummed for all you guys with the cancellations and such. It just sucks big time.

virtual relay race? I'm in! that would be kind of fun and give us something to do/look forward to! make the fast guys the captains and form up teams - then people record their piece on strava and add them up for the win!

I like it!  Set a date (several weeks from now as an impetus for training?), see who wants to be "in," then let a couple of the guys pick teams.  The fun thought is having gruec vs. Juxt as team captains ...

This sounds great but if it is going to happen anytime soon, I don't think I'll be able to participate.  I am feeling much better since getting sick, but I think I need to be careful to not overdo it the next few weeks. Yesterday's 6 miler quickly became a 4 miler with a 2 mile walk home as I was working too hard at an easy pace.  I am hoping to get in 4 after I am done my day working from home.

Selfishly hoping my knee surgery goes as planned the 26th. Realize it’s insignificant atm, but if I get it next week, running can resume around the middle of April. If it gets pushed back to July or August, I may go crazy without running during months of quarantine. Plus this virtual 10K relay sounds awesome, I’d love to participate!

As long as I have no coordinating logistics responsibilities, in.

I"m in for a online relay.  I think 10K is a good distance to include everyone.

I think it would be fun to do this.  Would @pbm107 be drafted first round or would he slide a bit since he is still recovering?  Lots of interesting choices!

I was wondering more if his propensity for cheating helps or hurts his draft stock!

I went out for a quick one this afternoon, 7km. Was too nice outside not too. Super eerie with barely any cars on people. They raised the fine for not being authorized to be out to €135... Not sure that's worth a trip out cycling.

If the draft is televised or publicized in any way ala the NBA All Star game, I’m out.  :scared:

My HM first weekend of May is officially off. Didn't read it super close but something about running "virtually" to get your shirt and medal and then details later about possibly rolling over or something like that.

Oh, man.  A virtual 10k would definitely be the honeypot to get me to join Team FFA on Strava.  So everyone would run a 10K course of their own choosing and upload it?

Not like I'm going to have much else to do.  Border just got (effectively) closed to Canada, so no wifey and no mountains for me for quite some time.  :sadbanana:

Only for non-essential travel. I’m sure they’ll understand when you tell them you can’t possibly run in Texas. It rains down there! BTW, I’m in too. Surgery or not.

It's not the "essential" part that will keep me from going back ("Mr. Customs Officer, have you tried running streets for two weeks consecutively?!?!?!").  It's the fact that I'm about to cancel all of my airline's flights to Canada based on the lack of demand, because of only "essential" travelers being able to cross.  And all the other airlines will do the same.

I think this is an insult.

I also don't know what it means.
I like to think of it as friendly, over-exaggerated ribbing.

ETA: If JShare is limited to a ..slow.. pace due to his knee, we'd need another runner of similar speed to keep things even.  I suppose if we want another banged up runner, then we should enlist @belljr.

Let's get a date on the books.  I need something to get me back running.  I propose Sunday March 29.  Thoughts?

Once the date is set, we can give people a chance to declare themselves eligible.  Identify captains...then get the draft going.

As my wife said to me on our first date, easy there, Speedy Gonzalez.  Part of the goal is to motivate folks to train for a while while all the races are cancelled.  Plus, we don't know if the StL relay will be cancelled yet or not.  I was thinking more like Memorial weekend.

Ok...wha?

What's all this then?

Could be a monthly thing too, depending on whatever the hell it is you guys are talking about

Is there anyway I can strong arm you guys into a weekday? Trying to keep long runs on weekends. If I am unsuccessful can I suggest Sat over Sun?

Lol.  I did get a little excited.

i like the Memorial Day weekend idea.  Then we will he accountable to our teammates.

Just FYI - if my marathon does not get cancelled then I am questionable for the virtual race, so that will need baked into my draft day price.

Or we could pick a Thursday through Sunday timeframe.  Ppl could choose when they run it based on family, weather, work, Etc.

could even attempt it multiple times during that period if one wanted.

A multi-day set-up seems fine to me.  And that'd be fun, getting some early returns and then waiting for the weekend runners (adding some pressure to those who wait).  We could shoot for, say, May 21 (Th) - May 25 (M, Memorial Day).

And round it to a 6 mile race?  Easier to catch a mile beep than be watching the climb to .2.

Agreed, that could create some extra drama.

I may be limited, but aside from my knee (and cardiovascular system), this may be the best shape I’ve been in for a long time. I have been hitting the weights hard (now body weight), eating clean, and my 6 friends that once lived on my stomach are all back. This 7th round sleeper may turn some heads with a sub 50 min 10K. Please pick me, someone.
