That's the worst part. It's not an enjoyable run when your in his position analyzing non stop.

I'll say this, guys: My 16 overnight miles on single track trail through steep mountains and valleys was one of my toughest challenges ever. Physically tough, sure. Well trained (Duck) or not (me), those are still hard miles. But also, then, the mental challenge of staying alert and focused to avoid a dangerous misstep through the middle of the night. Not to mention the intense time pressure to keep pushing ...keep pushing.
But Duck did this after 62 miles of elevation, snow, shoe-sucking mud, and dangerous heat ...and before a 22 mile finish!!!
It is truly beyond comprehension. In the pre-race meeting, they said 25 countries and 37 states were represented. They introduced a couple dozen of the top male and female competitors, and it was a "who's who" of the ultra world (literally).
Duck is holding is own in the pinnacle event of his sport. He has shown us what toughness and courage look like. It's been such an honor to share this with him.
Heading now to the track to watch finishers!

Never thought I'd be refreshing a message board page to see how some guy I've never met before is doing on a run. I don't even know what the Western States Run is. However, I now have perspective on the difficulty of what he is doing. The mental toughness on Duck has to be off the charts. Good luck and keep going. You got this!

From the pacer- 2 hours to go; 9 miles left. But I'm not confident of the accuracy of that.
Pointed rocks is 3.6 miles up the road. 18:12 pace needed from here on in. Should be a 9:12 arrival at the latest. Basically he's already arrived and we're waiting on the results lag.
Comps with other runners would have him arriving at 9:14 am.

I know you don't get an "official" finish time, but do they still let you cross the finish line if you don't make the 30-hour cut-off?
I believe so. 11 am cutoff for the last three AS.
I think he's staring at a 29:50, although he's dead on the 30 hour finish chart. Big downhill followed by a 700 foot climb in the next section.

I'm positioned on the street, 3 minutes from the finish line (with watch synched to the clock). Look for a post in about 60-65 minutes. It's moving. ?
It will be sooner. I think he'll hit Pointed Rocks at 10:30 am which will put him by you around 10:45-10:46.
