Ran a 10k - Official Thread (15 Viewers)

Juxt: 108 lbs

Grue: 208 lbs
Speaking of that, this work from home thing has been good for me in that regard. Less eating out and more disciplined at home meals means I've been dropping some pounds despite a little sketchy workout pattern and a couple of minor setbacks. I foresee a day in the not too distant future when I could be under 190.

@gruecd

40/20/55  a couple of dogs ran up on me as i hit the first 40.  i stopped, to make sure they weren't going to eat me.  turns out, it was 2 rat dogs.  i immediately did the 20, after narrowly averting death. .  did the 55 about a minute later.

Since I know this thread loves a good poop story and I usually have little to offer there... I was wrestling with my 20 lb dog tonight and my wedding ring disappeared somehow in the middle of that. Details to follow
You lost your wedding ring in your dog’s ###?

/thread.

It’s over boys.

**ALERTS**

I couldn't take it any more. It's Sunday and I didn't want to risk more in busier areas, but I went for my usual weekday 4m run today. Outside, and everything.

I'm a mess. Can't say it felt good- because after 2 weeks essentially entirely indoors where the most calories I was losing while chewing food, my lungs/cardio system felt like ###. So it didn't feel good at all...but dammit, it felt good

1- 8:10

2- 7:20 (wind-aided)

3- 7:49

4- 7:50

Days like today are why we run (although still not a trail). Simply glorious, mid-high 60s, not too humid (71%), rained last night so the air felt great.  Nice and easy, stayed in z2 without really trying to (aHR 139), consistent, easy pace.

Summer is coming, but I'll take as many days like this as I can get.

Glad you got out there. Be safe!

Glad you got out there. Be safe!
It's mid 40s and drizzly this morning, so I knew most of the casual walkers wouldn't be out at 9am.

My route goes 1/2m down Houston St to the river, then down the east rice park to the Manhattan Bridge, which is a perfect 2m out and back.

I ran in the bike lane/street (swore I'd never do this) to avoid any pedestrians and wore a surgical (not n95) mask under my chin that I'd throw over my mouth anytime I passed by people on the off chance any of us sneezed, coughed, whatever...about 20-30 total. We all avoided eachother by more than 6'.

I'll try to get some more in in the mornings before "work". But play it by ear based on what I see out there. With the weather getting better, it's unavoidable that the fair-weather exercise people will start heading outdoors again.

And it's a bit confusing in terms of mixed messages...were being told to get out and exercise, but in a city this dense, its hard to maintain safe distances out there. We don't exactly have idyllic quiet paths.

Apparently JAA got put in timeout.

I'll be the sacrifice I guess.  No way in hell would I keep up with the two captains in a real race.  On foot.

I was just about to head out in the same before the winds really start to whip as a cold front approaches early afternoon but the line of storms they said may develop. Welp. Hoping this is just a 20 minute delay. Just glad I checked radar ok ne more time before heading out.

I have no clue what any of this means.

Sorry, shoulda posted the full post.

Apparently I am too argumentative, so I am on a FBG TO.  However, the official unofficial seedings must go on.

!! ATTENTION !!

The official unofficial seeding qualifiers have concluded and are noted below.  For every FBG Strava participant I took the best 400m time from each of your runs on March 27.  If you did not have a specific .25 mile time, I took your best mile and estimated from there (included GAP times).  For those who DNP, I placed you in order of how I think you would have finished.  These times will be used to seed you in the official unofficial qualifiers.  There is no additional information to provide at this time.

Thank you,
Management

Yup.  Because there's no way I could go H2H with @pbm107 in anything but a pooping contest.  Dude could outrun me even at the depths of his respiratory ailment of a week or two ago...
I don’t know about that, you’re still very early on in your running journey and I think you’re going to surprise yourself. You’re showing that you have a good amount of talent and more importantly dedication to this hobby.

Tell your friend he's high.

The official unofficial seeding qualifiers will be tomorrow.  For every FBG Strava participant I will be taking the best 400m time from each of your runs tomorrow.  If you do not have a specific .25 mile time, I will be taking your best mile and estimating from there.  If you choose to not run tomorrow, you will be given a DNP.  These times will be used to seed you in the official unofficial qualifiers.  There is no additional information to provide at this time.

I think JAA and I were the only ones who read and followed instructions from management.

I read them, but:

  1. It was kind of short notice
  2. It was sort of like getting an e-mail from a random colleague asking for your accomplishments.  It's confusing and odd and you are wondering if it is actually endorsed by management or if it's something that even if you do it nothing will happen.

+1

I'm trying to figure out how I got ranked where I did and also trying to figure out how getting ranked where I did I somehow would have to go up against one of the fastest guys in here.  😂
🤷‍♂️ The rules were clear I thought. But I still don't know the point of the exercise.

1. Loose hips sink slips.

2. Hips don't lie.

55 push ups

immediately ran my fledging 9.0 mile

immediately did 50 more(last 10 were a serious struggle)

hiked another couple miles

50

so 55/50/50

I see @gruecd was able to convince his wife to go for a drive today.
Yep. My legs were shot after my hilly 15 yesterday. I just wanted some active recovery, and I had zero desire to battle that wind.

Plus it was good for her to get out of the house for a few minutes to drive me. Win/win.

When is the 50 miler?
I've done a 50 miler once. I was actually thinking about it on my run yesterday. It was a 3 day hiking trip on this. The thought of running that basically nonstop, even if walking at times, just seems nuts - and it's nothing compared to your elevation changes, I'm sure.

Keep the shots coming.  More motivation for training runs.  I’m taking screen shots of this ####, printing them and plastering them all over my house.  This must have been how Jordan felt when the Blazers picked Sam Bowie......

edit to add:  I have no idea what I was supposed to do on Strava recently.  All focus on mid-April.

When we all stay at @JAA's place near Hopkinton for the 2021 BM, we're goin' to need a JAA-English translation booklet.
Question on Boston. Does anyone think that due to spring marathons being delayed until Fall that Boston registration for 2021 will be pushed back from the Monday after labor day?

Now Paris Marathon in October is my new target race for this year and thinking I have a shot at 2021 Boston if they were to push registration back by six weeks....

I don't think Boston even knows what Boston is going to do for 2021.

I think there's a decent chance of that.  I also think that the number of available spots for next year will be less than normal, because I suspect they'll give this year's registrants the option of deferring to next year.

I have doubts that they'd push it back that much ....it changes the cycle for many other qualifying marathons.  I'd figured they rescheduled Boston 2020 to September 14 to, in part, allow them to keep 2021 registration on a rather consistent schedule.
