@SteelCurtain, you figuring that after your school sees the key, but disappointing, May 1st numbers on new freshmen commitments, you'll have plenty of free time to train?
My rough math during a really boring conference call says that Team Grue’s average time would be 45:31 and Team Juxt’s would be 45:52.   Based on times submitted so far.

Note that I’m really bored, multitasking by listening to this horrific conference call, playing a crappy game on my phone, and doing this math on the side.

just put them all into excel, I got 45:31 for team grue and 45:18 for team juxt. I like those numbers better! that's a difference of 161 seconds total.

I tried this with Strava stalking a few weeks back, going by estimated bests and some guesses, assuming everyone ran:

5K : TG - 20:37, TJ - 20:41

10K : TG - 43:38, TJ - 44:06

1M : TG - 6:05, TJ - 6:13

 
I was planning to run 26.2 today for [Boston] Marathon Monday, but my left hamstring was still noticeably sore from the 5K last week, and I started getting a blister on my left big toe, so I just finished my 12th mile and pulled the plug.  I never get blisters until sometimes really late in marathons.  Could the blister be related to the tight hamstring somehow?  Maybe subconscious changes in my stride/footstrike to accommodate?

It’s related to the weight that was on your shoulders from all the extra 5K pressure.

So this is the second race in a week you haven't completed the prescribed distance?

It could be a subconscious adjustment today, but possibly it was from running the very hard (and successful!) downhill'ish 5K. That continued descent at fast pace was probably driving your feet forward the entire time, and that could have pressured the toes, which manifested itself on a long run today.

Well then what in the holy hell are we doing?  That’s it, I’m proposing the 10K gets dropped to a 2.5K.  Makes sense on every level.

Given the way I felt on my walk yesterday and the way I felt running tonight, the idea that I might have tried to run a fast 5k yesterday is funny beyond belief... Running about 6.6 tonight made the idea of running a fast 10k seem like a huge joke. Glad I have time to do some work between now and then.

It’s a really tough time for lots of places.  My place lost $13 million because of COVID.  We have a campus in Italy so our losses are higher than one would expect.

i take my job seriously and I know if we don’t produce, friends and colleagues will get laid off or get salary cut.  Doing my best to prevent that scenario playing out.  I’m not immune to any of it either.  I think I’ll personally be ok, but you never know. 

It’s really exhausting mentally.  This thread was a life saver the last few days to entertain me.  Thanks guys for that.

Yup.  The pressure is always there for offices such as yours, but I recognize that it has ramped up due to the crisis.  I've had very good communications with my advisees this week, but I still worry greatly about our overall enrollments (retention and new students) and financial health next year.

It's really tough times in so many industries.   My (current) employer provides insurance for construction firms.   Every day we hear stories about clients in financial trouble.  One of my closest friends owns a small business (in suburban NYC) that is highly likely to shut down in May.  He and his wife picked a really bad time to expand their business.   

Best of luck to everyone.  No easy situations or decisions right now.

Retention will be a huge issue as well.  Financial restraints will make tuition out of reach for lots of families.

 
Man, I don't know if it was the 5K last Thursday or the hard Peloton ride that I did on Friday, but between the two of them, I think they took a lot more out of me than I realized...

Yeah, Sunday I had to shut down a run as it started, I took Monday off, and this morning I was still really sore.  HR high for the pace as well.  I never thought a 5K could could put that kind of enduring hurt on my legs, but apparently it can.

 
This morning, I got passed by another runner.  PASSED.  WTH?  I'm the one that does the passing in my 'hood [flashes gang signs]!

And he also had the nerve to not be on Strava.  Double-indignity.

My goal in the fall is Monumental and I have my training mapped out which starts 7/6, but I not confident that it is even going to happen.  Once marathon training starts it will be a challenge mentally, training for an event that might not happen.

I'm not even sure what my training plan looks like though memorial day. 

With a few races postponed to the fall, I'm not even sure what races I'm doing let alone training for them. :shrug:

Seeing more articles about the fuzz using Strava to go after athletes...any concerns?
If running is illegal now, you'd be better off putting your info on private or not uploading data. There's no privacy expectation when you're publicly sharing your information. 

Thankfully there's no issue here.

I'm quite schedule driven as well and at the moment with every triathlon and running race cancelled or moved, I've tried to refocus on the Paris Marathon (October 18) as my only race for the rest of the year. I've never done a 24-week training plan before but just to be able to have some structure for the rest of the year I'm going with a 24-week schedule from Pfitzinger's Advanced Marathoning. 

There's no sense in signing up for any additional fall races at this point due to their uncertainty. Just focusing on what is dead money and already postponed for me.

I have my spring half that was rescheduled for August 29th (absolutely terrible time to have a half in KC). 

So not sure I'm going to race this one. It will be unbearably hot and humid that time of year. On the other hand, I've never missed a race start that I signed up for, so I have a measure of pride to keep that streak alive.

I'm just keeping focused on what we are doing right now while also ensuring I'm hitting minimum benchmarks with volume - 50 mpw non-race weeks and something of consequence > 80 mins each non-racing weekend. I figure there's no sense in trying to forecast what Summer will be like - let alone Fall. So why put the time & energy into creating a training plan. I mapped out a timeline with Monumental in mind, but just that - I didn't fill anything in.

As I wrote not too long ago I have been 'on' for a while. And I've been feeling it. I've ruled out starting-and-stopping another marathon training plan. So we need some optimistic news by July sometime or else I'll miss my timelines for Monumental and potential marathons will wait another year. I'm hitting reset this winter no matter what happens between now and then - will focus on strength and just easy run to compliment/not get fat.

I kinda chuckled after my run yesterday. My HR was unusually low for that pace, especially given the 5K two days prior. But, the legs - still trashed. I think that's a good cardio sign, but probably driven more by perfect conditions (high 40's/sun) than anything. Hoping to be recovered enough for SoS Wednesday then get started on a mini 10K plan.

Wish I could say this, too.  I had a voluntary DNS for the Houston Marathon in January, because I didn't want to jeopardize my training for Miwok (my top goal for 2020). 

And then Miwok got canceled.  :rant:

 
Also should be pointed out that there are no articles about mapmyrun being used by the authorities 
I still use MapMyRun to plan out my routes. Their tool is easier to use than Strava's, in my opinion. 

The part that sucks is MapMyRun used to allow you to highlight a segment within a finished run so you could see HR, Pace, etc within those segments. They took that out of there and made it a premium feature when Under Armour bought them. 

So now I have to import my data from strava to Smashrun to be able to do that. It works fine - just one more step.

What training will best keep you engaged?  Probably a hybrid approach with marathon plan approach & workouts but a few really long slow efforts to get the time on feet aspect of the Last Man.  
I think 2020 is going to be the year of challenge type events for me as even if events open up I may stay away at least from big or logistic heavy ones. That has me thinking either smaller or trail or self supported stuff.

If you continue training for our 10K and mile, you'll be in excellent shape by 7/6.  Maybe plan on some half marathons in September or October too?  I think that's what I'll do.

However, I know that my seat of my pants, unscripted training method makes flexibility a little easier for me.

I just can't see Boston being a "go."  It's a worldwide event, and many countries are a month or more behind where we are at in terms of growth in cases, not to mention lack of resources to address the outbreak.  The virus will be raging through the summer.  Would Boston make it a U.S.-only event in September?  That seems to be against the nature of the event. 

Even if they keep it domestic, without solutions in place, I can't see it being prudent that they bring tens of thousands of runners together like that.  The pain of 2013 lives on.  They cannot afford having a different type of catastrophe develop on their own watch.

 
As to training, our race series will carry me through mid-June.  Early July is time at our cottage and lots of great running/swimming there.  By mid-July, then, I'll be eyeing a new AG come early October, so I'll keep up the mileage and some SOS and then fine-tune the training when I decide on fall races.  The A goal for the next twelve months will always be Boston '21.

There is a scenario where this breaks right for me, Broad Street was rescheduled to 10/4 so I could make a legitimate sub 60 attempt. I also have the Bourbon Chase in October so there won't be any half marathons for me.  Who knows where we'll be by then.

I couldn’t help myself, I extended and we embraced in the most solid handshake I’ve had in all my 33 years. So, I start running tomorrow, but I may have that Rona. Absolutely giddy to complete my 1-2 miles in the morning. Leggggo TeamGrue!

Absolutely love this!

But please be careful.  Not only because we don't need a #BMF like you boosting #TeamGrue's performance (GO #TEAMJUXT), but more importantly because you need to keep the long-term goal in mind.  It would be gutting to hear you overdid it on a run/race, and took a big step back in your knee's recovery.

This unknown is why I punted doing one in September to try and qualify for 21. I think there's a decent chance 22 is impacted as well, which is contributing to my lack of commitment for November.

I'm sure it would have quite an impact.  If the '20 qualifiers roll over - which only seems fair to them - what percentage would still go?  A high percent, I expect.  But then you get the oddity of people shifting up to new AGs ...and runners (like me) who have already got our qualifier for '21.   :loco:    A "benefit," I suppose, to all these cancelled races is that it limits the number of new qualifiers for '21.  If '21 is heavily filled with the '20 qualifiers, there won't be much room for new entrants anyway.

So @Brony, if you overrun your 10K, too ...don't get your hopes up.
