Ran a 10k - Official Thread (1 Viewer)

5238 on the right seems like the winner of this group ...he’s got his gear working for him.  5128 on the left is next.  Smaller guy, a Kenyan wanna-be.  Third is 5212 - looks like he’s put on some muscle to make himself faster.  Yellow shirt is fourth ...too overdressed to beat the others.

Also very close.

I would post the answer if I remembered how to hide in a spoiler.

Ok. Money on the three guys in singlets, and dude in the the orange hat.

Arms crossed dgaf woman in the back a sneaky bet though.
Ok...

1. Full kit %^&*@! nebraska guy toeing the line. He even matched his damned shades. He either wins, or you collectively best the snot out if him before the gun.

2. Singlet with arm warmers. Always bet on that combo.

3. Whichever one you are.

4. Singlet in background to left. Gear doesn't look as race proven, but maybe.

5. If you're not yellow shirt, he takes a tumble somewhere...because of the yellow shirt.

And again...was thinking about your race on my own abbreviated overslept run this morning. Even downhill, I still can't hit the speeds for even one mile that you're going for 10k. Just impressive stuff...unless you're the full kit %^&*@! or yellow shirt guy.

I've read too many of others' thoughts to go full win/place/show, but when I first looked my instinct was 5128.  I'm assuming he's going to ditch the hat right before the gun.

I can't remember if we shared this in the past but this is a race calculator that helps to understand your race times as you age.

Time Age model

Based on my 3:12 marathon at age 48, I could have run a sub 3 hour marathon at age 40.  Can I count that? 😀

Only if I can go back and count a 2:44 marathon! Nice to see predictions of sub-4:00 marathons through age 78.   :loco:   Not sure if that factors in a dozen porta-potty stops.

Hi, I'm here to complain about the warm weather. Is this the right thread?
Yes, welcome.  This morning it was 68F with a DP of 60F.  Sucked.

Really dreading numbers +10 to +15 of that in a month or so.  Effing Trudeau needs to open the border so at least I can have cool morning (mountain) runs on the weekends...

Oversleeping suuucked today. Throws off what was going to be my last big build/workout week before 4/25 hm.

Work has been absolute ####. Grabbed an indy contracting gig just to pay the bills after the covid layoff. But it's making me absolutely miserable. Ended up staying up late last night watching old videos of the kids...I'm realizing now just to provide some happiness in what's turning into crappy days- and to put off going to sleep and avoid starting it all over again. Of course a bad mix regardless...now I'm exhausted AND still at this crap job.

And what was supposed to be me attacking my hill workouts this am was just a short quick out and back over the bridge. And I ran the section I typically repeat super slow.

Bleh.

Whine whine whine. Sorry.

Page 2?

No pushups to analyze?

Juxt doing some ladeedah interval workout, but yeah...waited many, many hours after his ladeedah 10k. Otherworldly.

It's been gorgeous spring weather here- so nice to run in. Only downside is the whole city is thinking the same thing...everywhere is jammed up with people dusting off their workout stuff and hitting sidewalks. Harder to maneuver, but good on them.

Oh...floppinho might go out for the cross-country team when he starts HS in the fall. He's not a "sports" kid, although he does have some natural athletic ability. And cross-country is open to all without cuts.

I'd like to get him started training for the fall, but not sure how/where to start. Any thoughts for an approach or program that can take him from current 0 to pushing his comfort zone come fall? He's never actually pushed his body to difficulty before.

Its difficult because my son really likes to run with his friends.  COVID put a major damper on that.  I tried so many times to see if he wanted to run, but it never really worked.

In thinking about your son, I'd possibly start at a track, only because if you go 1/2 mile or 3 miles, you don't have to worry about being far from your starting place when finished.  Then you can start the run by going slow and then if he wants to work on some speed, its easy to say sprint the straightaways and recover on the curves.

I'll be interested to hear what works and how it goes.  🙂

Just curious.  So floppinho is in 8th grade, right?  How has he never participated in anything where he had to push his body to difficulty?  No judgment or anything, this is just hard for me to fathom.

So the pushup challenge is going well for me.  My goal was 100 a day.  But @pbm107 keeps showing off with big numbers.  So I decided to up my game a bit the last couple days and did 150 and 160. I also did a Peloton upper body workout this morning so my chest and triceps are trashed right now with 50 more pushups to go to hit 100 today.

Wondering if "Gramps" is @tri-man 47 on the sheet?  Or someone else?  Anyone?  Bueller?

Yes, that's me.  Who is Tome Raider?

Inappropriate for me to drop down and do sets of pushups in my office, or is that just the ultimate flex?  I have big glass windows, so people can definitely see in...

I noticed and considered doing the same but decided to stick with the 140. I am already doing more than normal since I didn't completely skip last weekend. I have a decent routine going for me with my pushup, pullups, and unweighted squats.  I'm starting to see some improvement with my upper hamstring, I think the squats are helping.

Like you don't run in place in there from time to time....

Do the pushups and own it. Flex it. Strut it.

That’s good to hear. For me, personally, I’ve learned that rest never seems to help with nagging injuries. I have to attack them with strengthening and stretching.

Thanks fortunately I haven't really had to deal with many injuries, I have been able to get by with ignoring all pains in the first mile and not running if I feel pain after that.  I am starting to think I need to start doing some preventive maintenance/strengthening.

Yeah, we can only rely on our youth for so long.

Just spent the last 5 days in Naples, FL. Had a great amount of sun time, beach time, read some books time, some fishing - just overall good family fun.  Not much running time, but that's ok - my boys wanted to fish every day in the mornings and I just couldn't say no to them.

Wife also received a job offer while we were there. Full work from home, so we would no longer be constrained at all on location. So that's good news. They are ironing out some details, so hopefully she can get her questions answered and she can accept today. Say a quick prayer for her if you believe in such things - been a rough 8 months around my house with job stresses.

Back to the grind.  🤙

Congrats to your wife.  And welcome to Wisconsin, GB!

NYC is a tough place for kids to just go out and run around. It's all supervised, all the time and somewhat difficult to find open space or parks. So either they actively do sports, or there's not much other outlet.

Floppinho played rec soccer for a few years when he was little (hated it) and has been taking tennis classes (not competitive matches) and may try out for the HS tennis team. But he's always put his time and energy into music and theater- he's a performing arts kid and excels at both- something he can practice at home.

I've had a few bouts of taking him jogging, about 5-6 runs per bout before it becomes a battle for him to even get out the door and he stops. He's gone about 5k non-stop around 9:00s the last time we did this together.

It was difficult for me finding the time and consistency to do this with him on a 9-7 work day. Now that he's old enough to travel around on his own, he can also go run on his own. The river I do most of my running on is 1/2m away through city streets and there's a track on the river another 1/2ish mile up (thanks @SteelCurtain).

AAnd now it's just about setting him with something that's consistent and enjoyable for him. His school has a running club (it's a school hyper focused on music...these are not athletes) once a week and he loves the social aspect. If I could find him a friend nearby to run with, we'd be golden.

Lol. Nope. Just a friend who is running first marathon in a couple weeks and is hoping to BQ in Indy.  I told her it was a good fast course and she’s in MI so it’s drivable. She says she will do Indy but hasn’t registered or gotten a hotel so we will see.  🤷‍♂️
Initials DF?

Wife is officially signed, sealed and delivered. Big raise, health insurance on day one, 401k sign-up and match after 30 days...all in all a good day for her and our family.

One step closer to my dream of selling shovels out of my garage.  :banned:
