...and I didn't wear a shirt this morning in my jaunt through the rain.It was so cold this morning that I was unwilling to remove my hands from my mittens so that I could blow my nose during the run.
So, from the start, I resigned myself to just letting the snot flow.
This is what you get. (WARNING: GROSS, click at your own risk)
Oh, and Merry Christmas!!! May you all find future PRs in your stockings!
Awesome! But get at least one workout in before racing in them since it’s a verrry unusual feeling (including cornering).I got a pair of those crazy nike sneaks, I mean these things are ridiculous. Like Ferraris for feet, omg I’m so in love.
wife wants me to wear them around the house and I told her no way I’m taking any steps in these unless I’m racing.
wow
merry Christmas everyone!
Race her to the bedroom, if you know what I mean. Bonus if you keep em on throughout.....I got a pair of those crazy nike sneaks, I mean these things are ridiculous. Like Ferraris for feet, omg I’m so in love.

One of the guys from years ago (2Young2BBald) did wear his HR monitor during one of those ‘workouts.’ It spiked (the HR).Race her to the bedroom, if you know what I mean. Bonus if you keep em on throughout.....
Maybe will try both wearing our watches and see who "wins"?One of the guys from years ago (2Young2BBald) did wear his HR monitor during one of those ‘workouts.’ It spiked (the HR).

Is it a bad sign that I’ve done this and it was zone 1?One of the guys from years ago (2Young2BBald) did wear his HR monitor during one of those ‘workouts.’ It spiked (the HR).
Not as a bad a sign as if I was in Zone 5 and she was in Zone 1.-OZ- said:Is it a bad sign that I’ve done this and it was zone 1?

What is the science behind compression sleeves or socks? Not trying to be critical but what benefit do they provide? I’m curious because I am having something similar to shin splits and wonder if these would help.I wear them while running...unless I have on tights. I actually never wear them outside of running...though, I probably would wear them when on a flight if I'd been doing any sort of training.
IMO, sleeves during running, socks after. I own both (but hardly ever use either).I got some of these for Christmas

Not a doctor, but I believe it's circulation-related.What is the science behind compression sleeves or socks? Not trying to be critical but what benefit do they provide? I’m curious because I am having something similar to shin splits and wonder if these would help.
Dr. Google is a big fan of compression for shin splints. What is the science behind compression sleeves or socks? Not trying to be critical but what benefit do they provide? I’m curious because I am having something similar to shin splits and wonder if these would help.
Maybe you should wear a shirt next time.Sloooooow 10-mile run this morning on snowy trails (with ice underneath). Not what I'd call fun.

After long and/or hard runs, my calves look like they're possessed by aliens ...all kinds of little jumps and jiggles in random spots up and down the lower legs. I don't feel anything, but there's a lot of movement. When it's particularly active, I'll pull on compression socks to help quiet the monsters within. This is my understanding. It helps the circulation which helps healing (I think). I started using them because of calf pain. The days I dont wear them, I can feel it in the calves later in the day (a more dull pain). When I wear them, I dont generally have any calf issues unless it's a hard workout.
9 minutes -> foreverLet's you are a very slow 5k runner (think 34 minutes or so).
How long would it take to train and get this down to 30 minutes? 28 minutes? 9 minutes?![]()
The gym work absolutely played a role in October's failure. That was more a function of the schedule than anything though. That is why I was so non committal throughout summer about doing a marathon. I had no confidence I had enough time to adequately prepare my body to BQ.@MAC_32 - I've been thinking about you lately, and I was wondering something in regards to your training and what you consider a fail on that BQ or Bust marathon:
Is it possible that all the gym training mixed into all that running is actually a negative for you come race day? I've wondered if your body may be in an over-worked mode (for lack of a better term) that actually fatigues you unknowingly.
I also know you love that grind and working and such, but do you think it may actually be a detriment?
Five of us are on track to hit 2,000 miles ...a few of us for the first time. @bushdocda, @xulf, @gruecd, @MAC_32, and myself all need less than 100 miles over the next four weeks.
Boss level here. Great push Z!12,447m (40,836ft) -- highest monthly elevation gain ever
Not very long at all. Others may know better than me, but I would say 2-3 months. But there are a lot of factors that come into play. Everyone is different.Let's you are a very slow 5k runner (think 34 minutes or so).

I know this wasn't intentional, but this became bulletin board material for me a few weeks ago. I was thinking "Hey, I'm not that far from 2,000 miles! Is @tri-man 47 thinking it's out of reach for me? I'll show him!"
So I put my shoes on, and had my best month of training since I started running:
...and today, with one day to spare, I hit 2,000 miles for 2021.
- 422km (262mi) -- highest monthly distance volume ever
- 12,447m (40,836ft) -- highest monthly elevation gain ever
- 54h3m (2.2 turns of the earth) -- most active time ever (includes weights/PT)
- Best/fastest 20-miler ever (race or training)
- Multiple Prairie Mountain PRs (but still not on the ascent, that one eludes me)
Thanks for the motivation! I know this is totally unintentional on your part, and totally fabricated on mine. Yet my (fabricated) goals are what keeps me getting out there. Even in -33C/-27F temps.
Will tackle my year-end summary tomorrow. Not sure if I'm going to run or take a day. We'll see.
Too bad that @Zasada is only 6,200 ft. from again reaching 200,000 ft for the year.![]()
on my shoulder goading me on!!!
