I despise overreacting on a couple of games, but I'll be livid if Betemit gets another at-bat for the rest of the post-season. I honestly hope that was his last at-bat as a Tiger.

As a lifelong Ranger fan, to hear anyone mention their pitching staff and call it an "embarrassment of riches" still does not compute with me.

Thanks Joe Buck for blowing my mind.

Hint: Ogando was a starter all season. Maybe having the luxury of moving a guy like that to the pen for the playoffs could be considered an embarrassment of riches. Great game. Finally exhaling. :banned:

Ok super homer. If you want to believe Joe Buck was talking about Matt Harrison and Colby Lewis, it probably isn't gonna hurt anyone.

On the bright side if you're Detroit, you struck out 14 times and still had a chance. (They had no chance)

Had too much to drink and couldn't make it through the 2nd rain delay. Good game up until then though.

Really no denying that Verlander was getting squeezed bad last night.

I agree about Francona in the booth. He's awesome. Loved the "all I want right now is a chew and to be able to curse" line. Didn't catch that Nolan Ryan stuff.

By the sound of the forecast I'll be shocked if the game gets played tonight. Might be for the best since we are set to face the tigers double secret ace.

Thank you so very much for correcting my thought. It's good to have such intelligent baseball minds to keep us losers in line.I am so very incorrect in saying "pitching staff" when Joe Buck clearly said "bullpen". The Rangers starters clearly shouldn't even be on this playoff roster they suck so bad. If only Texas can have a starting five half as good as Max Scherzer. That 4.43 ERA is so much better than anything the Ranger starters have done this year. Let's not look at the fact that every Ranger starter not named Dave Bush did better than that. You have to look at a smaller sample size, you know, to really see where a pitcher is at right now. Scherzer just had a bullpen session that would have made Cy Young cower in fear.

strikezone from last night

Guy was just giving nothing on the low corners to anyone. Looks fairly consistent to me
It wasn't horrible, the worst calls just seemed to happen at a couple of key instances where Texas ended up with a big hit following a questionable call. But that is baseball. Calling balls and strikes is a tough job and there is going to be a dozen questionable calls over the course of a game. It is all part of it and effects both teams.

:goodposting: Verlander's complaints also drew more attention to the questionable ones that went against him. Made it feel more unbalanced.

Maybe not Cy Young, but Nolan Ryan was getting a bit nervous anyways. Texas got the big hits and Detroit didn't. Both bull pens were outstanding, Texas's moreso. It was a well played game except for Jackson's inexplicable muff.

This is from Texas storm chasers twitter:

Rain should be on the decrease by game time (light rain, not like last night) with it moving out by about 9 PM.

Magglio Ordonez out for the series/season for the Tigers, because of ankle trouble.from twitter
Doesn't hurt as much as losing Boesch and Young, but the Tigers have nothing left in the outfield that resembles a serious threat at the plate. Rayburn is the best bat right now. If you said at mid-season that Rayburn was going to be your best hitting outfielder for the ALCS, no one would have believed you. Rayburn, Kelly, Jackson, and Dirks....a bunch of .250 hitters with limited power. It will take some people stepping up that we don't expect if the Tigers hope to pull this out.

MLB screwed up. This game should be played. Very minimal rain since they postponed. They should have at least waited a little longer to make the call.

yeah, sun is coming out in spots. Not sure the upside to delaying it other than to not put it across SNF

Rabbit Maranville cries a little for your trolling the Tampa and Tigers threads and this response. We are talking about what Joe Buck said. I also didn't compare the Rangers pitching with the Tigers pitching or say anything about Scherzer last night (cutb ranked them, I disagreed and you and Stu have had a whine fest about it). Rangers bullpen is elite, outstanding in every way.

I want to avoid any back and forth here so let me say that the Rangers are a good team and I was one of the first to congratulate you specifically last year when they won...and all the Rangers fans. If you think your starters are elite, fine. I don't agree and I don't think that is what Joe Buck was alluding to (I can't believe we care about what Joe Buck thinks anyway). Whatever, seems kind of stupid to argue about.

I made one post (NAPOLI!!!) in the Tiger thread when everyone and their dog in that thread were wishing for a Rangers loss so they could have home field advantage. I hardly consider that trolling. I made one comment about TB's crappy ballpark and attendance and made my amends with Cappy, again, on this board, hardly trolling. But whatever. I'm done with it.
