Ray Rice is underperforming his ADP (1 Viewer)

Ok, I know that I am totally jumping the gun on this one, but is anyone starting to get the feeling that Ray Rice is not going to live up to his top four adp?

Rice has been getting outscored by rb's who were taken in the 8th round of most drafts so far this season.

Is this production what we are going to see on a regular basis from Rice in 2010 or have his first two weeks been the exception rather than the rule and Rice will return to being an impact rb?

Man, calm down.

You are seriously overreacting. He faced the #1 defense out of the gate in the NY Jets, and a stout Cincy defense that always plays Baltimore tough. Don't fret about owning Rice. His days will come.

I'm not worried at all. Rice is getting touches, that's all that matters. Flacco's not playing well right now and so defenses are able to stop the run. I don't think that will last. This Raven team has too many weapons on offense to be scoring as little as they have. Rice will be fine.

At NYJ, at Cincinnati on a short week. Flacco has been throwing the ball 40 times a game. Starting with the upcoming game at home against Cleveland I'm expecting the numbers expected of him.

The End.
It's not going to get much better on that front though. They get Cleveland next week, which is nice, but then they're @Pittsburgh, who looks like the elite Pittsburgh defense of years prior (and not last year's team), then New England and Miami (who look like a top D with Nolan in town) in 2 of the next 3 weeks. They play Cinci and Pitt again as well.

2 weeks in.
I know I may be jumping the gun, but Rice was drafted in most leagues to be an elite talent. To this point he has not been even close to that.
Most RBs won't put up numbers vs the Jets. If Flacco can't make people respect the pass then I would be worried. However I don't see that trend continuing especially with the addition of Boldin. Rice will overcome. He is that good.

You can read the game recap tomorrow but here is a sneak peek at what I wrote after watching the game

Ray Rice –Rice was given the 1st 3 touches of the football game. He would only get another 13 carries the rest of the way. Rice looked very good. In the middle of the 2nd quarter Baltimore went back to Rice and he was doing what I call the pop n bounce off would be tacklers. The Ravens would have been wise to stick with Rice throughout the game. He would have had a mediocre day and might have still in non PPR leagues but in leagues that were PPR, Rice managed about 15 points and owners cannot be too sore about it. Flacco turning the ball over did not help matters. Rice was 11 for 78 yds on 1st and 10 for the whole game. The Ravens need to trust in Rice some of the time and today would have been an especially good time.

Nice fantasy writeup, and I don't mean to be overly critical, but the coaching staff was probably more worried about getting Flacco more involved in the passing game. I doubt that they were worried about how it affected Rice's stat line. or to borrow a phrase from former Jets Head Coach Herm Edwards, "You Play.....To WIN.....The GAME!!"

I can't put the whole recap up but Flacco owners are not going to be sending me too many Chrstmas cards because I lit him up this week. That guy took a major step back and I feel like Baltimore did lose the game by not running Rice about 25 times today. Flacco couldn't hit the broad side of a barn today and it really hurt them. He was bad before he threw 4 interceptions.

I think you're absolutely right. Time to mail this one in.

Trade you Joe Nedney for him?

He faced the #1 defense out of the gate in the NY Jets, and a stout Cincy defense that always plays Baltimore tough.
The End.
Moreover, he had 117 yards from scrimmage against Cincy. That's a great game by NFL standards. 16 games of 117 YFS would net you nearly 1900 total yards, which is AWESOME. The problem with TD-heavy scoring systems is that people think everyone had a bad game any time he didn't score.Rice had a bad game against a great defense and a good game against a good defense. No reason for worry.

And just to piggyback here, Rice did a great job from an NFL standpoint today. He was running very hard, bouncing off tacklers, and that's why I feel Baltimore should have run him over and over today. Flacco was really bad and it wasn't because he was being pressured all day long either. Rice owners have nothing to worry about.

So what is 1600+ yards worth if he's a 4 TD guy, a la Warrick Dunn? Last year he busted a bunch of long TD's. The Charlie Garner/Dunn model is not a RB1, sorry. TD's matter, and if he's getting his lunch eaten at the goal line, he shouldn't have been a top 5 pick. :( OP

Seriously, if you drafted Rice in the top 4 in a non-ppr league, you bought hook, line, sinker into the "willis M. is not that talented, so Rice is gonna get those TD's he lost last year BACK" theory? I don't think that's happening any time soon.

I thought Rice was way overrated coming into the year. He is not the goalline back, and he wont catch 70 passes again. With that said, he wont be this bad all year.

Who are the stud RB's who are punching in touchdowns? Peterson? Okay. And? Guys like Rice and SJax are top running backs because they usually tack on around 50 yards receiving, which is about the same as scoring a touchdown. There simply aren't many all-purpose backs who get all the carries and score every game. Rice is an RB1. Period.

:lmao: Seriously, the guy was fantastic today. Where are the Balt/Cinci fans that watched this today. Ray RIce had 11 carries for 78 yds on 1st down today, get real. If the owner in my league felt like you I would be buying low. So maybe Rice is a buy low.

I'm a Lions fan. Best looked great today. But if you think Best will finish the year with better numbers than Rice from here on out, we'll just have to disagree.

I dont see that happening unless Rice takes over as the goalline back.

He broke a sweet 30-yard run that would've been for 70 yards and a score had it not been for a desperation ankle tackle by the last guy. And he's got the Browns coming up.

Sean is saying that he can't post his entire Game Recap up because it's part of our subscriber content, but that he was extremely critical of Joe Flacco in said write up.

This thread says I should approach the Rice owner in my league and see if he has similar thoughts.

Rice = Buy Low

I expected Flacco to really advance this season with the new weapons and a year of experience. But he is regressing so far, badly. The Ravens need to start using Rice more if they want to win. He is the piston that moves the engine, not Flacco. Maybe adding all those new receivers has upse the passing chemistry? I don't know. But Flacco looks horrible--his face had that deer in the headlights look that Cutler had last season.

Agree 100%. I give him just a little wiggle room because of the MNF game last week that took its toll but he was not accurate all day long.

In a 2 QB league I still like Flacco and obviously still love Rice. They've played 2 pretty solid defenses so far. Flacco and Rice will pick it up this week, then they have to play Pitt and probably struggle. After that things will get easier and Flacco will have some nice games and Rice some monster games. I think the shark move for Jahvid Best/Arian Foster owners is to dangle those guys and go after Rice either now or after the Pitt game week 4.

He started the season against the Jets and at Cin, and the FF playoffs for Balt include Hou, NO, and Cle.

There are not enough blackdots in the world for this thread.

Im not very worried about Flacco or Rice, they had two road games 6 days apart against two VERY good defenses. My problem with Rice is he was overrated before the season started. Part of the reason though was lack of better options. When it comes to spending a top 5 pick on a RB, getting the goalline touches is a must. I would trade Foster for Rice if i could, but not Best, that kid is the real deal.

That's an interesting question. Who would people rather have at this point...Rice or Best? I say Rice. Eight days ago would anyone believe it'd even be a discussion right now?

I agree, and the answer is Rice for me, although only slightly. Perhaps that gap widens a bit after Rice hosts Cle this weekend and Best visits Minn. Rice still has to play Pitt twice..ugh.

Im sure most realized it was possible, especially considering the 15 page hype thread. Rice is mo doubt a top 10 talent at the RB position, but last year at this time, most people would have thought it crazy to thnk he wpoould be a top 5 back by seasons end. How many games does it take for you to realize a player is talented? I think Best has shown he has the talent to be a top 5 RB. The difference between Rice and Best for me is usage. Best and Rice should both catch alot of passes, but i actually think Best will catch more based on lack of better options in the passing game. Both players also have big play ability, but again, i give the edge to Best in this category. The biggest reason i prefer Best is goalline carries, Best gets them and Rice doesnt. That is a HUGE advantage for a RB.The only real advantage Rice has is a better Oline and the fact that he has proven it over one full season, and Rice has only done it over a handful of games.

And Best was injury prone in college. You're both overvaluing goalline carries (there just arent that many of them) and underestimating the Baltimore offense.

:lmao: Love Best, but Baltimore will return to their nasty, clock-control offense once they get some leads, and Rice will start ripping off big chunks very soon. Baltimore is a far, far superior situation for a pass-catching RB. Best will have huge games, and games like he had against Chicago, only he won't sniff the endzone. By the end of the season, Rice will have much fatter numbers, goalline carries or not.

Just curious to how Rice was overated? He was a top 3 RB last year and is a beast of a player. Also making claims any player is the real deal after the player has played in a grand total of 2 NFL games is laughable. Think about it.

Rice will be fine. Keep in mind the opponents he has faced, the beginning of the year, and Flacco underperforming. I believe the Ravens O will get better, Flacco improves, and their schedule lightens. This, coupled with the fact that the Ravens run the ball well, Rice is a very talented back, and can catch out of the backfield, I would buy low if the situation presents itself.
