Ray Rice video of KO punch released (1 Viewer)

Actually, it wasn't as bad as I presumed. There's a difference between a quick reactionary jab and reaching back and cold cocking a woman. She lunged and he reacted. If you're the kind of guy who would absorb that then good for you. But a lot of homosapiens have a natural instinct to hit back. He used as much force as the situation called for, no more. His body language after the blow seemed remorseful. He clearly did not want to do that but the situation called for it in his estimation. I still think his suspension should've been longer though.
He punched her once, she lunged toward him, and then he KO'ed her.

If she doesn't approach him, he doesn't knock her out.

I've been told over and over in this forum, that over reacting to one incident is not a smart way to handle anything. Goodell handed out the punishment, everyone reacted, and he made changes to the policy.

Not sure what else you people want. Rice's head on a stick?

Gordon gets a year for smoking a joint, Matt Prater gets 4 games for drinking some beer. Sugar Ray Rice gets 2 games for molly whopping his wife. That was one of the best left hooks I have seen since Mike Tyson was in his prime.
Yes, of course.

I dont understand the comments in here:

THIS TYPE OF B.S. IS PRECISELY WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU RELY ON A SPORT THAT IS FULLY FOCUSED ON HOW TO GET AN OBLONG BALL ACROSS A GOAL-LINE TO ADJUDICATE JUSTICE ON INTRICATELY DETAILED CRIMINAL/CIVIL ISSUES.

The NFL and NFLPA will never, ever, never be able to be to equitably account for the thousands types of crimes that could possibly be committed by its players/owners/management.

Im all for a few simple blanket rules by any employer, but stop counting on the NFL to adjudicate justice.

Sure, the Ravens could fire him, the NFL could fire him, etc as is their right in most cases....but to seek consistency in detailed punishments is positively silly given that (1) this is a sport and (2) that so much is negotiated b/t the NFL & NFLPA.

Leave detailed punishment to the courts and even then you'll be lucky when they get it right.

What I want is for all the Baltimore white trash that gave him a standing ovation in the scrimmage a month ago to make them watch the video and then tell me why this guy deserved your glory

Lol what did you guys think it was going to look like? I'm not surprised or shocked in the least. I mean it sucks but it's a standard KO.
This.

This goes to show how the American public reacts to hearing something then seeing it. Two different things. Doesnt mean Ray Rice is not a doosh and does not mean he doesnt deserve harsher, just means people are interesting. To the person above, Goodell is done? He works for the owners and since he has been commish the league is thriving, they are not gonna get rid of him because you dont like how long his penalty for the situation was.
With all due respect - Not "this".

I've seen drunk couples fighting a lot (I used to work with a company that had cameras every where, and lots of drunks at night), and there is a huge difference when you see a drunk woman taking off her shoe and beating a man with it, and he's shielding himself and eventually pushes back or swings wildly to get away

or

A guy just cold clocks a woman in the face because she pushes him or starts yelling at him.

In the end, they both suck, but for some reason I thought maybe she was beating the crap out of him before he swung, or maybe he pushed her off of him and she hit her head. I figured there's no way Goodell didn't see the vid, and since he only doled out 2 games, it must have been an accident.

But holy moly, I didn't expect this. Jesus. If Goodell actually did see this vid, and then he had the victim, Rice's wife, do an interview with Rice sitting right next to her, then he is a complete ####### moron.

Good lord.

Every female that approaches you and is angry, you knock out?

Must be a barrel of fun in your household.

*ETA* Not accusing you of actually doing this - just making a point that your statement is one of the most idiotic things I have ever read on these forums.

Seems like that old white lady that waddles into the picture had thoughts of jumping on the elevator but notices the two of them and corrects herself in mid-waddle and keeps on walking.

I don't think Goddell handled the situation well especially if he saw the video and how could he have not but more blames lies with the judge and DA that let Rice walk.

When I saw the original video, I thought we were watching someone who was completely inebriated being dragged and I was like "Been there".... Given the suspension and all, I assumed "The Hit" was an overblown part of an argument where she was more Drunk than "knocked out"... Not so. Maybe I expected more or a self defense / accidental "Hit". Not so, he even spit on here to cause her to come at him....

Imagine just spitting on your spouse?

Little old lady waddling - that made laugh - especially after I watched it again.

So you're justifying his actions?
I'm looking at the entire incident. She did initiate contact with him outside the elevator. Then she approaches him in the elevator. Both parties could have done things differently.

Point still remains, Goodell has changed the punishment structure on domestic abuse. Something good will come out of this situation, isn't that what people want?

who are we to judge?
We're other members of the society that Ray Rice and his victim/wife live in. The same society that has established and lived by the unwritten rule that it's wrong, pathetic, and cowardly to knock out a woman. Societal pressure and not wanting to be treated like a social outcast is what previously helped prevent men from cold-cocking women. The "Who are we to judge?" mindset is what allows that barbarism to go unchallenged. I have no problem judging people based on their actions. For instance, I judge you as a guy who parrots mindless cliches.
You can judge me and ray ray all you want. You're just someone behind a keyboard and your judgement really doesn't matter to me or to him lol. But I do suggest you get your anger issues in check or next it might be you cold clocking your significant other.

They got in the elevator, she pushed the button, he cornered her and said something, she pushed him away, he hit her the first time. You act like this did not happen.

What did he say to her? Why did she push him away?

And she hit him outside the elevator at the beginning of the video. Which is probably why she was initially charged with assault.

Can he be suspended again for same incident?
I think if he lied about what happened he could be suspended more for the lying.

I'm not convinced that Goodell didn't have the video already though. The NFL has a bunch of CIA/FBI types working for their security division. If TMZ can get the video, surely the NFL could. If there's any evidence that Goodell DID have this video and only gave 2 games, then I think Goodell is done. He might be even If he didn't have the video.
Goodell is back in the briar patch with this retroactive suspension business with Gordon and Welker. Before I did not think that there would be any pressure to up Rice's sentence, but how does he reduce Gordon/Welker and not be faced with calls for amending the RR suspension upward with this out?

This is what it looked like to me, as she walks by him before they get in the elevator, Rice leans in and spits right in her face.

Then, after they get in, he corners her spits in her face again and she recoils from it.

Ok, I just watched the vid for a third time. She initiated contact? Really? Now, "contact" in the context of goading someone into punching you is different than just regular contact. If you watch the vid, outside the elevator she puts our her arm out, not a punch or shove, and barely touches him. Inside the elevator he shoves her when she is near the buttons (someone said he spit on her?), and after that she comes toward him and shoves him, and...

He hits her again, in the head, and knocks her out.

I won't argue with you about it, anymore. If you still think she initiated the knockout punch, then I am not sure what planet you are coming from. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

While Rice should not have KO'd her, she should not have initiated the violence by attacking Rice first. Women are so stupid to initiate violence against their husbands. It sets the ground rules for the relationship. Physical violence is unacceptable from either side. All this tells me is that she would have done the same thing to Rice if she could but just happens to be to weak to do it.

Nah. Let's keep it about you justifying this neanderthalic behavior.

What did he say to her? Why did she push him away?
:lmao:

Was he injured? Please tell us how bad he was injured, and how he had no choice in what he did, and how he was forced to get in the elevator by a physically-superior woman, and how he had to corner her, and how he had to knock her out to defend himself.

Please. Tell us.

Simple question. Was she acting aggressive inside or outside the elevator?

This is what it looked like to me, as she walks by him before they get in the elevator, Rice leans in and spits right in her face.

Then, after they get in, he corners her spits in her face again and she recoils from it.
Looked like he may have been trying to give her a kiss? Same in the elevator?

But, everyone here has more facts than Goodell and the police. So everyone here must be right.

The first "contact" I see is Rice spitting in her face before they got on the elevator.

"Acting aggressive". Again, you try to generalize an action. What you should be asking is "Was she aggressive to the point where Rice felt his safety was jeopardy and he had to corner her, hit her once (maybe spit on her) and then when she fought back hit her in the head hard enough to knock her unconscious?".

Yes. Where the heck is the DA? I cant stand Roger Goodell and I am smart enough to know that he should not be expected to hand out punishments in a fair and consistent way on criminal issues. Blanket, black & white policies? Sure.

But consistency on any of the thousands of possible crimes that could be committed by NFL-related people? Impossible! the guy runs a sports league.

This is the DA/court's job and they are the ones to point the finger at.

Based on that, then there is nothing she could do without the use of a weapon that would make Rice feel unsafe.

It amazes me the number of people that are mad at the NFL and the Ravens. The DA didn't pursue charges against Rice. Why do you think that is?

Why is this video available to the public? I hate TMZ.
So that everyone knows just how terrible of a person Rice is.
May not be an awful person but sure did an awful thing. How many of us would do what he did? He needs a much bigger suspension.
Considering I've been in the same situation multiple times, and have still never once hit a woman, I'd like to think that the majority of us wouldn't.

What? Took him two punches to knock her out? Then the hand rail is probably what really knocked her out when her head hit it. He doesn't deserve credit for the knockout.

In all seriousness...he's a punk ### beeyotch. Cut the thug and roll with Pierce and Taliaferro.
Agree she probably got knocked out by the hand rail. Really its hard to tell if either punch was open handed or closed fist.

Yes the DA and police should be investigated too.
