It’s definitely a weird situation. Hype train running with RBs at a higher premium than normal, but if you get him in the RB 25-30 range, I do like him better than the other options. He went in the late 5th in FBG draft last night. That's just too rich, by a few rounds.
That is quite literally the worst website I have been to in quite some time.https://roanoke.com/sports/professional/washington-football-antonio-gibson-is-about-to-be-the-man-in-the-backfield/article_ca23d873-4053-5195-ab04-b0c1fd38be68.html
Washington football: Antonio Gibson is about to be the man in the backfield
I believe Gibson was moved to WR only because Memphis' backfield was stacked. RB is his best position BY FAR. That said, it's quite evident he should've got a lot more touches in college. He's simply a much better pro RB prospect than Darrell Henderson. Gibson got jobbed from a production standpoint. That can happen in college, though (due to various dynamics). What is the history of WRs converting to RB?
i can recall Ty Montgomery and Cordarrelle Patterson and thats it.....
What happened at East Central Community College? He was a WR there, as well...https://ecccathletics.com/sports/fball/2017-18/bios/gibson_antonio_24vtI believe Gibson was moved to WR only because Memphis' backfield was stacked. Gibson should've transferred, but looks like it might not matter since he did get drafted in the 3rd and seems to be getting a chance to show his stuff.
I'm not sure about ECCC. I'm trying to remember the article I read awhile back, but I believe he wasn't moved to RB sooner at Memphis due to their crowded backfield. What happened at East Central Community College? but he yet he still didn't play RB, crowded or not, he didn't earn that spot. This might end up being great, but I'm passing at his ADP of 5th/6th rnd of the past weekend. Too many GREAT players in that area to grab an unproven project.I'm not sure about ECCC. The main takeaway is comparing him to former WRs doesn't really do a lot of good because RB is easily his best position. In fact, so much so I suspect he would've been Memphis' best RB if he actually had ever gotten a chance. Gibson is extremely raw as a pure WR, but has nice receiving skills for a RB.
The time to get Gibson was in early dynasty drafts if you wanted to maximize his value. I got him at 17 overall which was quite a bit before his ADP back then, but I didn't want to take any chance of missing him. Gibson makes an ideal 2nd round dynasty pick due to his upside.but he yet he still didn't play RB, crowded or not, he didn't earn that spot. The reason is he's a MUCH better RB prospect.https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/sports/nbcsports/what-does-rbs-coach-randy-jordan-see-in-antonio-gibson-the-answer-is-both-simple-and-vast/2378172/
I have not read through the 10 pages of this thread. So please forgive me if this was posted before. The part about this article is that the RB coach states that Gibson didn't know that he was the rb in the certain formation.
Sam Quentin brings up another great point. if Gibson is such a pure and talented RB why did he not play rb in community college? Did they have another rb who made the NFL on that team? As weak as the WR group is at washington I am shocked that they have simply not moved him to the position he played predominately at Memphis.
Yea I took him at 2.04 in one spot in May and got blasted a little for it.The time to get Gibson was in early dynasty drafts if you wanted to maximize his value. I got him at 17 overall which was quite a bit before his ADP back then, but I didn't want to take any chance of missing him. Gibson makes an ideal 2nd round dynasty pick due to his upside.
I haven't commented on his current redraft ADP, but you've got to pay to play (so to say). He's a classic boom/bust pick.
On Saturday Aug 29th, I got him as my RB5 in the 16th round of a 9 team PPR redraft league, pick 138 overall. On Friday Sept 4th, AP was released. On Sunday Sept 6th, Gibson went 1.9 and 1.9 in two separate 10 team dynasty PPR drafts. Yes, I think it's safe to say that any actual value is gone.He is no longer value for sure. Went 81st in my PPR redraft tonight
Like I've said, Gibson isn't a sure thing, but he's the kind of prospect I'll draft every time in the 2nd round of dynasty leagues.Yea I took him at 2.04 in one spot in May and got blasted a little for it.
yes - big change from 7/13 (pick 35) to 8/28 (pick 18)The time to get Gibson was in early dynasty drafts if you wanted to maximize his value. Washington listed McKissic as its No. 1 running back on the unofficial depth chart the team released Tuesday, Kyle Stackpole of Washington's official site reports.
Analysis: Though McKissic sits atop the depth chart, his presence there shouldn't be viewed as confirmation that he'll start or receive the majority of the snaps and touches out of the backfield in Sunday's season opener versus the Eagles. Instead, Stackpole speculates that Washington will make use of all four of its running backs in Week 1, with multiple backs occasionally sharing the field together. Third-round rookie Antonio Gibson likely has the most three-down potential of the four backs, as McKissic has been used as a pass-catching specialist for most of his career, while Peyton Barber and Bryce Love are best suited for work on running downs.
I agree with this. Barber will be 1st and 2nd down guy, McKissic 3rd down RB and Gibson special teams and a couple gadget plays and plays from the slot to start off. If he does well with them, we will see the role grow as the year goes on. Similar to David Johnson rookie year.Is it normal to have four halfbacks available for gameday?
i am guessing that Barber and Mckissic carry the load, while the work in Gibson for returns and gadget plays, and Love will be inactive
mckissic is not starting RB material. Only a matter of time until he gets replaced.https://twitter.com/john_keim/status/1303351857109139458?s=20
Gibson listed behind McKissic on starting depth chart.
Doesnt always mean everything, but I’m sure it will slow the hype train till at least Sunday when we see how it shakes out.
I agree. Which is why I followed up with it doesn’t always mean much reading into depth charts. But it sure does makes owners expecting to draft a 3 down back pause for concern.mckissic is not starting RB material. Only a matter of time until he gets replaced.
After so many drafts, I don't remember exactly, but I took him either later first or early (somewhere between pick #10 and pick #14) in a rookie only dynasty. Got some folks talking for sure. But I figured he wouldn't drop to me later in the 2nd while a wr in a fairly wide tier surely would. Especially in dynasty, I say, always get your guy.barackdhouse said:Yea I took him at 2.04 in one spot in May and got blasted a little for it.
8th seems about right.Gibson went at 8.06 (Pick 90 overall) in our 12 team PPR Superflex redraft earlier today. Just after Hunt, Dobbins, Howard, Montgomery and just before Swift, RoJo, Fournette, and Moss.
Maybe I'll be wrong, but I think Barber might not see the field much at all. I just think they throw Gibson out there, like 15-20 touches week 1. Barber seems like injury insurance and that is all to me. If they truly valued a 1st and 2nd down type, they wouldn't have cut Peterson.I agree with this. I think David Johnson's rookie year happened as it did because the Cardinals were a contending team, and had a solid proven vet in Chris Johnson who was still a good player. Neither of those things are the case in Washington.
Gibson and Haskins = championshipim going to die on this hill go dammit
For Gibson's sake and his owners sake, let's hope not.Hawkscreetch?
Those 2 were on SB contending rosters. This is a complete rebuild. Different situations imo. This has the making of 2019 Darwin Thompson or Darrel Henderson all over again.
Maybe. He was (up until the last week or so) a lot cheaper than Henderson. Unlike Darwin, he’s got an NFL frame. I’m optimistic but I agree that there is a lot of downside possible. This has the making of 2019 Darwin Thompson or Darrel Henderson all over again.
I see nothing in common with Thompson. The only thing in common with Henderson is the college they attended, and draft capital. Henderson had Todd Gurley ahead of him though, where as Gibson has nothing ahead of him. This has the making of 2019 Darwin Thompson or Darrel Henderson all over again.
BUT HAVE YOU SEEN DARWIN BLOCK????Maybe. He was (up until the last week or so) a lot cheaper than Henderson. Unlike Darwin, he’s got an NFL frame. I’m optimistic but I agree that there is a lot of downside possible.
https://twitter.com/Sam4TR/status/1303750736568815616Speaking Wednesday, coach Ron Rivera said Washington will use a "committee" at running back.
It's a committee in that Gibson will break off 80 yard TDs and they'll all commit to giving him a high five after. For now.
Anyone think he's last till 80/81? On Yahoo he's listed like around the 100+ mark overall.got him AGAIN. once again my RB4. Pick 73.
