My take has always been they took Jeanty WAY too early. He's not that kind of talent. I thought all teams figured out by now you don't take RBs in the top-10. It's a position you can find outstanding talent in day-2...even day-3. OL in the 1st and Ollie Gordon in the 6th or Jacory Croskey-Merritt in the 7th would look awfully good for the Raiders right now.
I heard all the talk about them being interested in Jeanty during the draft process, but I would've bet money it was all smoke. I was shocked. I've asked about this a couple times, but supposedly Brady has some pull in the organization. I can't believe he would've been down for the Jeanty pick. Maybe Brady has zero input in the draft.

If you watch the Raider games, you will find Jeanty isn't the problem. He's made some rookie mistakes, and they don't trust him to pass block, which is a big issue for sure, but also shows plenty of glimpses of his potential. The real problem is the OL has morphed into a complete dumpster fire under Pete Carroll's son's completely unjustifiable watch. Downgrade all Raiders and keep them at the bottom of the barrel until Pete relieves his son of duties - given the inappropriate family dynamic at play here, I'm not optimistic that will happen anytime soon.

Nepotism is rampant in the NFL. Buncha Belichick's in the coaching ranks... or there used to be, they may all be ####### up North Carolina now.
There are many others, off hand Kubiak's, Gibbs', Shanahans' etc. To be fair, many are competent and successful, it's a great opportunity for on-the-job training but, it makes for unrealistically long leashes when they underperform.
My question is; has a Head Coach father ever fired his underperforming position coach child?

For the record, Jeanty is a good prospect…I just wasn’t nearly as high on him as consensus.
The biggest issue I had was his NFL draft stock.

Their OL play has been bad, but one issue I see is when Jeanty does break into the second level with a defender waiting on him, he'll almost always try to run them over. This isn't the Mountain West. He's got to realize he's 208, not 228 (and I question if he's even 208). Jeanty's calling card can't be breaking tackles. More elusive RBs will cut at nearly full speed when they've got a few yards between the upcoming defender, but it takes a lot of flexibility. That's not his game. He does have some escapability, but it's usually around the LOS when he's more static.

I don't mean to overemphasize this, but if I was a GM, a RB would have to be the child of Jim Brown and Barry Sanders before I'd take him in the top-10. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'd never take a RB in the 1st round unless I had a championship caliber team and thought it was the missing piece.

Mark Davis does not meddle with the draft process. He could not be more different than his father in that regard. That pick, and every other pick, came from Carroll & Spytek.

Lynch was pivotal to Carroll's most successful teams in Seattle and they invested many high draft picks over the years to keep the cupboard stocked (C Michael, Penny, Walker, Charbonnet). That doesn't mean Jeanty at 6th overall will prove a wise selection, but there's evidence that a strong running game might be Carroll's top priority when building his offenses. Taking a RB high is consistent with that approach.

It would be nice if he realized it's not 1976, or 2016 even and the offensive line is worth investing in.
As a Raider fan; Kelvin Banks or Armand Membou and TreVyon Henderson sounds really good ATM. It sounded good to me before the draft when I was tilting at windmills for it to happen.
And, I think Jeanty could be a force in this league for years.

Yeah the problem with that is they’re always behind in the 4th quarter and in passing mode and they don’t throw to him and include him in that. So fresh but sitting on the bench.

I fear that until Pete and Son realize that last year's interior combo of Meredith-JPJ-Parham was working well, especially compared to the absolute dogwater those three are putting out this season, this whole team is going to be sunk by the performance of the OL. Crazy that so many outsiders and media are now pointing to this, and yet the coaches are adamant that they don't want to consider change. That's either stubborness or I don't know what - this situation is weird. The way Pete has treated JPJ this season has been weird. It's like that guy has been in a perpertual doghouse for some reason(s).

The Raiders truly have all 3 interior guys on the OL playing the wrong position. Parham was actually decent at RG the other year but we are forcing him on the left side. JPJ was an elite C in college and good there his rookie year, yet we are forcing him at RG. And Meredith stinks as a C so I'd put him at LG. Cappa should be nowhere near the starting lineup.
Eventually I hope we see Rogers come in for Parham, JPJ to C and Merdith to the other G spot.

Lots of RBs can break tackles. But most of them get slowed down so much when they do it that it just means they're getting gang tackled half a yard away by 5 guys right after. Jeanty just runs through arm tackles without a hitch, and even shakes off guys that have him fully wrapped up while maintaining his speed.

I'm leery of this being Jeanty's breakout. I believe he's a little overrated and in a suspect situation.
That said, getting the rock is half the battle and his draft status guarantees he'll have a long leash.

Jeanty is one of those players that brings out the emotions, haha. With his performance so far, I wouldn't think anyone would bat an eye about someone saying he's a little overrated. There are people lower on him than me. I think Jeanty is a good prospect...just not anywhere near top-10 good, especially for a RB. I was shocked when they made the pick.
BTW, I liked Hooker coming out and thought Detroit should've tried to do a better job of developing him. Bringing in Bridgewater last year for the playoff run was just weird. What was he going to do for them if Goff went down? They aren't winning it with Teddy. Same this season with Allen. I liked Hooker's upside as their backup. That said, I expected him to get cut with the way it was going. Hooker should've played better in the preseason if he wanted the backup job and be one play away. As far as Goff, he's a fine QB, but I don't believe he'll ever bring Detroit a title for reasons I've explained many times. I wasn't sold on ol' Hook, but I would've loved to see what he could do as their starter. My dream is gone, lol.

I don't miss very often, but when I miss, I like to miss big.
Most any take is valid with this guy right now. Somebody saying Jeanty is going to be a stud or saying he's a little overrated is reasonable. I'd seriously question the extreme on both ends (like he's a sure-fire elite long-term FF RB back or by contrast, saying Jeanty is trash). Those takes are probably based in emotion. It's human nature to get emotional when you're heavily invested in something...FF can do that.
He's certainly got some ability. His situation is what you might call under par, but if Jeanty is as good as some people think, he'll overcome it. It'll be interesting too see what Jeanty can do this season.
