RB Austin Ekeler, WAS (2 Viewers)

Another one of my recently underperforming players lately
His drop off is glaring.
Is he no longer elite?
Expectations rest of year?

Forgot to trade him.
He's at the age and free agency that it was my predetermined time to trade years ago. The injured missed games bore this out too

Curious if Ekeler owners would have interest in Mostert. Trying to sell Mostert and love Ekeler's playoff schedule.

That said, he doesn't look like Ekeler lately.

Ekeler definitely looks a bit slower - but the playcalling has been awful (constant run up the middle instead of taking advantage of what he can do) and Herbert for some reason refuses to check down to him despite being wide open constantly. Coach is awful so dont expect it to be fixed. Doubt many teams have options to bench him so ride him out and pray something changes.

Ekeler may be approaching the end of elite production by this time next year. He's a sell IMO.

hes definitely not far from the cliff - but I do think a lot of this can be fixed with health (ankle is still clearly limiting him) and a new coaching staff that can use him correctly. Id even be interested in buying for next year on the dip.

Ekeler has been a big bust this year. What I learned this year is to......really look at the coaching change. This coaching staff is killing Ekeler's value.

Also, Ekeler doesn't look 100% recovered from that high ankle sprain.

Declare him a full blown bust now.
He’s doesn’t look quick. Doesn’t break any tackles. No cut back.
Not fully recovered from injury?
Line sucks?
Poor play calling?
He was replaced a lot by Kelly today too.

I've been really stubborn on him, especially after that great 3 game stretch weeks 8-10. But its defying all logic right now. He's seeing 70% of the workload, his team just won a game by shutout. How is this happening?

The line absolutely sucks, and the play calling is beyond awful, but I'm not sure the injury or Kelley are really issues. He might just not have it anymore. Its a little like Dalvin Cook last year I think, where the workload masked the decline a bit. I thought that would happen here too, even going into this week, but man, its incredibly rough right now.

Feels weird to say after a win, but I wouldn't blame the Chargers for firing the HC and OC after today's game. Not sure that would help, but highly confident it wouldn't hurt. Who would have guessed that Mike McCarthy was right to take the play calling back from Kellen Moore in Dallas?

I'd do this in a heartbeat, but I'm looking to win this year. Not sure I'd do it if I was rebuilding. You might look for the Eckler owner in your league to see if they are in win now mode (assuming dynasty/keeper, but might work in redraft also).

I’m still holding out hope that this guy knows fantasy, knows when we’re in the fantasy playoffs, and is going to show out for us when we need him.

I will say this - if you made it this far with him, he has a nice fantasy playoff schedule. And, there is not much else you can do but ride him to the end.

Add Ekeler to the long list of RBs that immediately fall off a cliff right around age 30. Crazy
He's 28.5. The entire running game has fallen off the cliff after game 1 vs Miami. Kelley isn't doing any better. Mostert is having a career year at 31.6.

Charger game plan has all players scrambling for looks and possible plays for yardage (maybe Allen is a no brainer... see last week tho'.)

I’m going to bench him in the league I have him. I’m still winning with him, but seeing Nico popping off the last few weeks from my bench is aggravating

Anyone buying Staley's comments on having a "competition for carries?"

Wondering if I should be grabbing J. Kelley.
I'd be shocked if the workload was any different. Ekeler needs to play better, but even this version of Ekeler is better than Kelley. Staley has sounded like a guy expecting to be fired for a couple weeks now.

Maybe it's time to give Spiller a look. He's been patiently waiting his turn. I'm not high on him, but ........

Was debating between picking up Kelley or Spiller. Ended up going Kelley. Not sure I have a free spot to try Spiller too. At the end of the day, what will the Chargers RB position yield?

No
Kelley was not good in Ekeler's absence.
I feel like everyone in FF knows this since he was a hot early ww add and how we tease.

Spiller hasn't done much...ever.

Best I can twist is this inspires the linemen and maybe FB blocking better to support their boy.

I'm more concerned about next year than end of the day.
Yeah, if you are an owner, I'd be worried from here on out. Although he does want to exit this team asap...so

If you bench Eckler against Denver you get what you deserve IMO.

Sure he's older, sure he's not as effective as he once was, and sure he's had 2 bad games in a row. BUT THIS IS THE WORST RUN DEFENSE IN THE LEAGUE.

If you're benching your first round picked RB when he has the best matchup he'll have all season... You get what you deserve IMO.

you convinced me... I had Zeke last night so I might be able to afford one more dud before Playoffs

What if he's competing for carries ROS with another (younger) RB?

Don't kill the messenger here. This is what that dope of a HC is saying.

Why not? They are 5-7 and on the outside looking in.

Who is 5-7?

I thought we were talking about Ekeler and how it would be crazy to bench him against DEN... so I asked, "What if he is splitting carries ROS (per coach)?"

I was talking about the Chargers being 5-7 and possibly wants to get a look at their other RBs.

Agreed. That's why I asked if it's still crazy to bench Ekeler if his touches drop off ROS.

Many times Josh looks like a better runner. That is not a good look for Ek. This team will not succeed looking at 2nd and 9 all the time.
