RB Brian Robinson Jr. - SF (4 Viewers)

Do running backs really get traded?

Yes, but not in the last year of their contract when the team is likely to cut them.

My guess is this is coming from both sides. He has $0 for roster bonus, game bonus, workout bonus, and guaranteed salary in 2025. Commanders save ~$3.5M in cap space if he's not on roster. And if Robinson can latch on to another team he probably gets a new deal for 2-3 years, getting him some guaranteed coin. WAS may have plenty of cap space, but not if he's asking for a new deal behind the scenes. Because if I'm them I'm front loading McLaurin's deal to have plenty left to pay Jayden what will likely end up at $75M/year by that time.

Is BRob draftable? Last round dart throw in case he gets traded into a starting opportunity somewhere in Texas maybe?

Dart thrown and I don’t mind having an easily droppable player.

Really doubt he gets traded to start unless injuries pile up somewhere.

He’s probably not going to Dallas. I don’t see many other options, maybe NO if they don’t like Neal.

that would be the best for Everyone... except Washington. Only way he finds his way there is if he gets released.
He would also look great in SF backing up/change of pace for CMC

As @barackdhouse said upthread, if they have a large role planned for JC-M, he needs plenty of live action, game-speed reps under his belt before real bullets start flying.

In addition to trying to get something, *any* something, in return for BRob, I'm sure they absolutely *do not* want him going to an RB-needy Team in their Division, and while some would immediately pointb out the Cowboys as a prime suspect, as much as I think BRob is pretty pedestrian, I think he'd complete the Giants RB room very nicely, as Skat doesn't seem ready to me, and he's absolutely better than AJ Dillon, and would give the Eagles RB stable a unique third option to complement Barkley/Shipley.

If I was any of those 3 Div rivals of my beloved WFT'skins, I'd pick up BRob in a heartbeat, and use him with glee vs them, the 2 (or maybe 3) times we crossed paths in 2025, and maybe longer.

I think Garafolo spelled it out pretty well.

Mutually agreed upon, both sides:

1. Does not fit Kingsbury scheme, to their liking, which could lead to a subpar performance.
2. Is in a contract year, and wants to be in the best situation to put the best year possible on tape, and that's not going to be in a scheme he's not a good fit for.

I like BRob, the person. I like the thought of him re-uniting with Lovie, and being impactful as a 1-2 punch with Swift, with the Bears. I like that potential outcome, a lot.

Steelers have cap space and Kaleb Johnson is having some issues with pass protection. I'd certainly take Brian over Trey Sermon.

I doubt anyone trades for him, they'll have to cut him and then he can sign anywhere that wants him
I don't see a big market for him

He'd probably be an upgrade over anything Dallas has right now. But for some reason, Dallas refuses to invest in a RB.
At least they are willing to invest in their WR corps. Mingo for the win!

They aren't even letting this guy practice now. Howie Roseman obviously isn't running the show here.

Time to cut him and let him move on.

Yep. You did this. Now show the league you do right by your guys. You can be the Yankees or the Red Sox. I’m a Sox fan but if I’ve noticed don’t you think the players do? (Not about Devers. That guy can touch the sun.)

@BenStandig

On the Brian Robinson trade front:
* My sense is there is interest from teams as they weigh whether to engage with Wash or wait for the release.
* The $3M+ salary for one year won't be for everyone.
* Compensation: Late Day 3
* Assesment: Aggressive runner w/ limited upside

traded to the 9ers for a sixth
49ers always made sense, as they have nothing but injured guys behind CMC, and I'd argue none of those guys are particularly impressive.
Guerendo returned to practice several days ago and James is likely close since he just has an injured thumb and was working on the side.

I'd argue, strongly, Brian Robinson has not been particularly impressive either.

Guess they saved a few million from what they'd have had to pay Jordan Mason but I think they got what they paid for, a lesser version.

I'm not surprised he landed on the 49'ers. I'm surprised they traded for him and took on his salary.

With the #49ers backfield depleted behind Christian McCaffrey, they get depth, Robinson gets a fresh start and Washington gets a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Guess I was wrong (y)
I read that 6th round picks have a 10% chance of making the roster. So your not completely wrong. Ha ha

Is he better than Guerrendo is I guess the relevant question. I doubt it but maybe.

yeah, the big question now is where does Robinson fit into the Nines pecking order.

There is definitely a scenario where Robinson is #2.
I don’t think BRob is particularly good, but I would imagine he would be the back to own if something happened to CMC, and he’d likely be a pretty decent RB2 if that were to happen.

I think Guerendo is a little overrated based off a couple big plays. I didn't think he looked all that good last season.

I will agree that Robinson (or Guerendo) aren't as good as just keeping Jordan Mason would have been.

I think Robinson wins the #2 job, but I think CMC sees as much work as possible as long as he's healthy. If he goes down, I'd guess Robinson gets most of the rushing, and Guerendo gets the receiving.

Yep - close to what I was saying. And if CMC Goes down, I’d expect a rotation with BRob & James, with Guerendo receiving.

I think I agree with this. CMC is not threatened but if he got hurt it's a committee led by Robinson with Guerendo mixing in.

Yeah, I think if people are drafting CMC, I don't really worry about handcuffing at this point, whereas that was probably a goal pre-trade, especially as I think very little of Jordan James.

Now, it could be a mess. I think Robinson gets the #2 job due to his prior experience, and that they traded for him, and me personally not being all that impressed by Guerendo, but that's a complete guess.
