Interesting, maybe JCM has a legitimate shot then. I am sure if they do trade for a back they will be eyeing cuts like a hawk. Fully vested in JCM in all leagues, will be interested to see how this plays out.

Maybe they’re hoping they can come to a decent enough deal and want to make sure he doesn’t get hurt. Who knows though.

Dang I would have loved to have had that knowledge before now. I mean I got Bill in the large majority of my leagues, but I also traded for B-Rob in 1 league and drafted him in a couple of other leagues. Had I of known that after last year's season I wouldn't have touched him. DOH!!! :homer:

Players fall out of favor, fair enough, but why not try to move him before a week before the season starts, i guess could argue it's in conjunction w/ JCM's rise but seems like plenty of guys they could've gone after in the offseason to replace him.

Yeah, I had 2 start-ups this offseason - missed Bill in one by about 8 picks, moved ahead of that same manager with a trade in the same round to snipe him in the other. I wanted BRob in both, but he went much earlier than I was comfortable with. That will probably prove to be a fortunate result.

My big regret is not taking Ekeler in the FBG home league. He went way way way too late, and if BRob is gone, I could see Eke having a season a little closer in value to what he did with the Chargers. Disregard - I'd forgotten about the serious concussion issues with Eke.

This really shouldn’t impact Ekeler much at all. His role is pretty well defined and they don’t want to wear him down with additional work. This is all about seeing enough good things from JCM, Rodriguez, and McNichols to feel comfortable moving on. Those guys are going to get work.

To those calling this a thin room, the team does not view it that way. Especially with the extra element Jayden brings and the action they can scheme off him making everything so much easier. Each of these guys have a +EV trait they bring to the table and compliment each other well. It’s a balanced room lacking star power, but certainly isn’t thin. And there’s a chance JCM could still bring something resembling star power on a limited basis.

I hope this is true, but it sounds a bit like wishcasting.

If BRob is a JAG, then being "better than BRob" is a somewhat low bar to clear. But yeah, I do hope it's true because I could use the RB and I'm way overdue for a rookie RB dart throw to hit bullseye.

Ekeler makes me pretty nervous. He's in the Tua category where he's likely one bad hit away from retirement, but also FAR MORE likely to have that happen than Tua, given the position he plays. My lasting memory of Ekeler last season is him getting knocked out and carted off and going on IR for a month, and that was his 2nd concussion of the season. I would think they want Ekeler's role to be smaller, not bigger.

I have always been impressed by Chris Rodrieguez whenever he gets on the field, which isn't enough, but they released him last year, and only brought him back once injuries piled up, so I don't think he's highly thought of.

I'll be really curious to see what Washington does. They've shown themselves to be an aggressive front office and they that rookie contract QB window...

Somehow I'd completely memory-holed that. You're absolutely correct. Yeah, my bad - I was 100% off on that call.
 
I didn't realize that about Ekeler. He's 30, made something like 30-40 million in his career, has a future career in football media. I know it's easy for me to say but it sure feels retirement was the right move for him this off-season.

Star power probably isn’t the word but flash or sizzle fits. All I mean is he’ll be the one with the highlights full of jump cuts.

WFT'skins would be simply trying to get something, before they get nothing (other than cap relief).
If there's compensatory pick value to be had, I don't think it would be much.

Too bad, he's a blue-collar, lunch-pail, stand up good locker room guy with a decent floor, and not much ceiling, esp in PPR.

A good NFL football player, and a good person.
I really like him as a member of the Team I root for above all others...but it wouldn't require much effort for them to find someone as good or with a higher ceiling once cuts start happening, I don't think.

yeah. that is a special kind of smoke and lines up with the trading story. Personally I totally think it's worth it to move a 6th or 7th rounder in the NFL just to avoid going thru waiver pickup competition. Trade a late nothingburger of a pick and pay him whatever the number is around 3 million I think and you've added depth and a capable starter IMO. So trading may not be that nutty from the buyer's perspective.

But the only argument I can think of for Washington doing something like that is if the little tiny savings actually adds up to something that makes signing McLaurin possible. I find that hard to believe unless there are other moving pieces involved. It has been mentioned that WAS would be super thin if they moved BR, so why not move Robinson *and* McLaurin together for x,y,z whatever is favorable for WAS but including a RB and WR presumably.

Now quote me in a video and spread it on the internet and count it as a source. While I sit here in my shorts taking rips speculating my *** off.

Those fumbles weren”t in the NFCC. They were in the regular season home game against Philly.

In 2022 Robinson was sharing carries with Antonio Gibson and the team had over 2000 yards.
In 2023 Gibson was still there. The split was 733 yards Robinson and 265 Gibson. Robinson had more share but
the total team rushing yards were only 1600.
In 2024 the team had 2600 yards but the increase was all from Jayden Daniels, who had 891 yards to Robinson's 799.

Is there? He is average. He is in the final year of his deal. There is a new regime that did not draft him. There is likely no long term plan for him given Peters focus on speed at skill positions. If they can get a 4th or a mid tier player (ie WR) for him, he's out the door immediately.

A couple of these are among the reason McLaurin is not getting a new deal....yet.

I get that he is average, but he knows the system and is competent. I cannot imagine anyone paying more than a 6th round pick for him. Just seems like odd timing to me to be shopping him now. They were one game away from the Super Bowl and their WR1 is disgruntled and they are shopping their current RB1…in August. Just catches me as odd timing.

Guessing he either goes for a 7th round pick or gets cut at this point. Either way, excited for Pacheco 2.0 to potentially contribute to my FF squads sooner than anticipated.

It’s already been explained. He’s not good, they wanted to move on, free agency was meh, they prioritized other needs in the draft but sneaky liked Bill, needed to see enough to get a comfort level, and here we are. I’ve been hoping for months he was going to be a cut. Even a 6/7 pick swap is a cherry.

Obviously the results of tonight don’t matter but they illustrate the why.

I'd just add with respect to the timing there were a few reports/rumors back in the spring he was available.

Like Da Franchise has been laying out, don't think they like him much, just needed to feel good with other options.
 
One thing I will say that is a little suspicious is lets say Washington wants to move Brian Robinson and make JCM/Bill there feature back. Does it make sense to sit Robinson but give JCM/Bill 13 touches or whatever it was he had? Letting him work in the 2nd half? I know he is raw but what if he rolls an ankle, breaks a collarbone? Where is your plan at now?

"The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala reports RB Austin Ekeler remains a “key piece” of the Commanders offense.

As Brian Robinson trade rumors circulate ahead of the regular season, and as rookie RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt gains steam as a potential lead back in the run-first Washington offense, Ekeler, 30, should remain the team’s primary pass-catching backfield option who could cut into Croskey-Merritt’s workload early in the season, along with Chris Rodriguez. Robinson was held out of Monday night’s preseason game against the Bengals. JCM and Rodriguez shined against Cincinnati; the rookie rumbled for 46 yards and a score on 11 attempts. Ekeler in 2024 led the Commanders backfield with 35 receptions for 366 yards. He could have some value in deeper PPR formats this season if Robinson is traded away."
 
It isn't weird that they gave JCM, the 7th round rookie, a bunch of playing time last night. Even if they have big plans for him. Lots of coaches would do that kind of thing with a rookie. He needs run.
