RB Chase Brown, CIN (1 Viewer)

This is bad, very, very bad. Going back to 2000, Chase Brown has the FEWEST rushing yards through 3 games of ANY RB to see 45+ carries

There are some great names on that list & maybe 75% of the names ended up with very good even excellent seasons. But I’d love to see the QBs these RBs were playing alongside. - Taylor has an obstinate refusal to put in extra blockers for the QB. Just give added protection. The QB has to thrive for the RB to thrive. Even so Browning is holding the ball too long.

At one point CIN had the ball on the goal line, Brown was lined up to take the handoff and should've been able to score... and false start.

This offense is toxic for fantasy. Maybe next year Brown will be a bargain but he's sank me in several redrafts this year.

54 catches for 360 yds, not very efficient IMHO
Played at a small high school in Florida as well as Canada, went to Western Michigan, 5th round pick, let's not overhype this guy
He clearly does not ooze talent
TD dependent I would say

He's a "Wagon Queen Family Truckster" and he'll get you from Point A to Point B because he has superior and I mean SUPERIOR talent around him at QB-WR1-WR2
Let's not make it out like Brown is blazing a trail. He does what he's told, he listens to Burrow, he's a take orders type
229 carries for 990 yards

i do not see the raw talent that other RBs bring to the table
You're just hoping he falls into the end zone most weeks
I can respect that but he's about the least talented RB of anyone drafted around him and that's just my opinion

How are we feeling about Brown on TNF?
He is sitting for me, but I think he can have a better day. The schedule finally softens up. Steelers rank in back half of defenses

The last 3 weeks were tough slate: Packers, Lions, Broncos were all top half Ds and also strong.

Sadly tho we have no choice but to be optimists. No one wants him at all.

Little fuzzy math on that though. Steelers are top 10 in rush yards allowed. They've let up only one rush longer than 19 yards the whole season, and that one was... 20 yards. Just held Judkins to his season lows in yards and YPC since he broke out week 2. We are behind only the Broncos in sacks on the year, and top 10 in INTs.

I'm far from a homer fan, if anything I'm tougher on the team than I should be because of my fandom. But they have a stout defense this year, especially against the run. Even our pass defense is at worst average and trending recently in a positive direction.

I've learned division games in the AFC North you can basically throw out the tape because anything can happen; but working with what we've seen out of the Burrow-less Bengals so far this season and from the Steelers defense, it might be a long day for everyone in that offense.

it might be a long day for everyone in that offense.

It should be, given current circumstances. As you say tho, divisional games/the TNF angle kind of can make the metrics moot, but right now the Steelers are just better.

Since Harmon has gotten a full complement of "starter snaps" their run defense has looked a good bit better. Haven't surrendered a rush TD since he came back from injury, and YPC against has went in the proper direction.

Pleeeeeease do something good tonight. Even just a shred of what he was last season. I saw a highlight on Twitter from last year of him sifting through the OL and breaking a 50+ yard TD run. He made it look so easy.
It’s so depressing. Even a shred is all I ask for too. Show us something, anything!

I have an offer out to ship Chase Brown and Tucker Kraft for Brock Bowers in a redraft league where I’m 5-1, and my potential trade partner is seriously considering it, so I might be relieved of half of my CB shares today. Fingers crossed.

That's a really interesting trade offer, that could pay huge dividends.

Thanks. The Bowers owner is 1-5, so it might be a win-win trade.

Is there a lesson to learn here?

-I completely understand why you might want a RB with stud QB and WRs around him, it looked like easy money or free candy for Brown in this offense
No one could predict that Burrow was gonna miss most of the entire season, it hurts all the skill players they have

I don't know if Flacco will fix anything they are doing tonight, we will see.
It's not like the Steelers have never seen Flacco, I would think they are very familiar with him and his tendencies

I'm thinking if he can't manage to show anything by their Week 10 bye, they start mixing Brooks in.
Mixed in a little? Maybe. But everything I've heard the Bengals say, everything in their actions, suggests they don't view Chase Brown as the issue or Brooks as the solution.
Could be something to do with CIN being the worst run blocking team in the NFL? He does need to up his touches to the high teens though. He's only averaging 13 over the last 4 games. He will be on my bench this week, and I have no choice but to hope for the best, because nobody in my league wants him.

It seems like some are doing a victory lap on their opinions that Brown isn't very good. He's getting hit immediately on every carry (1.2 yards before contact). Not sure the best RBs in the game would be doing substantially better behind this line at the moment. And no, I am not suggesting he is an elite NFL talent, but if you are expecting Brooks to do better in this offense at the moment, I think you are going to be disappointed.

Is the line that much worse than last year though?

Sitting him tonight I believe. Gonna just trust either Kendre, Carter, Coker or Spears on Sunday.

Also for Burden, Slayton or Mooney. I just cannot imagine he does absolutely anything against the Steelers.

I don't know to be honest. Brown is getting hit on average, after 1.2 yards this year, last year it was 2.6. I don't think that difference is due to him changing his running style or conditioning. Most of this year is without Burrow, but I acknowledge that Brown was not doing well even when Burrow played, thought that was against a pretty good Browns and Jaguars D respectively.

I would start him over all those choices, but I'm old and bullheaded
Im starting Jamo, JCM, Worthy, and Mason over Brown. But I’m also favored heavily this week, and would prefer to wait to see if Flacco can elevate this offense to the point that Brown gets his mojo back.

If I were going for the ceiling play I might start him over JCM.

Thursday night game is the tiebreaker for me. I have having players on TNF.

I've been lucky enough to have some serviceable options (Hall and Judkins) behind him so he's been on my bench since week 1. As mentioned above it would be really nice to see him do...anything... that might increase his value enough to add him as a filler in a trade at least or to trust him enough when bye weeks hit my RBs in week 9. He's been dead weight so far and here I thought I got a steal in the 3rd of a 10 teamer.

and here I thought I got a steal in the 3rd of a 10 teamer.
To be fair, he was one of Burrow’s 1st looks in the red zone for much of last year. Without Burrow the whole offense has suffered.

What I’m saying is both things can be true. Chase Brown can be a bust this year for lack of quality offense, and he was a steal in the 3rd of a 10-teamer.

Of course so much has to to be determined, but how are we viewing Brown in dynasty? Are we expecting him to bounce back as soon as Burrow is healthy
Still like him a lot in dynasty, especially in a PPR. Guy can catch. Perine is a leech in every offense he's been in though.

I don't see why he doesn't return to his '24 levels in '26 IF Burrow is healthy.

That said....management could get spooked by this year, even with the awful O-line, and draft someone next spring. Brown is a 5th rd pick, Cincy isn't married to him.

Taylor could lose his job, and a new staff says Brown isn't their taste.

Lots of variables, all because Joe can't stay on the field.

They have so many needs to address on D and the OL he’ll probably be safe for the last year of his contract from a major addition but it’s little bit of a worry to me if he does not pick it up.

In general I think he’s an Ok player who was in a great situation. Put another way his situation was greater than his talent. I’ll generally always view those type of players, especially when no financial commitment has been made to them at arguably the most fungible position in the league, as year to year. Or off-season to off-season.

I want to. But he has been awful. And has been losing snaps the past two games. I think I’m just going to Woody marks over him and some other name. Maybe Marv plays and he can slot in. Sitting Brown. Can’t in guillotine though. God help me.
