RB Darrel Williams - Arizona (1 Viewer)

As a Chiefs fan, I'll rightly get accused of drinking the kool-ade here.  Although he's getting in limited practices, with PM likely out Sunday night, this may be Andy's last best chance to get his two best RBs (from this year) on the field.  Even with Watkins back, Moore can't keep up with ARods likely multiple TDs.  If we can't run well between the tackles, hitting the RBs in space has occasionally proven effective and may open up the middle for Moore/Kelce.

I've held Shady through all this, and think if there was ever going to be a perfect storm for Andy to rethink Darrel, vs. GB without PM would be it.

:scared:

Very tempted to cut him for Darrell Henderson or Kenny Stills as one week plays.

I think both of those two are poised for very big games this week (and this week only).

I understand this line of thinking.  Maybe it holds for one week, maybe.

Andy Reid has to run more, right? Yes, but he's been in similar situations many times in the past and he still seems to consistently, and inexplicably, abandon the run.  Sometimes he is too smart for his own good.

If the Chiefs fall behind by seven points at any point, I expect 40 passes for Moore.

If it's successful, maybe an epiphany for Andy?  ;)

I have this awful feeling the minute I cut him his value will rise. When he was called upon he did pretty well.

Damien Williams was cut in my league.
Had that feeling myself when I had to drop him to cover byes.

Fact of the matter is if you can afford to carry any lottery ticket, he might make a good one. If you can't, the one guarantee we will have is that we have no clarity or indication how/if things will change, which makes him droppable for other options.

It's a risk, but one I feel comfortable with. I think there are other lotto tickets with more clarity around their situation if injury strikes (e.g. Armstead, Pollard) and many other backs available in my league that I think can add a more consistent (albeit low) floor that makes them actually usable in flex than simply taking up a roster spot (Samuels, Guice, Hunt, etc.).

I also think that even if one KC RB goes down for the season they will simply integrate Darwin a little more and we will see similar volatility for the remaining RBs that we have seen up to this point.

I thought the same exact thing about last week. Your stud QB goes down and you're blowing out a weak opponent, seemed to be the perfect time to give Darrel a decent workload and see what happens. Instead, the fullback got as many touches as he did after Mahomes left the game (1). Oof.

Iirc, Shady’s pass pro has been criticized before. And by Reid too
I think there have been several deep dives into the theory about pass protection translating more PT and they find no correlation.

The best backs play.

Besides I doubt many (any?) of us have any real idea about the abilities of any KC RB in pass protection.

Well, I haven’t claimed to have an idea about the abilities of the KC RBs on pass pro. Other than what Andy Reid said.

Which is why I typed what I did

I wasn't trying to call you out. You were just responding to what I see as a.common refrain. Your comment illustrates my point. Sorry I wasn't clear about that.

McCoy may not be better at pass pro but he's getting the most opportunities by a good margin because he's their best back.

Good question - perhaps he has an affinity for veterans that are best at protecting Mahomes.
Doesn't seem likely considering Shady isn't good a pass pro, plus there wasn't much protection needed towards the end of that game- they kept running the ball, they just chose to hand it to Shady and a guy with a historically bad ypc over Darrel.

And now Shady is seemingly benched for a fumble and not a single touch after for Darrel while Damien gets 7 carries and the short TD.  :toilet:

Worth waiting a week to see what kind of workload he gets today. Adam Teicher, the Chiefs beat guy, seems to think Reid wants to get Darwin Thompson in the rotation, too.

Well, just added both Darwin and Darrel to the team, cutting MVS who is on bye next week anyway. Two weeks to see if either of them worth holding for rest of season. Now I have to figure out who to put in my FLEX spot today...

Posted this is Shady thread, but reports are that McCoy is on a pre determined rest week.  Don't get too crazy about Darrell long-term.

It could very well be a pre-determined rest week, but his Tweets didn't indicate anything like this.

And it could very well be the Chiefs selling you the Brooklyn Bridge.

I have Golladay, Marvin Jones and Darrel and have to choose 2. In the week 10 FF nexus, I'm starting Golladay and Darrel.

Darrel Williams rushed 11 times for 35 yards and one touchdown in the Chiefs' Week 11 win over the Chargers.

Williams also caught 2-of-3 targets for eight yards, pacing the Chiefs backfield with 13 touches to LeSean McCoy's 11. Damien Williams exited in the second quarter with a ribs injury after rushing four times for seven scoreless yards. Both Darrel and Shady scored rushing touchdowns. Darrel is probably coach Andy Reid's most trusted back, but he is the least skilled despite being able to do everything. This backfield is a weekly mess and will continue to be after the bye when the Raiders come to Arrowhead in Week 13.

He was a waiver wire grab this week on some websites, wasn't sure why. I have owned him since early in the season, as my RB6 at end of the bench he simply isn't hurting me to just hold and see what happens. I still think he is an injury away from seeing real touches as neither of the other 2 can hold up or produce with a bunch of touches, seems like more than 12-15 and they just melt for whatever reason and I'm going only on the way the HC seems to use them...

No reason to cut him at this point.

I think a lot of people are worried about the other Williams rib injury and McCoy getting banged up. If I knew more I’d like to grab him myself. I personally feel like he could be the better back on that team given the opportunity, however with the bye and Damien Williams possibly being healed after the bye I can’t afford the roster space being I play in redraft. I will be following it closely though for the next week.

Damien Williams ruled out.

Picked up McCoy in waivers earlier in the week. Now tempted to pick up Darrel. Would have to drop D. Guice.

Whatever happened to the Kareem Hunt good ole' days where you didn't have to take up 3 roster spots for a Chiefs back?

Tempted to add and start either McCoy or Darrel. Can't believe how bad this situation is for even KC themselves. At this point, this affects team performance. This was a fiasco because Reid should't have been cryptic and just said, "RBBC. Whenever they're out there, they're out there," never mind the cutesy coachspeak about pass pro and the like.

I think these guys are serious groaners when it comes to starting them in your lineup, but OAK is a dream match-up right now.

You mean when everyone was still carrying Knile Davis?  Or when we had to replace Hunt with Spncer Ware and Charcandrick West?

😛

I inow what you mean, but I think KC has had a tricky backfield since Jamal Charles left, outside of one amazing year.

My gut is still telling me Darrell will be on alot of championship rosters.
He's just hanging around, waiting for Reid to acknowledge that he's the best all around back on the team

He could easily be in for a late season explosion.  Especially if the Cheifs realize a lot of their explosive passing game targetted the RB, and they have gone away from that a bit it seems.

I badly need an RB2, so I hope this is true.

Not sure I can start him tomorrow due to the unknown, but would love for him to have a great day and get a majority of the share.
