RB Derrick Henry, BAL (4 Viewers)

God help me. Need to start him at RB2 tonight with Kerryon looking like another no-go and now Duke Johnson showing up on injury report. Can't risk both of them being inactive. Maybe he'll score another TD ..... but I'm guessing 8/17 or something equally facepunch-worthy.

With this guy, much like my TE position, you can only hope for the TD and count that as a win.

@Bri could speak to this better than I, but Vrabel & their OC are full of ####, IMO. They're trying to make Henry someone he isn't. Just because Henry is almost 250 doesn't mean he has to bulldoze people. He's plenty physical in his own way.

When you have a guy that size & has the speed Henry does, let him run the way he does it best. Like I said, he doesn't have to be a battering ram to be effective. Henry has an elite blend of size & speed & is plenty physical enough.

Derrick Henry going 99 yards while stiff-arming people into the sun weeks after everyone who drafted him cut him, traded him or vowed never to start him again is the most Derrick Henry thing ever.

Why has he never been given the opportunity to become the bellcow back?
Because he comes out on passing downs?  Isn't it hard to muster a great year being a 2 down back most of the time?  Or not playing on a series when they know they will be passing?

Good thing I stuck with my “14 strikes and you’re out” policy with Henry.  Almost dropped him for Jeffrey Wilson after not using him the prior 12 weeks.

That isn't because of lack of ability in the passing game. Henry is a very good receiving back as well. The big knock on him has always been that he's built like a brick ####house and plays a third down scat back. Dude thinks he's Dave Meggett.

I don't recall him ever having ability in the passing game, in the NFL or college.  He had 17 receptions in 3 years at Alabama and it's carried over to the NFL as well.  To his credit he did have a high YPC when he did catch the ball in college.

I traded a (now late) 1 for him earlier this year in a dynasty league, and despite the lackluster year (until tonight), I'm still ok w/ that.

I've kept him on my roster in my one redraft as a "nobody better on the ww" backup. I did flirt with starting him over AP earlier today because Sanchez starting makes me think they'll stack the box, but I kept AP, and Henry is exploding on the bench. I hate that feeling, but realistically, I can't fault anyone for not starting him. Just one of those things.

Didn't we expect big things this year?  The big run was great.  Where has he been all year?  He had 6 carries in the first half.
Henry has been the backup. Not much more else needs to be said.

It's about being patient if you own Henry. If the Titans don't want to use him as their feature back, somebody else will.

He catches 76.5% of his passes for 8.2 y/c. And he's probably better than that (80% this year and 86.7% as a rookie last year was way down at 64.7%).

Dion catches 81.6% for 7.7 a pop.

Le'Veon, arguably the best in the biz, has a career 78.6% for 8.5 y/c.

Gurley is @ 74.3% for an insane 11.5 y/c over the last two seasons.

Henry easily has three down ability.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Here is what frustrates me most about magic football. I’m not a big projections guy, matchup guy, etc. I’m an eyeball guy. This guy passes the eyeball test. I held him all year and was frustrated. Coaches wouldn’t use him. Injuries and byes forced me to cut him. As I’m typing this, he bulls his way into the endzone for his third TD. Dumb ### coaches suck. Why do they not see what I see?

Rant over.

Absolutely.

None of that matters if they never utilize him in the passing game.  He won't be a FA until 2020 and by that time he will be 27.  Big backs usually don't age well.
