ESPN's Adam Schefter says one reason the Bucs consider Doug Martin "expendable" is that Charles Sims (ankle) is eligible to come off IR/recall this week.
Schefter reported Sunday morning that teams have already approached the Bucs about Martin ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline. The 25-year-old back was inherited by this Lovie Smith regime, and has been among the league's worst running backs over the last two seasons. Sims, a third-round rookie, is expected to have a major role down the stretch and needs to be owned in 12-team leagues right now.

Hmmm.... Marshawn Lynch lost his job to UDFA Fred Jackson in 2009. I think I rather take the chance on Martin rather than a rookie 5th round pick. They have a very low chance of playing or staying on a roster.

Never mind.The schedule against the run really eases up the next few weeks. Minnesota, Cleveland, Atlanta, Washington, Chicago. Unless TB continues to get blown out (definitely possible) Martin will likely have some nice games during this stretch.
I'm making excuses, but:
They were awful against Carolina and Martin got dinged.
DNP against St. Louis.
DNP against Atlanta.
Decent against Pitt.
Decent against NO and had some big plays overturned by penalty. He would have been well over 100 total yards.
Over 4.0 ypc against Baltimore in an absolute blowout.
I think it's a great time to buy Martin.

Sorry there isn't a running back on their roster that is going to do squat with Mike Glennon at QB. Just watch the f'n game, and you'll see.
I hope, beyond hope Martin gets traded somewhere with a legit QB and oline. Then we will see what he has. TB is almost unwatchable....and it doesn't have anything to do with Martin.

The problem is the O-line. Schiano had built a line to pound the ball, and it worked. Trestman started making personel moves for an offense we never really got to see. Collins is actually worse than Donald Penn. Evan Diedrich Smith isn't an above average center. Dotson seems to have regressed. Logan Mankins has to be MF'ing BB right now.
Glennon isn't to blame for the RBs not having success. He has nothing to do with it. He is a pocket passer without enough time to throw, and without a run game to lean on. It's amazing his giraffe like neck hasn't been broken.

I wouldn't think they would cut him unless he becomes a distraction. His cap number is very friendly, even for a backup.

I can't see anyone anteing up anything close to that. He's running for 2.9 ypc. while Rainey behind the same line is running for 4.6 this year. He hasn't been lights out either but he's outproduced Martin rushing and receiving this year as well as last year.

maybe a 5th or 6th or even an "I'll trade you my trash for yours" type of trade. He had a very good, very high volume rookie year but that was two years ago and counting. Even in that year, he had one game where he ran for 251-4 vs the Raiders. You take that one game from that year and he has 294-1203-7 for a 4.09 (vs. a 4.6 ypc). I know everyone says that you can't discount big games/big plays but with 3 years under his belt, it was clearly an anomoly that gave him much more value that he should have gotten.

Put him behind a good OL and he will flourish. He is talented and is a dual threat. I love his upside. Just needs the right situation

What are the odds he gets dealt? As a Martin owner in both fantasy and the contest, I would love to see it.
I'm not sure it would work out, but it would at least be a breath of fresh air for my hopes that he does something... Anything.

that's funny...ya, he's not saying on which team he should be getting those touches. He's done so well with his sub 3.0 ypc so far this year that we should give him more opportunities. Ridiculous coach speak.

What to do with this guy now that the trade deadline is past? Not producing, eating up a bench spot, Sims may or may not be coming off IR, lots of teams on a bye. He was such a steal in the 4th round.

He's terrible. Don't know what happened, but this guy flat out sucks. Shouldn't been getting any carries anymore. Can't make anyone miss, has no burst and goes down as soon as anyone hits him.

He became bad even before he hurt his shoulder last year. So it's not that...the O line and offense are pretty bad but Rainey (despite the fumbles) and Mike James have been able to put together good games the last two seasons, so that doesn't excuse it all either. It's probably a perfect storm for Martin of average talent, bad line, and poor offensive game planning.

I've been about as hard on Martin as anyone, but even I don't think he just got bad. I think he's still a guy with great measurables and mediocre vision. I just watched all his touches and targets from last week and there simply wasn't much running room for him. When there was, he looked as fast as he ever has. The problem is that this line isn't opening up holes and McCown/Glennon aren't scaring defenses. I wanted to say that if they can't run the ball against Chicago then they just won't be able to run the ball, but Chicago has given up most of its yards in the passing game. They are a decidedly average rushing defense (4.2 ypc). He gets another crack at a similar defense (Cin - 4.3 ypc) this week.
You guys really should be holding out hope that he gets traded to somewhere in the offseason that plans to make him a volume guy again, but if you're still in it this year, it has to be encouraging that he got more carries than Sims and Rainey combined. Aside from one game against the Browns (4.5 ypc - one of the worst run defenses in the league), Rainey hasn't actually done much and Sims was primarily brought in to be a 3rd down guy, right? He might be able to muster together a couple RB2 performances in the remaining games.

Man, Tampa Bay is just messed up. Was just watching the DET game (on Rewind). After Martin gets a couple tough 3 yard runs, and a 9 yard scamper...TB proceeds to throw the next 20+ snaps in a row. This is all while they never trailed by more than 7 pts....in the first half.
Serious, serious issues with their play calling. Couldn't keep McCown upright and keep him from constant pressue in his face. # of screens...one. Number of passes to runs: 39 : 14. TB seriously just bought in whole-heartedly that they would not be able to run the ball...ever. And I honestly think DET knew it

I didn't watch the game but I noticed in McCown prior starts that he almost never checked down to the backs. He preferred to push the ball down the field. Glennon, however, checked down often. I don't think Lovie really has too much input in the offense. His defense has been playing much better lately. Anyway, the man who was supposed to be the OC (Tedford) was recently released from his contract. Marcus Arroyo was thrust into the OC position and he obviously is not qualified for the job. If they can lure a legitimate coordinator to this team the offense could turn around quickly. The potential of a hand picked QB and several weapons on offense should be enticing for some of the greater offensive minds. Hopefully...
