RB Elijah Mitchell, KC (3 Viewers)

Anyone still banking on Jeff

Wilson

taking his snaps?  Lot's of that chatter in here two weeks ago?

I had an offer a couple weeks ago to give up Wilson and I declined.  Really kicking myself on that one today.

Thought for sure Wilson was a thing.

I just cut wilson in one league and he was also cut in my other league.  I think the shine is off.

Where do we rank Elijah Mitchell in dynasty PPR?  I've got him roughly about 13-15th, in a tier with Javonte Williams and Dobbins.

Off the top of my head, I'd rank these guys ahead of him (in no particular order)

  1. Taylor
  2. CMAC
  3. Najeh Harris
  4. Cook
  5. Kamara
  6. Chubb (barely, really not a fan of Chubb's situation)
  7. Swift
  8. Jones
  9. Henry
  10. Ekeler
  11. Barkley
  12. Mixon
Going forward I would rank Mitchell ahead of ...

  1. Elliott - the trend downward is pretty clear I think.
  2. Jacobs
  3. Hunt
  4. Montgomery
  5. Damien Harris
  6. Gaskin
  7. Robinson (and Etienne too)
  8. Edwards-Helaire
  9. Gordon
  10. Fournette
  11. Henderson (and Akers too)
  12. Conner
For completeness, I have fuzzy rankings on the following:

  1. Pollard - pretty high on this guy, just not sure if he will develop into a touch monster
  2. Rhamondre Stevenson - all the usual concerns about NE backs and consistency, but high on nonetheless
  3. Dillon - Feels like he'll have to wait a couple of years, a la Michael Turner

It's an interesting process. Thanks for sharing.

I guess the doubt around him is still the SF system and situation. But he looks much better than a 6th rounder.

I would rank Javonte Williams ahead of him because I think he is even more talented and once Gordon leaves he will dominate.

I feel fairly confident that Mitchell will project out to be the SF bellcow next year and  I'd be very surprised if SF spent any significant draft capital on another RB in 2022.  If Mostert comes back healthy, he would be an excellent change of pace back (and it's a role that suits him best, given his propensity to get banged up) and that backfield could be very scary, especially if Lance draws a lot of attention.

Elijah Mithcell is in the league's concussion protocol.

Mitchell played a season-high 84% of the snaps in the Week 13 loss to the Seahawks, handling 25 touches for 84 yards and one touchdown. He briefly exited against Seattle but was cleared to return. Mitchell reported symptoms Monday and is now in the protocol. This will likely go up until the weekend before we know if Mitchell will be available against the Bengals in Week 14. JaMycal Hasty and Jeff Wilson are up next for the Niners with Trey Sermon (ankle) also hurt.

Elijah Mitchell underwent an MRI on his knee this week and is also dealing with “irritation” there in conjunction with his concussion.

It doesn’t sound great, but the 49ers remain hopeful Mitchell is cleared for Week 14 against the Bengals. Mitchell didn’t practice Wednesday, but it sounds like the concussion is more of the concern here. The knee thing is at least worth noting. JaMycal Hasty is the Niners’ lone healthy back right now.

Elijah Mitchell (concussion/knee) was not at the portion of practice open to the media on Thursday.

It seems quite unlikely that Mitchell will actually play as he's dealing with two different injuries, but the 49ers haven't given up on him yet this week. This will likely go down as a DNP. This'll be a major fantasy injury to check in on Friday, but clearing the protocol enough to be on the field in some capacity today would've been optimal for managers depending on Mitchell. JaMycal Hasty and Jeff Wilson (knee) are the backups to roster, with Hasty being the only back who we know is healthy at this moment.

Elijah Mitchell (concussion/knee) was working on the side during the portion of the 49ers practice open to the media on Thursday.

Mitchell did not practice on Wednesday. It seems likely that this will either go down as a DNP or, at best, a limited. Barring something magical on Friday, this certainly feels like Mitchell is going to the pessimistic side of questionable. That would likely set up Jeff Wilson as the lead back for San Francisco's Week 15 matchup against Atlanta.

Elijah Mitchell (concussion, knee) was officially listed as "DNP" for Thursday's practice.

Mitchell reportedly worked off to the side on Thursday, but he did not do enough to earn a "limited" tag. Although a Friday return would give Mitchell a shot at suiting up, fantasy managers are best left assuming it will be the Jeff Wilson and Deebo Samuel show in the Niners' backfield for another week.

Elijah Mitchell (concussion, knee) won't play in Week 15 against the Falcons.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said he's also "not optimistic" that Mitchell, who's dealing with swelling in his knee, will be able to return in Week 16 against the Titans. Jeff Wilson rushed 13 times in place of Mitchell against the Bengals and will continue to do so alongside Deebo Samuel as the team's two "running backs" until Mitchell returns.

Wilson all the way, he's just getting into gear

100 and two TD sunday

Admittedly, that's possible. He had 2 or 3 huge fantasy games last season down the stretch....just a very tough guy to trust.

After all, he's averaging just 3.2 ypc this season, Deebo is toting the rock, and (surprisingly) Atlanta hasn't allowed a 100-yard rusher all season.

What is it with Shanahan family running backs over the years. Seriously. Good luck figuring this one out. Wilson could get 200/2 this week or Deebo or Aiyuk could be the leading rusher.

This dude has not scored a TD all year. If he gets 1 thats a shock in itself.

Also, the love to run, just not when they dont have Elijah. Wilson was the guy who stole everyones carries last year.

Vegas player props have Wilson better than 50/50 to score.

Elijah Mitchell has cleared concussion protocol but is still dealing with a knee injury.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has already said that he isn't optimistic about Mitchell playing in Week 16. Despite getting past the concussion, Mitchell's recovery from the knee injury has come along slowly. In his absence, Jeff Wilson has handled most of San Franciso's work between the tackles. Wilson rushed 21 times for 110 yards and a touchdown last week. Assuming he starts in Week 16, he'll clock in as an RB2 versus the Titans.

49ers general manager John Lynch said Elijah Mitchell (knee) will be a game-time decision in Week 16 against the Titans.

Lynch said Mitchell's knee issue had taken a "positive turn," giving him a chance to suit up against Tennessee on Thursday night. Mitchell cleared the NFL's concussion protocol this week but is still dealing with the knee injury he suffered in Week 13 against Seattle. Before the injuries, Mitchell had functioned as the workhorse in Kyle Shanahan's offense, with back-to-back 27-carry efforts. If the team wants to ease the rookie into his every-down role, Mitchell could split time with the resurgent Jeff Wilson if he's active for Thursday night.

Elijah Mitchell (knee) is out for Week 16 against the Titans Thursday night.

Mitchell will miss his third straight game, giving Jeff Wilson another start in the backfield after going over 100 yards with a touchdown against the Falcons last Sunday as the week's overall RB3 in fantasy. Deebo Samuel will also stay involved as a runner with 33 carries and six rushing scores over the last five weeks.

San Francisco backs last about four games apiece. The continued thumping on toss sweeps just seems to be even more akin to a car wreck than most collisions on the football field.

I know I'm not a doctor. I know it's unsubstantiated, but have you watched the train wreck hits that happen to these guys when they break a little bit free? It's like a punt returner getting mauled.

No wonder they don't last.

Starting him, but dont feel great about it.  I have limited options and with guys popping up daily on the covid list, i am starting guys i know are playing.
This is something to strongly consider. For me I have Kamara going Monday and Siemian along with 6 others just tested positive for covid. Might play Wilson now and that way come Sunday I’m not scrambling to replace Kamara if he pops positive. At least we know Jeff will get touches, and at worst I sit Sony to play Kamara if he makes it through the week.

I don’t but I may play him anyway.
Same. I’m worried someone like Kamara might end up on the COVID list later in the week and screw people…the logic of starting the guys you know are gonna play while you can makes sense to a degree

Bumpity Bump.

Thoughts on starting him if he's active?

I don't feel good about it.  But at Flex, it's going to be between Mitchell, CEH (seems like he's probably going to miss), and Rex Burkhead.

If Mitchell is active for the Houston game then I expect him to play quite a bit, be the feature back until things are rolling for San Fran, assuming they do. As a Jeff Wilson holder in a few leagues this weekend I would bench him immediately if Mitchell is active so that tells you what I feel for Mitchell.

If San Fran holds Mitchell out 1 more week and gambles they can knock off Houston with anyone they want at RB, then I would want to try and think about starting Wilson but otherwise it's the Elijah Mitchell show and has been all year when he's healthy.

Wilson owner as well,  assuming lance starts that will take away carries from any running back.  Lance had 17 carries in his only start and Mitchell had just 11.

I grabbed Lance off waivers and typically start Stafford who I understand is going against a Defense that just got roasted for 500 yds, there's this thing called professional pride and I just don't see the same repeat this week with the Rams coming in Coast to Coast on Back to Back road trips, i think the Rams will be fortunate to win on Sunday and if they do, it will be close IMHO.

I like Lance tomorrow but he also hasn't done terrific to this point and could easily not be overly involved with SF moving thru their RBs and TE more, maybe he can put up 200 pass, 50 rush but the TDs is what scares me some. Not sure how that works when he gets them near the goal line.

Good stuff, cheers!

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Elijah Mitchell (knee) is expected to play in Week 17 against the Texans.

Mitchell hasn't played since suffering a knee injury and a concussion in Week 13. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan sounded optimistic that he would return this week, noting, "We’ll play Elijah as much as he can handle," in his return. Expect a hefty workload for the rookie. He gets an awesome matchup with the Texans and projects for high-end RB2 numbers this week.

Just to be clear I am rolling him out there almost everywhere. But Shanny *is* going to screw everyone today, we all agree on that no?

I think there’s three bad scenarios

1) time share with Wilson as they ease him back

2) as mentioned above last game lance started the starting rb only had 11 carries

3) shanny messes with us.

I expect 1 and 2 at a minimum.  Prediction for me is 10 carries, 45 yards and 50% chance of TD.
