RB Giovani Bernard, TB (2 Viewers)

Despite all of the excitement last week, I'm not exactly giddy thinking about his matchup at Baltimore this week. His ribs are banged up, the Ravens need a win desperately, they have the #7 rush defense and they have only given up one rushing TD all year. This one looks like a stinker for Gio.
You know, I've been thinking about this. The very reason I was scared about using Gio (Baltimore's excellent rushing defense) is the very reason we SHOULD use him. Law Firm's typical 1.8 YPC should amount to about 5 inches per carry against the Ravens. So if you are Jay Gruden, do you keep banging your head against a brick wall in the run game, or do you find another way to get production from the RB position? Dump-offs and screen passes... that's how a RB will be effective against Baltimore, and it ain't gonna be BJGE on the receiving end. Gio could have a nice day as a receiver.

I just wish we knew that the ribs weren't going to limit him too much. :( If he takes a shot early and leaves the game, we are screwed.
same reasoning when he played the jets?

I dunno man, I'm doing my best here trying to convince myself to start him.

Just saw a report on NFL network that Bernard will play today. They kicked off "GameDay First" with the news.

Despite RN's excellent reasoning why a bad matchup is actually a good thing for Bernard, I'm benching him today for Rashad Jennings, even though I'm starting the Giants DST with confidence. It's all about touches, same way we rate WR's on targets. And Jennings has proven to stay active even in on the all important garbage time. Bernard just too risky hoping he gets you your points on 10-12 touches. I felt the same way last week and missed out on Bernard's 26 pt game. Had him in my starting lineup all week, but can't seem to convince myself to keep him there.

Benching him for Ellington mostly because of the ribs, and the matchup just tips the balance. It was close.
Doing the exact same thing. Ellington being healthy versus Gio being banged up when both have coaches that are hesitant to feed them makes me more wary of Gio.

Trying to decide between him and L. Bell this week. I'm the underdog so I'm really tempted to go for broke and plug Bernard in.

Just saw on NFL network he is good to go, and the coach said he has earned more touches.

Also very windy by the looks of things.

Have him for 10 bucks/5 years in my salary cap (250 cap) league that requires 2 RBs. He's my no.1 overall player in that league.

With the Bengals about to lose their second straight, maybe Marvin starts to tip the RB touch scale even more to Gio. This team needs a spark that Gio can provide.

8 catches today any good? :excited:

PPR gold.

yeah with the bengals down big the whole game gio was in there a ton. Id venture to guess this was his highest snap count of the year

Gio running very well but they get to the 1 yard line and roll out BGE twice. Frustrating as Gio has already proven this year he has no problems with short conversions at the stripe. Coulda had well over 80 yards and 2 scores already.

I want to punch Gruden right in the vag.

1st & goal when BJGE is in.... (TWICE!)... handoff, TD!

1st & goal when Gio is in... play-action pass, TD.

DIAF!!!!

With Peterson hurt, I'm probably going to be forced to start Bernard (non-PPR). I guess any shot of getting a touchdown would be if he breaks a long one. Is Bernard getting any short yardage touches these days?

Not from what I've seen. The coaching staff must have found the John Fox-Carolina Panthers playbook on rookie RBs.

Chapter 1. No matter how much better your rookie RB is, always use your plodder near the GL.

Well I've continued my amazing streak of always playing him when he does #### all, and benching him when he does better. At least on some of those benched weeks, my 3 others RBs outscored him anyway.

Trying to work out when to play Gio is like trying to solve a rubics cube on acid.

He's only worthwhile if your in a position where he's plugged in to your team every week and you don't miss the good ones

Which is just dumb coaching. Anyone who watched him convert in pre-season several times, not to mention a monumental effort to convert from the 1 yard line against the Packers early in the season, could not argue that the guy is effective at the stripe. Sucks, he coulda had one hell of a season, still has had a good one though.

He does seem to be a good runner at the stripe, but seems like Marvin likes to use the battering ram BJGE there. Guess you can't blame him since they have options, and likely wants to keep Gio healthy if they want to make a deep playoff run.

Gio was on the field at the stripe once last week, although Dalton faked a play action to him and threw a TD to Gresham (?).

In ppr, he is a nice flex/ rb 2 for sure. In 13 weeks there have been one amazing week (25 plus), 5 good weeks (15 plus), 3 o.k weeks (10 plus), and 4 clunkers (under 10). Overall, he is the 12th best rb in my league and is pretty consistent.

Some of you guys are talking like it is a total crapshoot as to whether or not he will score any points from week to week. Next year, you can probably bet that BGE will be more of a change up back than a split and Bernard will be a total stud.

Decision between Gio, Tate or Stacy this week. Probably go with Gio but it's close.

Gio will be fine based on volume alone. I'd be surprised if he doesn't break a rushing or receiving TD from outside the red zone in one of the next two weeks. As for the lack of goal-line touches, it is what it is, as they say. No use getting angry about it.

Which supports my theory that a lot of these ham and egger coaches would be teaching HS Phys' Ed. if they weren't sucking up to someone and bouncing around the league every time they get fired.

Even worse than this is watching Drops His Balls enter an NFL playing field weekly. You would be hard pressed to find a WR with less ability to catch a football. Yet he still gets an NFL football thrown at him. Do these guys just cringe and think, 'gawd I hope he catches this pass'? If I was running that show and the guy was on the team when I arrived, the 1st order of business would be 'get the #### out DHB'.

Am I wrong to be warming up to the idea of starting Gio over guys like Sproles and Hartline at flex this week due to Law Firm's illness? Even if he plays, I'd think Gio sees an uptick in snaps....
