I see it's peak rookie hype time around the NFL. Calvin Austin, George Pickens,Isiah P, Isiah Likely, etc.

I took Pacheco in round 17 in a redraft the other day where I went zero RB and instantly regretted it. Was also burned on Darwin Thompson hype. Fool me twice.

Pickens on the other hand, I'm all over his ADP of WR 60-70 and would even reach higher. We'll see how things shake out, but based on his college resume and training camp eyeball test, I personally don't see why he isn't being drafted where Burks, Olave and Wilson are going. Pickens only has to be better than Chase Claypool to have a massive return on his ADP. Seems possible, if not probable.

At the risk of continuing to anger CEH and Jones' backers, I just don't really see a daunting depth chart. I have no idea if he's going high in redraft. If he is I'll laugh along, but he's a very cheap potential productive RB. Of course I could be dropping him 5 times in late October as well.

Yep - saw he’s running with the 2nds and 3rds.

But then, this is Andy Reid we’re talking about. Dude could pull a rabbit out of his hat at any time.

IMO much will depend on how various players perform in actual game action. CEH has been hurt (shocking, I realize) and I doubt McKinnon sees the field much. So they’ll probably get RoJo & Pacheco out there in preseason games to properly evaluate. Pacheco brings ST to the table, which reportedly gives him an edge. But there’s a lot to be said for vision & performance, and the Chiefs need a strong between the tackles rusher more than they need Pacheco on ST. They have other players who can fill in there.

It’ll be interesting to monitor. Glad I have both.

Ps - I think they’d be more likely to trade RoJo than cut him.

Not angered in the slightest. I snagged Pacheco so I’m not really invested in one or the other, other than potentially being let down by RoJo once again in a long history of being let down by RoJo. But I’m used to it by now.

I just hope it works out that I have a piece of the future KC backfield. My team with them is a full rebuild anyway, so getting a piece for 2023 or being able to trade one of them is very appealing.

Honestly that was my hope since the day they signed RoJo. Alas, trade value rooned.

Agree with pretty much all of this.

Price is the key. Thompson's hype led to a crazy price tag, and now he's not on anyone's dynasty roster.
If you're geting Pacheco in the 4th round of your rookie draft--nothing lost.

The more I watch of his tape the more intrigued I am. First the guy appears to be giving 110% on every run. He also looks like he is running as fast as he possibly can as soon as he touches the ball. Really violent running style. At first I didn’t think he had any lateral agility but I just think it was because the guy is running like his hair is on fire. Check out his tape if you haven’t, really unique. He does show the ability to cut a bit and not lose speed. I am intrigued and will be very interested if KC dumps Rojo. Pacheco has home run ability but his skills are tough to diagnose because his oline at Rutgers was extremely overmatched. That being said the guy looked like he battled like a warrior with every carry even though his team was getting bludgeoned half the time. Listening to interviews with him he seems like a good kid, hard worker, and as he put it “I am ready to go take a grown man’s job.” I have a share and am excited to see him on the field. In his interview he also mentions how he is looking forward to running behind an NFL line. This may be a case where a talented college player is hidden by poor surrounding talent. Should be fun to see how this plays out.

I agree they're not the same player.

Thompson hype train had him up to the end of the 1st/early 2nd round in rookie drafts. And me being desperate for a RB2 fell for it. Lesson learned in the hardest way.

As long as Pacheco isn't going around the same, we're good. If the hype continues to grow and he's going late 1st/early 2nd like Thompson--well then he's suddenly much less interesting. As long as he's cheap, I'll take my shot.

The Chiefs have a great offense but trash at the RB position…I’ll take a free lottery ticket for a high upside guy on one of the best offenses with my last roster spot every day, all day. To be fair

Draft capital matters. Pacheco was a 7th rounder. Thompson a 6th rounder. I'm sure you can't say a 6th rounder in 2018 is better than a 7th rounder in 2022. It's certainly reasonable to say we should be cautiously optimistic with guys drafted so late.

The Darwin discussion isn't "Darwin failed, so Pacheco probably will too."

It's "People were spending a late 1st/early 2nd round rookie pick on a guy with Day 3 draft capital and got burnt." If Pacheco goes in the 4th or even 3rd--worth a pick. If we get to a similar point to the Darwin Thompson hype where the cost is a 1st or even early 2nd round pick--probably best to pump the brakes.

Can he have a significant role in the offense and help your fantasy team? Quite possibly. But if you have to bet your 1st round rookie pick on it, you're more likely to lose on that gamble than not.

It did seem like CEH got the start, but Pacheco was in on that first drive as well. I’m just glad my rookie drafts were back in May!

I don’t think I can do that 12th round ADP in redraft right now. That is pretty rich, lots of quality still available.

I think CEH was in there at first. They took out the rest of the 1's and kept Pacheco out there.
I think he's ahead of everyone not named CEH. And that's not a huge mountain to climb.

Yeah, that tells me a lot as a Chiefs fan. We will see what happens the next couple of preseason games. I did chuckle a bit when he showed by wearing the #10.

Don't get me wrong, i am still rooting for him after i have him in multiple dynasty leagues, however i was hoping to back up CEH after i drafted CEH in the 8th. I do not like CEH, however he fell and i needed a RB.

I was expecting to get Pacheco in the 15th/16th rounds, but no bueno.

That’s where I’m at. I think CEH is being drafted at value. I just don’t think he’s very good or very likely to stay healthy.

If that hunch pays off, Pacheco in the 12th or later is a nice lottery ticket.

If this trend continues - it’s still a few weeks to find out.

Pretty much this. I heard his name come up twice on 2 different fantasy shows yesterday and today, and was NFL Network's Fantasy show yesterday.
Everybody is gonna know about him come end of August.

Well worth the gamble if he hits.

And with CEH being meh, I could see a scenario where Pacheco is even more relevant in 2023. To me, that’s where the gamble pays off. Redraft 2022 he has a little less of a chance at relevance.

But the future is pretty open considering McKinnon’s age & RoJo’s 1 year contract.

Pachinko I am definitely targeting as a double digit round lottery pick for 2022. But it's also important to note that McKinnon (my other late round KC RB flyer) and RoJo are also on the roster and the Chiefs haven't had a fantasy relevant RB since Kareem Hunt. Unless someone truly explodes I wouldn't expect much from any of them in 2022.

I don’t downgrade the kid for enjoying the moment, he has been through a lot in life. With that being said I was always a big fan of Barry handing the ball to the ref after scoring. The older I get I do have to remind myself these are kids playing a game at times.

That's not uncommon in Chiefs training camp. If you had the sound turned up they play music at camp during the drills and do everything at a fast tempo. And there are typically A LOT of fans at each session. So the players will do this on a regular basis. The coaches don't seem to mind and Reid always wants his players to have fun and express themselves as long as the work is being done.
