I had a lot of success rolling out Swift & Jamaal together last year.I have Montgomery in two redraft leagues and Gibbs in my dynasty league(full PPR) and I’ll be starting both with confidence this week.

Lions.com’s Tim Twentyman believes Jahmyr Gibbs could function as the team’s primary downfield pass-catching threat.
With no Jameson Williams (suspension) and DJ Chark signing with Carolina this offseason, Detroit comes into 2023 without a clear-cut deep ball threat. Per Twentyman, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson “said vertical threats don’t have to be receivers so that’s one thing to watch out for with Gibbs.” Twentyman said Gibbs, the Lions’ first round pick, “made a ton of catches down the field in training camp and I think that’s something we could see that is a little unconventional from other pass-catching backs around the league.” It would be quite unique for a running back to serve as a team’s downfield pass catcher, and it wouldn’t necessarily be good for Gibbs’ fantasy prospects. Both Gibbs and backfield mate David Montgomery should be started in 12-team leagues this week against the Chiefs.
I am confused why is this not a good thing??Lions.com’s Tim Twentyman believes Jahmyr Gibbs could function as the team’s primary downfield pass-catching threat.

Deep balls are low percentage plays that are often more decoy routes than anything. Depending on how often they deploy him that way it may also lead to a few more plays off for recovery.I am confused why is this not a good thing??Lions.com’s Tim Twentyman believes Jahmyr Gibbs could function as the team’s primary downfield pass-catching threat.

We know he is going to get plenty of RB screens, dump offs and he is great after the catch. Why would him not catching deep balls for 50+ yard gains occasionally be bad for his fantasy football stats?
But imagine how pumped Gibbs owners will be when he catches a 50yard TD on a fly route in the 4th quarter after he’s already put up a 100 yards rushing/1td/5 catches stat line. Kalif Raymond will never be matched up against a LBOK but you guys know Tim Twentyman is a dweeb, right?
TT works for the Lions. His podcast is based in Allen Park. They may indeed send Gibbs on some 9 routes - he’s spent a lot of time in TC working with the WRs - so it would make sense to utilize a guy with 4.36 speed.
You might want to also consider the Lions already have a WR with 4.34 speed [in Kalif Raymond] who has caught 95 balls from Goff the last 2 seasons. Sort of like Watkins for Philly, he’ll see 1-2 deep balls a week even though they have bigger stars.
Marshall Faulk had the backfield all to himself, the focal point of a talentless offense. In that debut game, he had 50% more touches than the rest of the team combined. Gibbs will share the backfield on a loaded offense. Great as he may become, there's a lot of good mouths to feed. His rb archetype, Marshall Faulk, went off on his rookie debut. Want to see where he is listed in the official depth chart tomorrow .
If he runs good between the tackles, there is no incentive to play Monty at all. If he bombs between the tackles, he may not get a second or third carry. That’s how Dan Campbell is (unless Monty ****s the bed as well)Marshall Faulk had the backfield all to himself, the focal point of a talentless offense. For sure, he’ll certainly get a longer leash but when push comes to shove, the guy who will get the ball in key situations will be the guy that’s going to give them the best chance of success. Jordan Howard sheds a tear
I’m bullish on the team. They’ve got some high end talent on both sides of the ball and if Jameson can actually contribute on the field like it looked he could in college….lookout.I'm fairly bullish on both Lion RBs this year. Lions ranked #11 in rushing last year with virtually none coming from the QB position. And just my opinion but Gibbs/Monty > Swift/Williams. Add in that the OL is as healthy as it's been in over a year.
I'm a Bears fan and would say that David Montgomery is very mid.I'm an excited Gibbs owner but also a Bears fan and David Montgomery is criminally underrated. He is going to be a big part of this offense. He's a beast to bring down, almost never goes down on first contact and he's a terrific receiver. Gibbs owners should not look past him.

I think it's probably somewhere between these two. Montgomery is a very solid player and is never going to hurt you, but he isn't winning the game either. Also, he couldn't beat out a healthy Herbert.I'm a Bears fan and would say that David Montgomery is very mid.I'm an excited Gibbs owner but also a Bears fan and David Montgomery is criminally underrated. The Lions offense is loaded but it's almost exclusive on the offensive line. Beyond that it's ARSB and...?Gibbs will share the backfield on a loaded offense. Great as he may become, there's a lot of good mouths to feed.
Monty is actually a good receiver. He has 25, 54, 42 & 34 receptions 80% catch rate & 8 ypr on some bad teams with bad offensive lines and bad QBs.Monty doesn't gain chunks and isn't a great receiver.
You really needed you watch him weekly to appreciate him, especially as a receiver. Those teams he played with were absolutely awful too.Monty is actually a good receiver. Dude is underrated.
Shut up Dan Campbell! What do you know?!?!?Told the Detroit media this week his goals for the season are 1000 yards rushing & 500 receiving
Dan Campbell said they’re going to give him the ball and they love his versatility. But he is more concerned that the core four (Gibbs, Jack Campbell, LaPorta, and Branch) are showing growth over the season; the goal is to have them peak at the end of the year. He doesn’t want to overload Gibbs or any of the rookies playing their first NFL game in Arrowhead.
Same...Don't know how I ended up with the all rookie starting backfield of Bijan and Gibbs but, giddy up!
Ha, got the same yesterday and not sad about it.Don't know how I ended up with the all rookie starting backfield of Bijan and Gibbs but, giddy up!
not sure why you or anyone would ever even glance at an nfl . com fantasy ranking.Check out the gap in these projections:
NFL Fantasy - 20 rush, 0.6/4 rec, 0.2 TDs - 4.2 points (PPR) = RB57
Fantasy Pros - 45 rush, 3/26 rec, 0.7 TDs - 13.4 points (PPR) = RB13
Good point, but it is our hosting site, so they come up automatically. It just is cracking me up as I feel like I am a slight underdog this week, but it has me losing like 130-108. Most other projections have me around 122-128. Gibbs is the biggest gap there.not sure why you or anyone would ever even glance at an nfl . com fantasy ranking.Check out the gap in these projections:

I hear you. But NFL draft capital matters. As someone who owned Swift last year and bought into the hype I totally avoided Gibbs this year. It may very well be different but I got tired of watching the Lions rotate 3 running backs and Williams was always the goal line back. Maybe that role goes to Montgomery now? Good luck to you that drafted him but 3rd round price eas too steep for me.
