RB Jahmyr Gibbs, DET (2 Viewers)

This guy gets the ball, gets any sort of momentum and the entire stadium just gasps. He's a threat to hit a home run every time. Exciting stuff.

20+ fantasy points in 3-straight games of varying scripts.

As I said before... Jamaal Charles 2.0

Good comparison.

He's a guy that when be catches the ball and gets a little momentum it feels like he could break it ANY TIME. I've got to think if my opponent was watching Gibbs they were terrified.

Sky is the limit.

The next two matchups (CHI, GB) are delish. Both of them are going to eat.

Weeks ago I said get Gibby some screen passes and sweeps to the outside. Get him in space, give him room and see what he can do.

Lions did none of that his first few games and it was difficult to actually tell what he was all about.

In terms of the 2 RBs the best thing the Lions did was trade back out of 6 and in addition to getting Gibbs they used the extra pick to get LaPorta.

We would not be 7-2 without those two. Our offense is set for the next 4-5 years once we extend Goff, ARSB and Penei. Next year our first four picks will all be DL, OL, and CB. We are set at all skill positions and LB.

I couldn’t sit Gibbs against the Bears though. No idea if Fields is starting, but this game could be fantasy gold like the Charger game was.

So next week do you start Gibbs or Monty in a 3 team non-ppr Guillotine league where you also have ASB?

Someone made a good point above about Monty facing his old team.

In DFS Pollard, Barkly, Hall, Cook, every guy in the league named Ty returned better value. Probably a worse case scenario where both Money and Gibbs are priced based on peak value earlier in the year and both are doing well enough their prices stick.

I think Monty will be the week to week better play but Gibbs will have spike weeks when he goes off

Last week Gibbs had 17 touches for 112 and two TDs, both from one yard. Montgomery had 12 touches for 116 and a TD.

Today both of them had 14 touches for just under 100 yards each and both had a short TD run. Mind you the Lions only had the ball for 19 minutes.

I don't think it's going to change.

Gibbs nearly had two TDs. Took a 6 yard carry down to the one, Monty punched it in.

The best part about that run was Gibbs ran it hard up the middle, lowered his shoulder and almost scored because of it.

I am not sure who the Lions play next week. I would defer to those guys who know the ins and outs and what have yous more.

All 3 seem like good plays.

As someone who has started both of them the last two weeks, I say good to that.

A date with the GB run D on Thanksgiving at home is going to be a great way to start the holiday.

Since Week 7, among RBs Jahmyr Gibbs is:
  • 4th in rushing yards
  • 2nd YPC (Warren)
  • 5 TDs T2nd
  • 23 receptions 3rd
  • Receiving Yard 4th
  • Receiving first downs T1st
  • Finished RB3, RB1, RB2, RB3 for the 4 weeks he played (bye week in the middle)

If we had to draft all over again in PPR, where would Bijan vs. Gibbs be?

Hmmmm.

It's interesting how Gibbs did not take over Monty's role - though he did well in his three solo starts - nor did Montgomery's presence hinder the rookies development. They have very complimentary roles, but not so distinct it makes it easy for defensive coordinators to scheme. Jahyr is thought to be the splash play home run htter, but just last week David had a 75 yarder. The primary role for Gibbs is as the pass catching back, but Monty had two chunk receptions in the game winning drive yesterday. We think of Monty as being the GL back, but Gibby has almost an even split in RZ carries since the veteran came back from his rib injury.

It's one of those rare situation where it isn't either or, it is totally and. Start both if you are lucky enough to roster both, and start either one knowing the pie is big enough for both backs to be fantasy relevant.

Yeah I have found that interesting as well, how they have been defying the expected "thunder and lightning" identities. Not defying to the contrary, but defying to the somewhat neutral.

I would describe it as a Thunder and Lightning backfield, but the Thunder has some Lightning in him and the Lightning has some Thunder in him. Both are good enough and versatile enought to be featured backs.

I actually like Gibbs slightly better as a goal line back because I think speed is under appreciated in that role, but that will never become a popular opinion. I think Dan Campbell/Ben Johnson will continue to use the backs somewhat interchangeably with significant favoritism given to Gibbs in the passing game and slight fsvoritism given to Monty in the short yardage plays. Otherwise the series will be evenly split and the overall touches will be essentially equal. The coaching staff absolutely loves both of these guys.

I love a good outside run or little pass to a fast RB in the flat at the goal line ... They have all the way to the sideline to try to get that corner.
