RB Javonte Williams, DAL (5 Viewers)

Javonte Williams rushed 15 times for 54 yards and two touchdowns in the Cowboys’ Week 1 win over the Eagles, adding two receptions for 10 yards.

Williams capped each of the Cowboys’ first two drives with one-yard scoring plunges. That’s good work if you can get it. If you include passing touchdowns, it was just the third two-score effort of Williams’ checkered career. Williams did not look explosive between the tackles, but he dominated snaps and touches, a trend that will undoubtedly continue for Week 2 after Miles Sanders lost a red zone fumble this evening. That being said, we would expect rookie Jaydon Blue to make his NFL debut against the Giants after he was a “healthy scratch” this evening. Blue missed most of training camp with injury. Despite tonight’s (expected) heavy workload, Williams is still more of a FLEX than RB2 for fantasy purposes.

Nice headline lol

Oof. That hurts.

Honestly Najee Harris seems like the ceiling here which isn’t a a bad thing. Volume rb2/flex and he probably made the rb2 you drafted with higher name recognition more tradable.

He's the only show in town, the Cowboys are probably a better team than people suspected they might be, defences will be kept honest by the quality of the receiving talent, he is the short yardage back and his QB doesn't seem to have much appetite to run the ball himself anymore.
Too early to say, but I think this is fair assuming the Cowboys D can keep them in games. Very possible that they won't be as pass happy as expected due to offensive philosophy and game scripts. Sanders is probably not going to be a big part of the running game, so it's going to be Javonte and Blue (who has some ground to make up).

Not just that, but aspect of his game that kept him on the field with DEN under Payton was pass pro.

Given what the Cowboys are without Dak, not to mention how much $$ he is, his role seems pretty secure.

Good point - he’s regarded as one of the best in the business in pass pro. That’s going to get him on the field a lot.

Two weeks ago I was offered Javonte/Blue for Charbs. I expect big things for Charbs. I wonder if the offer would still be available.

Relying on Javonte Williams to plod his way to two trips to the endzone on a weekly basis is going to be a recipe for disaster.

The RB play last night said more to me about the opportunity awaiting Jaydon Blue than it did about any comeback for Javonte Williams or Miles Sanders (if they even let him on the plane last night to come back to Dallas).

Two plays last night that could have gone for TD's - Miles Sanders large run leading up to his fumble and Javonte Williams off-tackle run for 1 yard that could have been a gamebreaker if he had any amount of gas in those legs. Williams will get the goalline work but I don't see how you watched the game last night and thought, "He should get the ball more".

Mafah or Blue time for me.

I don't see how you watched the game last night and thought, "He should get the ball more".
He doesn't have to get the ball more to be a FF asset. I was surprised he was used like he was and more-so that Dallas offense looked solid against a good defense. While I don't think Williams has much in the tank he is in a great situation and will get opportunities to help your FF team this year.

He's a flex play. Everyone knows it, maybe you need him as an RB2 in deeper leagues, but we all knew what we were drafting taking him as our RB3 essentially.

A good flex option, one who can get you nearly 20 points vs any opposition (as shown last night) if things fall right for them is a useful asset.

Yeah, that is fair - he had a pretty low investment cost too but I am just recommending a solid exit strategy.

The staff has to be hoping one of these 2 RB's they drafted this year can provide more juice than Williams.

Already an empty tank at 25? Man, we getting earlier and earlier on the drop off age. Ha ha
Due to injury.....not age. He just doesn't seem to have any burst and the knee injury was a lot worse than "just an ACL" and it appears it has really diminished his burst.

Even taking the fantasy points out he looked a lot less ploddery than I was expecting, even as someone who has said he was good value at his price this offseason.

The notable play to me was a nothing play in the context of the game. In the 4th quarter he caught a pass where he was coming back to the ball, kind of jumping back towards the LoS as he caught it. As he landed he planted hard and burst upfield, catching the defender offguard with how quickly he changed direction.

I feel like we haven't seen Javonte do that kind of thing in a while. Maybe he's finally getting far enough from the injuries? I am still skeptical on how long it will last, but Link

An underrated point. If I recall both of the big Ceedee drops (well, last one was less of a drop) were on plays where Philly brought pressure and Javonte picked it up, allowing Dak to push the ball downfield to CeeDee. If CeeDee holds onto those there are probably more people pointing out how well Javonte picked up the blitz on those plays.

Yet he was moving the pile with guys hanging all over him, falling forward - this was always kinda his game, no? He might have lost a step after the injury but I remember him grinding defenses down a bit that first year in Denver, never really a sprinter unless I'm mistaken. He looks extremely powerful for his size, perfect for GL work - I'm thinking he'll barely average 4 YPC this year but he might score 12-14 TDs.

(Dak should have been ejected too)
Why? Spitting on the ground? Dak didn't do anything to warrant an ejection.
He spit toward Carter and taunted him. You can see it in the replays they showed around the weather break. He knew what he was doing and Carter bit like a fool and got the ejection. I would be surprised if there wasn't a fine coming.
I saw the replay. He was 10 feet from Carter and looking at the ground. Then he smiled at Carter's comment like he was surprised Carter said something. Nothing to see here and definitely not ejection worthy in any way, shape or form.

Agreed. His power was fine, it's his first step burst that is gone. He was never a burner but he did have quick burst through holes and power to break tackles. The burst is gone which is the "juice" I was referring to. It hurts his overall game but he is still ok and will be useful....just not what he was pre-injury.

fool's gold.
Maybe, but his competition is minimal. His pass protection is solid. Barring injury he is gonna be on the field on a decent offense. He is very relevant for us fantasy folk. Do you sell now? Maybe. I own two shares and I'm holding. The biggest problem is that most Williams owners didn't have him in lineups.
I wouldn’t sell unless someone gets silly. Of course the only places I have him are in a non trading league and the FBG contest 🤷‍♂️

I disagree. His smile was not of surprise at all. That was a wry smirk. He knew what he was doing and baited him.

Regardless, this is a Javonte thread. Nice to see him scoring on my bench. Late flyer to hopefully help with depth. If someone offers me an overpay sure I would move him. But his value is still low unless he repeats.

Spitting directly to the ground 10 feet away from someone is baiting? Dang baseball players better watch out. I think I saw someone else spit to the ground last night too. Maybe he should be ejected as well?

My impression was the Dak was not really paying much attention and spit. Carter said something like are you spitting at me and Dak heard and chuckled like WTF are you talking about. Carter then did what he did.

Now you are just being ridiculous. Big difference between what happens on a baseball field and what happened here.

Dak was most definitely staring Carter down, walked toward him, eyed him, spit in his direction and then gave him the head nod smile saying what's up.

Javonte's next game is at home versus the Giants - now might be the time to sell if you buy the hype about NYG's DL. Of course we can always hope that Abdul Carter will get himself ejected before kickoff.

This is exactly how I saw it as well but haven't said anything cause Im a Dallas fan and nobody ill believe me.

Dak spits ALL THE TIME. Constantly doing it.

That play jumped out to me too. He looked great on that.

Two weeks ago I was offered Javonte/Blue for Charbs. I expect big things for Charbs. I wonder if the offer would still be available.

Charbs has multiple ways to win right now…

1) Walker injury
2) Play better than Walker
3) Walker gets traded to another team
4) Charbs gets traded to another team

…and for what it’s worth, both are signed through ‘26 which is something I like to keep an eye on.

The guy just texted saying that he would still do that deal. I just don't think I want to give up Charbs. I am very high on him moving forward.

I’m very high on Charbs too. He’s on the upswing. Maybe Javonte and Blue are a good better but Charbs seems like a better bet to me as he’s simply performed well when given the chance. Javonte hasn’t and Blue is a rookie. Who knows what will happen with Blue.

Just traded Javonte in a 1 QB FFPC league for a random future 2nd of a team I think might miss the playoffs. 🥹
Not looking like such great trade right now. Traded Javonte in 2 dynasty leagues this year both for 2nd round picks.

My backs in 1 of the leagues is CMC, Judkins and Harvey..........might have been able to use Javonte right about now

I have Williams on a team I am trying to rebuild, and I would be happy for a future 2nd from a team that won’t make the playoffs.

What do you think you’d be willing to pay if you are a borderline playoff team. Would you pay your 2nd next year?

If u move him post what ya got for my mental value bank. I'm not gonna shop him. I'm just curious

Ya, but 2 yard td runs can be had on anyone. If anything I see a decent game with him next week as the Giants struggle to keep up. I feel like Williams floor ceiling split is large.

While we play fantasy the coaches are not playing fantasy. Having "juice" is one small aspect of playing RB.

You may not like it but JW is a veteran who offers a lot more than juice and the rookies will have to prove they are better and not just in the who can run the fastest. I expect JW to be the lead back all year unless he gets injured. We will see how much Blue and or Mafah can squeeze out for touches. It will be a time share but for now JW is the starter no matter how many people say he is a plodder.

Good news for those who aren't 100% sold as his value is now up again and climbing. If someone is a contender JW + a pick could net you a pretty nice player right now.

I think JW was worth a second during the summer. Honestly a late first is what I would want and I don't think that is asking too much. If a true contender needs an RB that they can start weekly in the flex or as depth it is worth it. They may not be willing to pay but giving up a 25 year old starting RB for a 2nd is not enough.

For sure there is injury risk or him being in a time share this year but the other side of it is he ends up their starter for the next 2 years if he continues to play well.

Everyone for years wanted to own the Cowboys starting RB and now no one does? Things change, people heal and JW is one more year off injury.

Line looked good last night and should improve as the year goes….

Smith 1st round
Guyton 1st
Booker 1st
Beebe 2nd
Steele undrafted.

Always depends on the league I guess. I did put him up for trade bait over the summer for a 2, but I didn’t get any bites. I’d still take the 2nd because honestly his good game hurt me more than it helped. I need this team to really be bad, lol.

Obviously if I thought he could help me even next year I’d probably keep him, but I just see him as an average RB. He’s in the perfect spot right now, and in redraft he has good value this year. But I just see him as a solid role player. As a starter teams will always be looking to replace him. I see him similarly to a slightly better Gus Edwards. In the right situation he has value, but over time he has a lot of roster clogger potential.

I'd work this one hard to squeeze out a first. Look at rosters who are strong but week at RB. Maybe JW + a third will net you a first now. I would be working hard to trade him but he's only 25 and could play 2-3 more years as a starter. Getting a potential starter for a 2nd is a home run.

Definitely league dependent but I'd be holding if I could only get a 2nd at this point.

Javonte Williams - Week 1
@FantasyPtsData

The Good:

+ 80.4% snap share [~RB2]
+ 78.9% backfield carry share [~RB7]
+ 71.4% route share [~RB1]
+ 8.8% target share (75.0% backfield target share)
+ Cowboys ran the ball on 5 of 6 plays inside the red zone
+ only other active halfback fumbled on his 4th and final carry of the game

The Bad:

+ zero missed tackles forced
+ 3.60 YPC vs. Miles Sanders' 13.3 YPC
+ long of just 11 yards on 15 carries
+ (in other words) no evidence he's regained the step he lost

The Nuanced:

+ I think it makes sense you'd see DAL spam Javonte on A- and B-gap runs (and reel back the Miles Sanders usage) while the Eagles were down their star DT. Wouldn't be shocked if this was Javonte's highest snap share all year

The Bad:

+ zero missed tackles forced
Not sure how a "missed tackle forced" is defined...but Javonte getting hit at the Eagles 10-yard line and then dragging 4-5 additional defenders down to the 2-yard line was fairly impressive (0:45 sec mark)
