Even after they took Hil and had such a good year???
You're right. 2014 - seems not as long ago.Lions defense was not good in 2015 either.
2014 was last year of Suh, Fairley, Levy healthy, plus 3 or 4 other guys that all randomly had career years. You're right. 2014 - seems not as long ago.

2016: 12th in fewest points per game, 15th in yards... seems pretty good to me. They are young. Slay looks like he is going to be a star. Sure they weren't top 10, and it'd take a top 10 defense to make up for faults on the offensive side of the ball, but I really don't think Defense is Detroit's #1 or #2 problemYeah, the Lions defense needs playmakers at every level. They are not good on defense.
The Lions had the 2nd fewest sacks, bottom 10 in INT, and bottom 5 in forced fumbles and recovered fumbles. We would think Ansah would help with that but they need more playmakers and for him to come back fully healthy.2016: 12th in fewest points per game, 15th in yards... seems pretty good to me. 2015 they were not very good in points allowed per game, yards ranked the same. Their defense is trending up
Here is what you are missing. The Lions did a good job with time of possession and limiting the compilation of stats. Only the Houston Texans defense played less snaps than Detroit. On a play to play basis though, Detroit was abysmal. They gave up 5.9 yards per play which is bottom 6 in the league. Lions allowed opponents to convert on 3rd down 46% of the time, 2nd worst in the NFL. Opponents ran for 4.4 ypc (9th worst), 7.5 yards per pass attempt (8th worst), 26 sacks (2nd worst) and get this, the completion % against the Lions was 73%. Yes, that is correct. 73% of the passes thrown against the Lions were completed. That was easily the worst in the NFL, 6% higher than the next team. Yeah... I think because Detroit reportedly likes him a lot and people are saying that Detroit could use a RB. Some DET fans would say defense is #1. I can see that side of the coin as well; they have a lot of RBs who collectively can perform quite well.-OZ- said:The Lions had the 2nd fewest sacks, bottom 10 in INT, and bottom 5 in forced fumbles and recovered fumbles. How did we get off subject?
I guess I see a young budding defense. A few more play makers, I can agree, would make a huge difference.Ilov80s said:Here is what you are missing. A. We have no idea who the Lions like. They are about as secretive of a team that exists. Theo Reddick missed 1/4 of the year and had 2 wrist surgeries. We just found out about it a week ago. Detroit increased their scouting budget by tenfold and are scouting everybody.Yeah... I think because Detroit reportedly likes him a lot and people are saying that Detroit could use a RB. Do you guys think Detroit would pass on Mixon round 2? Would you be happy with him or would you prefer back to back defense round 1-2?
At this point I think he will go somewhere 19-43. (I don't see him slipping past Philly round 2). Which means I don't think he will be there for Detroit round 2. If he does fall that far (and some think further), would you like that pick

B. I think Mixon might be the best offensive player in the draft so I could live with him if he's the pick. I don't trust Ameer to ever carry much of a load. Theo is just a pass catching back. ZZ is a back-up. There is definitely a real need at RB. I just think it's easier to find late round RBs to fill a small role than it will be to find a late round DE,LB or DB that we need to play multiple roles. So round 1, it's hard for me to get excited about Mixon. Round 2, I can't argue the value.
C. The defense has Slay and Ziggy. Both are Pro Bowl caliber players. A'Shawn looks like will be good. Hyder had that hot start and looked like he was going to be something, but then only had 1 sack over the last 9 games. Ngata is a shell of himself and is really only around now as a veteran leader. Glover Quinn has been really good but at 31, I worry he might need to be replaced soon. Diggs is a nice young slot corner who I think can play an important role. Killebrew is the wild card. He played pretty well late in the year as a hybrid safety/lb. If he can take a step forward, he has the size/athleticism to be a good player in that special role. What Detroit does not have is a 2nd outside corner, any linebackers, a right defensive end and really anyone that can generate a pass rush other than Ansah.
If he's there for the Lions 2nd round pick, they should race to the podium.Yeah... I think because Detroit reportedly likes him a lot and people are saying that Detroit could use a RB. That's a very smart thing to do... Mixon 1.01 and then the other after. Very very smart.I knew he missed those games way back during the season![]()
I've had it Cook, Mixon, Fournette from the beginning but I'm expecting I will draft Mixon 1.01 at this point. I have 1.01 and 1.03 and with all the hype he's gotten I'd rather pick whoever is left among Cook and Fournette than hope Mixon makes it to me. Obviously NFL landing spot can give clarity but that's where I am right now.
So Kraft won't consider Mixon for hitting a woman but he will host Peterson, who is a child abuser. Makes sense
Hypocrisy at its best.So Kraft won't consider Mixon for hitting a woman but he will host Peterson, who is a child abuser. Makes sense
Apparently it was doing his agent a solid. They had no interest in signing him. I think it was the agent just trying to drum up some interest from other teams. "If NE is checking him out maybe we should" sort of stuff. So Kraft won't consider Mixon for hitting a woman but he will host Peterson, who is a child abuser. Makes sense
I've got the 1.01 and the 1.04, so I'm not sure I can play this game.I knew he missed those games way back during the season![]()

I think you can.I've got the 1.01 and the 1.04, so I'm not sure I can play this game.
Well, it's odd that I have the 1 and the 4, and another owner has both the 2 and the 3. Really hoping he goes WR with one of those picks. Personally, I'm not very high on McCaffrey - but we'll see what the draft itself does to his stock.I think you can.
You would be able to land two of the following:
Cook
Fournette
Mixon
McCaffrey
McCaffrey, IMO, will be drafted ahead of Cook. Maybe even Mixon too (ahead of Cook). Cook has a much more concerning rap sheet than Mixon.
Depending on where they land, Mixon will likely not drop to 1.04. I'd say you'd be between McCaffrey or Cook if you took Mixon 1.01.
So, Mixon/McCaffrey vs Fournette/McCaffrey? That'd be my guess. All depends where everyone lands in the draft. But you're sitting awesome regardless. I'd probably pick Mixon because I firmly believe he will be the #1 RB out of this class.
Agree. If he ends up in CIN then my expectations are a little more tempered with that log jam in that backfield. If he ends up in TB or IND then I'd be very excited about himWell, it's odd that I have the 1 and the 4, and another owner has both the 2 and the 3. Really hoping he goes WR with one of those picks. Pro Football Focus compared Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon to New York Jets RB Matt Forte.
"Although Mixon is a bit heavier (at 6-foot-1, 226 pounds), both have a similar build and overall athleticism," notes the PFF analysis team. "While they are on the bigger side of the frame spectrum and show power, both are more elusive than powerful as runners." The other obvious on-field similarity comes in the receiving chops of both backs. There is no doubting that Mixon has first-round talent, but his 2014 assault is probably going to drop him to a Round 2 selection.

Everyone's plan will change on 4/27 and 4/28.My god, as an owner of the 1.02/1.03 this year, I swear I have a new plan every week. I've been lower on Cook than most for a while, but here we're talking mixon at 1.01? That is bold, and sometimes luck favors the bold. I've just been assuming fournette will go 1.01 in most drafts, but the more I look around I see people that like Davis there (although he's slipping a bit), or mccaffery for some. Now hank is in here talking mixon 1.01. I'll be looking forward to the "post your rookie draft" page.
Is Cincinnati really more of a logjam than Tampa Bay? I feel like the Bucs have more RB talent than the Bengals do. Hill has blown his chances and Bernard is coming off a major injury, and was stretched as a full-time RB before that. Meanwhile, Martin has proven himself to be better than Hill, Sims is every bit the weapon in the passing game Bernard is, and they have Jacquizz, who turned in better work in 2016 than any of these guys.Agree. Jacquizz I like a lot... Martin I do not believe will be a Buc when the season starts, but I could be wrong. Sims I am a fan of but he is one-dimensional. If all 3 are on the roster then yes it would be a huge logjam for Mixon. If Martin is cut then I think that opens the door for Mixon. Is Cincinnati really more of a logjam than Tampa Bay? I'd actually be hoping Mixon went to the Bengals, so there was a chance he could fall a bit, I'd love to steal him outside the top-5.
Exactly. The only logjam in either place would be to backup MixonThere's no log jam in either Tampa or Cincinnati.
Martin is still there. I get that they're not tied to him, but they haven't cut him yet. Drafting a RB in the first 2 rounds would not mean he necessarily gets cut, but it would suggest it.Andy Dufresne said:There's no log jam in either Tampa or Cincinnati.
I am aware Martin is still there. True, that would be a #### move by them though, holding him that long just to cut him. Makes it much harder to get on a new team. I'd guess that if Mixon goes to TB he's a #1 RB in year 2, but would split time with Rogers this year.I am aware Martin is still there. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller told the Access Vikings podcast that the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals and Oakland Raiders are the teams he's heard most closely associated with Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon.
"And that’s going to back to in-season, the teams asking about him the most," he said. "I think it’s very possible. … He’s going to go in the second round, which is my feeling. … He’s absolutely in play at No. 48 (for the Vikings)." Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman both attended Mixon's pro day. Minnesota doesn't have a first-round pick. It would make all sorts of sense for them to roll the dice on Mixon -- if he's available -- when they come on the clock for the first time in the second round.

Ugh, I hope not. Zimmer doesn't know how to use a rookie, and their offensive line is absolute crap. Also, being trapped with Murray and McKinnon would not be ideal. After the use of Laquon Treadwell last season I'd bet that Mixon would be used mostly on special teams, then he'd get hurt, then Zimmer would say something derogatory about him to the press, and he'd slowly fade from fantasy hope.Bleacher Report's Matt Miller told the Access Vikings podcast that the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals and Oakland Raiders are the teams he's heard most closely associated with Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon.

Zimmer has been HC since 2014. Which fantasy darlings has he killed?Minnesota would be about as bad as possible other than a team that already has a young high end starter.
Zimmer is the killer of fantasy darlings.
Patterson and Treadwell.Zimmer has been HC since 2014. Which fantasy darlings has he killed?
Also, many people think that McKinnon is better than he's gotten the opportunity to show for the Vikes. Being handcuffed by Asiata all the time.Patterson and Treadwell.
And I get that Patterson probably just isn't a very good WR, but they showed utter incompetence in how to use him.
How is it incompetent to not use a not very good player?Patterson and Treadwell.

McKinnon is a matter of opinion. I personally think he's a decent role player, which is how he's been used. Also, many people think that McKinnon is better than he's gotten the opportunity to show for the Vikes. Being handcuffed by Asiata all the time.
So, Patterson, Treadwell, McKinnon, Diggs could be used better, and Teddy Bridgewater isn't having a great time, although that's technically not Zimmer's fault.
"Cordarrelle, you head downfield and read the defense and then do a complex double move even though that's way over your head. Jared Wright, we're going to bring you around on a WR reverse. Charles Johnson be ready, next play we're throwing a WR screen to you."How is it incompetent to not use a not very good player?
And are you sure it was Zimmer's fault that Treadwell didn't contribute?
McKinnons problem is he sucks as a receiver and he's no good at short yardage.McKinnon is a matter of opinion. I personally think he's a decent role player, which is how he's been used.
Diggs has played 26 of 32 games in his two years as a 5th round pick, catching 52 and 84 balls his two seasons. How could he have been used better?
It IS true, however, that Zimmer has shown a reluctance to play rookies. But most of those cases have been defensive players.
To play devil's advocate for a minute, do you think it is a wise choice to select Mixon at 2.1 but a poor choice to move up to, say, 1.25 if you think a team picking late in the first has interest? On NFL network they discussed the Browns trading back into the 1st round to draft Mixon. They have the 33rd pick. He will be on the board at 33, so why would they think the Browns would need to trade back into the 1st to get him. Just awful.
I'd put him being available at 33rd pick at 50/50. Almost all reputable sources seem to think he's a top 15 overall talent in the draft. If a team has done their research and feels he's safe character wise going forward he could go before the 33rd pick.On NFL network they discussed the Browns trading back into the 1st round to draft Mixon. It's far from certain he'll be there at 33. If teams believe Mixon is a 1st round talent and they know many other teams are wiling to grab him in the 2nd... then grabbing him in the 1st seems likely. I've been saying for months he goes in round 1 or 2. Now I'm almost certain he goes mid/late 1st, especially if McCaffrey goes top 15. I'm much less concerned about Mixon than I am Cook at this point and Cook has added health concerns. Mixon is this year's Randy Moss only he won't be near the legend that Moss became. On NFL network they discussed the Browns trading back into the 1st round to draft Mixon. They have the 33rd pick.
