RB Jonathan Taylor, IND (3 Viewers)

Locking up a stud RB when you have a rookie QB deal is a freaking no-brainer. Not sure why the Colts were over-thinking on this one. Taylor's agent probably knew that the QB contract is the perfect time to strike.

AM I crazy to start him over James Cook in London today? I mean you're paying him BIG money, is he really on a super limited pitch count? Anyone local hearing anything?

Every beat and national writer is saying he's going to be on a pitch count and even Irsay said he'd not look for him to have to much work.

Pitch count, limited, super limited are all up for debate but you won't get any reports suggesting otherwise in next 10-15 minutes.

At absolute most the only info we'll all get and can only hope it's reliable, and it won't help you in time on starting James Cook, is for them to define the limited role. Such as 8-10 touches/25 snaps, etc, etc.

“Snap count” is the correct term when discussing player usage in football. “Pitch count” is appropriate when discussing baseball.

Glad this got done. Good for all parties and other RB’s as well. I’ve never seen a position devalued this much in any sport. It was getting ridiculous.
Still only getting 2-3 years and/or franchise tags for these guys. I honestly think Taylor wanted much more than this and it’s likely this deal has been on the table all along. It’s a little bit of a raise over back to back franchise tags and then basically a 3rd year option.

Great deal for the Colts.
I disagree about this offer having been on the table all along. From everything the Colts said previously, they never even entertained a contract extension. I think that is what angered JT, as he felt he had proven himself enough to at least warrant extension talks.

When the Colts refused to do that, he made the trade request. I honestly think JT wasn't trying to become the highest paid RB in football, he was just looking for some respect from the Colts and a salary adjustment in line with his talent and waht he brings to the team.

It's definitely a win/win for both parties, especially considering what it looked like a few weeks ago.
So they went from offering nothing at all to $14M per year? Why?
Because they know he's one of the top backs in the league and he makes their team better?

This strikes me as a situation where what people say and what people do have a decent chance of being different. It completely makes sense for people to indicated there will be a snap count limit. Yet I would not be surprised if JTaylor gets 15-20 touches. We shall see.

52 mins agoIndianapolis Colts running backs Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss are expected to split snaps in Week 5 versus the Tennessee Titans, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Taylor is making his season debut after spending four weeks on the PUP list, so Indianapolis will ease him back into action by giving Moss a steady dose of touches. Taylor is a mid-range fantasy RB2 while Moss is a fine RB3/FLEX play this week.--

RB1-CMC
RB2-KW III-Bye
RB3-Achane/Mostert, feels like Achane is taking over the back field with each week that passes
RB4-Kamara
RB5-Taylor, gonna let him sit the first week out, hope he produces and makes me play him next week

I am considering a trade for a WR but this is a Non-PPR league

Going Breece over Taylor given the matchups. Feel like Breece will get more touches against the worse defense. The betting props on Draftkings have Breece at 59.5 rushing and 17.5 receiving and more likely to score. Taylor is at 45.5. If we can’t trust the oddsmakers who can we trust?!? I do have to start Taylor over some scrubs in another league so hoping he eats as well.

It was a friendly sarcastic post to be sure. I've known you here too long for it to be otherwise.

That's the main reason I didn't start Taylor yet. Moss may not be a stud but he's been playing all year. I wanted to see what he would do.

I might have missed it, they signed Moss to a long-term deal?

That's pretty smart. Dude just became the first RB in about 20 years to light up the TItans.

Oof. That was anti-climatic.
I believe it was obvious. The man hasn’t played since week 13 last year. Bye week 14. He left after 2 plays in week 15. They said he will be worked in slowly.

It wasn’t obvious in the FBG projections and ranking. They were quite bullish.
I don’t listen to them or anyone else. Common sense is the play here. Did people think he would hit the ground running after being out so long, with very little practice?

Nope, but a TD would have felt really nice.

Pretty risky hoping for that. Only reason I played him in one league is no viable options, otherwise not a chance I would……..yet…..

I think they did, but Irsay felt he needed to try and make some kind of point. Smarter thoughts prevailed in the end. All JMO.

Smarter thoughts prevailed in the end
This.

Two years of franchise tags for top 3 back is not salary cap crippling. The Colts realized it wasn't a bad deal.
I would say not that.

Only thing that changed was Irsay thought Taylor would play under his contract, in large part because Taylor said he would back in April. I don't think anyone foresaw Taylor taking the nuclear option. That was the only change here IMO.

All anyone has to do is listen to what Irsay was saying after the extension was agreed. This is not what he wanted to do, not now, it's what he had to do to get Taylor be a willing participant.

So, I sat down and watched every rushing play by the Colts yesterday and my takeaway was that Moss was nothing special, the OL dominated, and Taylor looked very rusty. Prime Taylor probably would have had well over 200 rushing yards yesterday with the workload Moss had.

I don't think Moss is a real threat to Taylor, Taylor's rustiness is the threat to Taylor. Its possible Taylor is seeing 75% of the work in 2 weeks if he gets back into the swing of things quickly. He just looked hesitant yesterday, but we know that's not who he is as a runner.

One other thing worth noting, the holes didn't stop being huge after Richardson went down.

They decided they are better off with their best player, and he wasn't going to be happy with a crap deal. Yes?

That feels like smarter thoughts prevailed.

i'd give Taylor about 3 weeks. They play Jacksonville, Cleveland, and New Orleans. Those are all good defenses. When he gets to face the Panthers after that it's going to be crazy

Is there anything meaningful to glean from last week's game? Taylors snaps should only go up from here. NO ONE expected Moss to do what he did. Plus Richardson left the game and that seems to cap the RB in this offense. Does anyone believe Moss is more talented than Taylor? Moss have a 1800 yard season yet? lol

How did the Titans run D fold all of a sudden? They have quite a long track record of dominating the trenches. This feels like a huge one-off outlier aberration game. If it's a 60-40, 70/30 split, then Taylor is Bijan and Moss is Allgeier.

Zach Moss is going to be a pest. Good for him though, he was super underused in Buffalo, and appropriately overlooked in fantasy for ever
I agree with this. I don’t see the Colts phasing out Moss for no reason. It was reported before Sundays game that Moss and Taylor would roughly “split” touches. That didn’t happen at all. Moss had 25 touches and Taylor had 7. I certainly expect Taylor‘s usage to go up—but I don’t see Moss getting phased out or being relegated to a limited backup role if he’s healthy. The Colts just invested a lot of money in a very injury prone position. The Giants have collapsed since Barkley has been hurt, the Browns are not the same without Chubb, even Baltimore is inconsistent without Dobbins. I don’t see the Colts risking $26.5 million guaranteed dollars through injury when they can mitigate some of that risk by offloading some of the workload to Moss—who is making less than $1 million this year. I think it will take another game or two before Taylor gets to a position where touches are “split”—and I think that even when Taylor eventually gets the majority of touches—that Moss will still be getting 10+ touches

Gonna wait another week before playing Taylor. Too many questions marks. I understand people need to start him if they don't have the depth though.

This game was the perfect setup for Moss owners to get what they can for him from Taylor owners.
Most Taylor owners will not value Moss for what he’s worth. Look through this thread- almost every Taylor owner is going out of their way to discredit Moss and label him a fluke. I have no horse in this race on either the Moss or Taylor side- but I will say that I see no reason why Moss just somehow disappears (barring injury or trade). Moss could easily get lions share of touches week 6, it could be a split after that, and going past week 7-8, we maybe looking at a 65-35 or 60-40 split in favor of Taylor.
