I would love to have been a fly on the wall during that Irsay Taylor meeting.

Irsay is such a jackass...easily my least liked owner, and there are several owners I'm not a fan of.

You will or have already read he got put on the PUP list but I think it's contract related....and might get ugly.

Quoting myself here but this did in fact get ugly. I'm going to guess in a few days we will hear that Taylor's agent has requested a trade, might have already done so.

Not that anything will come out of it because I just don't see anyone giving up enough to make it worth the Colts while to lock down Taylor for next two years because he's due a little over $4m this year and any team trading for him would be expected to extend him. Not impossible but seems hard anyone wants to give up enough to make it work.

It has been reported that his initial trade request was before today and the answer was not no.

So that gets to the second part I wrote above of who will pay the Colts much knowing they have to meet Taylor’s contract demands?

Kick and scream. Yes, RB is devalued. But someone might pay. Taylor doesn't need everyone in the NFL to agree to pay him. He needs one team. If the Colts plan is to run him into the ground after they franchise him once, this is the time to see if someone will give him a long term deal.

If he forced his way out of town, maybe he gets 20 mill up front on a five year deal that's bargain for the team. Having that money up front is a big deal. You can put that money to work, so any low salary years down the road are made up for.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor has requested a trade after meeting with owner Jim Irsay.

Irsay met with Taylor on Saturday after the Colts’ owner had choice words regarding the league-wide running backs zoom held earlier in the week. Apparently the two sides could not console their differences behind closed doors as Taylor promptly requested a trade away from the franchise. Taylor appeared in just 11 games in 2022 but led the league in rushing in 2021 by a significant margin, racking up over 1,800 yards on his way to the rushing title. He started camp on the physically unable to perform list while he recovers from ankle surgery earlier in the offseason, but he should be ready to once again challenge for the rushing title when teams take to the field for the coming season. It remains unclear what kind of market will materialize for the dominant rusher.

Probably correct, but that’s a large number that I don’t see many NFL teams paying.

There's 10 RBs with cap numbers over 8 mill this year. Teams are franchising guys, then they let them go. They are fine with paying 10 mill for one year. They aren't fine with paying 12 mill a year for four years. Next best thing is as much up front as possible.

A new team could give him 20 mill up front as a SB over a 4 year extension, and he would never get to the cap number Derrick Henry is at in 2023.

I know everybody loves to think about the idea of KC or Buffalo (neither of whom make sense financially) or maybe even Cincinnati (who I think like Mixon more than the fantasy community does) but if Taylor is on the market, one team that I think could be interesting, is the Chicago Bears. Most cap room by over 10 million, and some excess picks from the Bryce Young deal. Teams also couldn't sell out to stop Taylor, without leaving themselves open for Fields to be going the other way.

Another team (and they would have to move some stuff around cap wise) that makes sense is the Miami Dolphins. For all the talk of Cook or whomever, Taylor is light years better, he's more explosive/talented and they have been aggressive traders in the recent past.

Lastly, would it be crazy for the Ravens to be interested? Dobbins seems to be either hurt/holding out, and he's far less deserving of a new deal. They have a little over 9 million left, but could easily move some around.

ETA: I don't really know what the cost of Taylor would be. My gut says a 2nd rounder, and maybe a conditional later pick. I can't see Taylor costing what CMC did, as A) CMC is just better, and B) the 49ers were getting what they felt was the missing piece to a title run, not sure teams think like that in the summer. Would they have paid as much before the season?

Taylor could replace a lot of rbs in the league and is young enough that an extension might not be such a hinderance. vikings, jags, cardinals, jets, saints, bears, pats, commanders, dolphins, rams, eagles, broncos, raiders, bills and bucs could all have varying degrees of interest in him. if any rb could test the market like this taylor is good case study for it. i bet someone would would trade and extend as long as it's not a 1st round pick cost. a 2nd or 3rd and an extension isn't unreasonable for a team wanting to win or even just help out a young qb
