RB Jonathan Taylor, IND (2 Viewers)

:bored: Sometimes I type fast. Sometimes its auto correct. You know who I am talking about.

Are you logging in and out with humpback's name? Because I was talking to him. You're not the one playing expert about guys whose names you don't know.
sorry. Read it as me. Not sure it matters in any case. I still can't spell TJ housyourmama or how many c's theyre are in christian mcccaferty

I agree that when it comes to botching names that there are guys who I don't even blink when somebody misspells their name. Nor do I dock them. But Devon or De'Von Achane into Archane? Sounds like somebody hasn't spent enough time with the name to know the skill set.

@humpback Again, Miami is "all in" on trying to win it these next two years but how much of the future do you give up for Taylor (knowing you also need to pay him)? CMAC was already under contract to Carolina when the 9ers came calling so they didn't have to eat his signing bonus...

One last attempt to clarify what I meant- I agree with this post, they are very unlikely to get Taylor for a number of reasons, including (likely primarily due to) the cost.

I was more commenting on the "signaling" by drafting a RB and not breaking the bank for Cook. I don't think those things signal anything about their potential interest in a guy like Taylor since he's on a totally different level. Put it this way, drafting a small RB doesn't mean they wouldn't be interested in Taylor (especially when that happened before Taylor was even on the radar). Not giving Cook a lot of money doesn't mean they wouldn't be interested in the better, younger Taylor. The reason they wouldn't be interested in JT would be because he wants a huge contract and/or the Colts want a huge return.

I disagree. Again, are they "pursuing" cook? It seems they made him an offer and he wants more money. Have they budged from that offer?
Do we actually know what's going on behind the scenes?
In Miami? No, but its not hard to make some guesses based on what Miami has done in the recent past and what they are aspiring to.

1) Miami feels like they are all in for the next year or two before they need to decide on Blowing it up bc a) Tua proves to be all that and needs to be paid as such, or b) he gets hurt again and Miami needs to start over with another QB and a rebuild
2) Miami has not been afraid to go for the "big swing" in terms of Hill, Chubb, and to a lesser extent Ramsey.
3) McDaniel comes from the Shanny tree which does not (until the CMAC deal) put a lot of emphasis on a bell cow or high pedigree RB
and
4) Miami is trying to build a top of the league D and is still missing a few pieces there (LB and CB until Ramsey comes back) and has a new D coordinator who has more experience than the HC.

Based on that, I'd say Miami spending money on the offensive side of the ball without an injury seems unlikely. Also, they have 2 D linemen they need to extend in Wilkins and Sieler (and Waddle and Hollard the year after that) so the 13 mil in cap room they have right now is tenuous at best.

Add all that up and overpaying for a RB regardless of pedigree seems like a foolish move. Taylor is all world, but it is a very "messy" situation, so why get involved?

Jonathan Taylor isn’t participating at Colts training camp due to an ankle injury.
It’s the same ankle that kept Taylor sidelined for much of the 2022 season. Taylor apparently had recent surgery on the ankle and is undergoing treatment while he remains at odds with the organization over his contract situation. No structural damage was found in Taylor’s ankle, though a procedure this close to the regular season is concerning for the Colts and fantasy managers drafting Taylor at a discount with hopes he’ll play in 2023. He’s certainly a risky fantasy pick, even in the second or third round of 12-team leagues.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor returned to training camp, but remains on the active/PUP list.

As NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted, Taylor’s “stance has not changed.” This is in reference to his trade request, as he and the Colts remain at an impasse over his contract heading into this season. Taylor has been rehabbing an ankle injury, but that part of the story feels secondary at this point. It continues to feel like Taylor could miss games, even if healthy, as he attempts to escape from Indianapolis and owner Jim Irsay. Running backs Evan Hull and Deon Jackson are worthy late-round fliers as long as Taylor is sidelined.

I'm pretty sure I posted it last year, and I'll say it again. I want no part of Taylor.
Last year he was a top 3 pick, I avoided it then, and I'm avoiding it now. (albeit it for different reasons this go around)

I can find other losers to draft and suck the life out of my fantasy teams in much later rounds.........................

Sounds like we share a similar drafting style.

Feels like he has to play, right? All this holdout nonsense started after that RB meeting.

I haven't been able to control myself and have been drafting him excessively in the 2nd round. If he doesn't play a few of my teams are toast, but if money is his motive... sitting out games and missing out on that gamecheck seems counterintuitive.

I think he will suit up Week 1 and have a monster season. Love the discount. You can pair this guy with Kelce, Hill, Chubb, etc and have a strong 1-2 punch to start your draft.

I just don't think he has much leverage. If he plays they Colts might go 7-10. If he doesn't play the Colts might go 3-14. Different levels of losing is still losing.

If the consolation prize is a chance to draft Marvin Harrison Jr, I don't think that really bugs Colts management too much.

I get the doom and gloom. With all these insider news reports it's hard to know if he is practicing in full pads right now or about to have career ending surgery today. HC Shane Steichen says Jonathan Taylor will travel with the team to Philly. That appears to be a fact so that's positive.

Feels like he has to play, right
Latest news is he may need another surgery on his ankle.
That tweet wasn’t “news,” but 100% pure speculation about Taylor from a “Fantasy Doctor.”
It was a beat writer, and it’s out there but probably should not have said “news”.
What beat writer was that?
The tweet above was from 32beatwriters - so I don’t know the specific one, but I thought that handle was an amalgamation of the 32 different team beat writers.

Ok, thanks for answering but I don't think that report is from a beat writer. The 32 beatwriters scours for news but must not always be posting news just from beat writers. That looks like one of those internet doctor reports.

I follow a few Colts beat writers and one of them, Holder, is IMO one of the best beat writers in the business and he's been more on top of this Taylor story then anyone. Neither he nor the Colts beat writer for The Athletic or any other source have I seen report this and if it's real I think they would know, especially Holder.

I personally don't think there is anything here. If the contract was not an issue I think he'd be in camp.

So where do we put the odds:

that he reports to camp before week 1?
He's traded before week 1?
He has a second surgery?
He holds out for a significant part of the season?

Ok - sorry, it was in this thread so that’s why I brought it up. I’m sure more will come out either way soon.

IMO report week one is most likely and the only other option is to continue rehab longer to buy more time.

The Colts are not shopping him, I don’t think he needs a surgery and there is no way on earth he’d do a legit holdout.

I got an offer in a dynasty salary cap league of Stevenson ($15 out of $250) for Taylor ($10) straight up. It's an interesting offer but I don't think I can pull the trigger just yet. Just throwing out there what some people are thinking regarding the value Taylor is at currently.

If Taylor is good to go and plays like he is capable of he should be a great player for those who were not turned away from him because of all of the drama and speculation.

I dont know honestly as all the fuss was such a turn off for me I didnt want to dig into it.

I trust menobrown to give a honest opinion to the best of his knowledge and it sounds like he has been keeping tabs on this.

To late to change my answer to trade?

Chris Grier, please report to your office immediately
What would you be comfortable with the Dolphins giving up for JT in a trade?
2nd for next season if they need to. His salary this year won't hurt their payroll at all, he's in Year 4?
They would have to give him a contract extension and signing bonus, that's why he wants out of Indy, Miami also has WIlkins not taking the field right now until they extend him or get him some big money so there's a lot of moving pieces here.

Miami loses and whiffs on so many of their picks, they are built to win right now, he fits well with the team I think. Would push a couple guys out the door, no problem.
Would take a ton of pressure off Tua and the passing game, make things easier but the OL is not very good.

Logic tells me this is similar to Ekeler. Let him test the market, see that it’s not great and then let him come back to you.

But Jim Irsay is involved so no idea really.

Still struggle to see a team give up enough to make it worthwhile for the Colts in the idea they would also need to pay him.

But a trade to most teams would be a boon to his value IMO.
