RB Jonathan Taylor, IND (1 Viewer)

Like I said earlier, Colts and Irsay totally irrational with the ask and no team would pay what the Colts wanted. Not worth it.

For JTs sake I did hope he was traded and to get out from Irsay - that guy thinks he's playing fantasy football. What a mess. I'm glad MIA didn't pay the asking price - they probably just laughed at Irsay.

Like has been mentioned in this thread and on social media - Irsay asking for the world for JT but won't pay him what he thinks his value is.

If rumors are true he's not just trying to play FF, he's the guy who throws out ridiculous offers and doesn't realize how out of touch he is.

Not sure how true these offers are but if so jeez.

Packers offered AJ Dillon and a 3rd. Irsay countered with Dillon/Watson/1st

Irsay wanted Waddle+ for him.

Pure delusion.

with what they were asking for it seems more vindictive then anything else. they knew no one would pay that price. the rejection of reasonable offers, the refusal to pay JT despite placing a premier trade cost on him, and the audacity to let him seek out a trade partner with all this in mind just seems petty. poor JT. hopefully he can get out of there. i wouldn't be busting my hump to play for the team either knowing how dirty they are treating me. the long term ramifications of other players on the team seeing this and potential FAs could be devastating.

So they really just provided lip service that they would try and trade him - but negotiated in bad faith.

If they truly thought he was worth more than Watson or Waddle they'd have zero issue paying him.

I've got a buddy who inherited an old '60s boat from his dad when he passed. It could be a collectors' item if he had hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to sink into restoring it, which he doesn't. So he's kept it in his detached garage for, oh, about a decade - the entire time swearing that he's gonna get around to it next month.

Finally his wife told him, "You put that thing up for sale or you're gonna be putting this house up for sale after I walk out of here." So he went on whatever site is the Autotrader of boats and listed it ... for about three times its realistic value.

"I'm sorry, honey, I'm doing my best to get rid of it like you asked, but darn it, just doesn't seem like there's any interest."

Well any negotiations had to include a healthy amount of discussion about his back and/or ankle. And if the premise is that he is hurt, which it is, then any offers had to be fairly low. Doesn't seem like Indy had any reason to let him go really. Why take a 4th and get lambasted forever. A 3rd *probably* same story. And I'd be surprised if anybody offered a 2nd but I haven't actually been following super close.

Not related did my first post-news draft in an Underdog BB and he went 7th round.

If it truly was Dillon, Watson and a first Irsay has gone bonkers.

That sure sounds wrong in the scope of current society and all the things going on away from the field.
I would think the NFLPA could come after the Colts hard and impact future contracts and potential free agents that they try and being to Indiana.

Colts GM Chris Ballard said Jonathan Taylor was “still complaining of pain in the ankle,” which led to him being placed on the PUP list.
Take this however you’d like. The Colts granted Taylor permission to seek a trade but failed to get a deal done by the Tuesday deadline they set for themselves. Taylor did deal with an ankle injury last season and underwent surgery this offseason to “clean out” his ankle, but it’s unclear just how bad the injury is at this point. Taylor was also reportedly dealing with back pain earlier in training camp, although he refuted those rumors shortly after they came out. Ballard spoke highly of Taylor and said he hopes the team and Taylor can come to a resolution at some point this season. This situation remains far from over, and, as Ballard pointed out, the team has “work to do on the relationship.”

Man, that comment reminds me of a few of the corporate jobs I've had over the years.

Where your boss has to look you in the eyes and lie to you based on directives sent down from the owners/partners.

"Didn't you build the team that had 4 wins?"

"My job has NOTHING to do with this. Now back to Jonathan, we just don't think he's been a team player."

The story actually says the Dolphins did make an offer though. Odd that the link says “never made offer” and then the story says they offered picks and players.
Well, the story kinda sucks, like most of these stories.

It seems like they are citing multiple different "sources" there. Here is the video where the Miami GM says their conversations were exploratory with no exchange of offers from either side:

https://twitter.com/OmarKelly/status/1696948185057411152?s=20

I suppose he could be lying, but at least that's directly from the horses mouth, and he spoke very positively about Ballard. And here's another story where he laughs off the Waddle "offer":

Again, the point is that we really have no idea at all what is going on behind closed doors, yet so many are quick to latch onto anything that supports their narrative.

Talk on twitter from some reliable NFL folks of JT maybe not playing at all this year.

Colts called their bluff, cost them 4 games. JT should fire his agent, etc.

😬
If the team moves him to IR, I’m sure he’d happily sit and take the money. If it costs him money and an accrued season, I think he sucks it up and shows up to play. Maybe he sits with minor injuries- I’m not really sure about that but can’t say it’s not possible - but he shows up and plays hard when he plays.

It's possible he chooses to sit out year, but the ramifications are massive. He would play next year on this contract, losing a year of free agency.

That's a major longshot. I won't believe till we get an announcement from his people.

I don't forsee that happening. This is about money and he loses a lot of it by sitting.
He's not sitting, he's on the PUP. I am not 100% certain about this but I think he will get paid and accrue games towards his contract while on the PUP.

He can come off after week 4, play 6 games and have tolled the year necessary to force the Colts to let him walk or apply the tag on 2024.

He is meeting all contractual obligations while being on the PUP. It the reason he was at practice with his hoodie during this fiasco. He doesn't appear to be dumb and still wants to be paid. It's been a dog and pony show but he hasnt and shouldn't miss a check. His best chess move is the play out rest of season strong increasing his value.

Except then he risks significant injury (ACL, Achilles, etc) with zero future money.

It’s all about perspective.

I disagree that his best move is to risk a potential payday to play under the contract he’s already dissatisfied with.

Imagine watching Leveon Bell do this and deciding to make the same mistake. Do your job and be happy you are raking in 7 figures!

It's why love sports. We can disagree. I get the injury thing and I will always be 100% get your money pro player. Having said that. What does it look like for him not to risk injury? Well, he doesn't play. On the PUP he is still meeting contractual obligations. If he doesn't play, he begins to get fined and risks the year not counting. Then the viewpoint from other teams watching him sit all year. That can't improve his value for other team to give him money. All my opinion

He can always play a few downs and “pull” something.

Maybe site out a game or 2.

I’m not good at being psychic enough to know how other teams will perceive any of his actions or if it will matter in the slightest. They’ve seen his body of work. They’ll probably be happy to have him healthy if he’s on their radar.

But I know that players don’t like to play workout a safety net for injury, and JT has none.

It is what it is.

Redraft, what round do you roll the dice? Maybe we can get just a tiny taste of fantasy talk in this thread.
My redraft is on Saturday and I have no earthly idea.

I am encouraged he may fall because it may allow me to wait a bit more and focus on QB (SF league) & WRs early.

I think I view JT & Kamara similarly ATM.

If he doesn't play those final 7 games that's $2m he's missing out on. Again money seems to be the issue and not getting it would be a problem.

My view is from typical redrafts with limited bench space and annual waiver wire heroes. Roster spots are valuable. Uber valuable. And chronically underrated. As of tonight, in my leagues, I'm not sure I'd draft JT anywhere other than in the final rounds, unless I have an IR spot to work with while this BS sorts itself out. Happy to let him be someone else's problem this year!

In my last NFC today he went 7.01

To the team who took Breece Hall 5.01
Hey that must be me you are talking about and you mean NFFC. Which team were you ?
Shut the front door! that was you?!

Nice! Fun being in a league with ya, man. I liked your start with 4 WR, but that’s tough to pull off from 12.

Got super lucky Conner fell so far! Might have saved your draft. I like the moonshots in Hall/JT. If they both come on late you’ve got a ridiculous team. Risky as hell. Watson/Love is a daring QB duo. Heh

If that was you, that is.

I was the 1.04 team with CMC-DSmith-Cooper-Ljax-AJones-RWhite. Im thin at RB after my big 3, but I felt like it was a fairly strong effort otherwise. My hardest call was passing on Deebo in the 3rd. If I hadn’t started CMC I likely take him there.

Admittedly I'm probably the low man on Kamara, and I'm a bit of a risk taker, but I like Taylor late round 5, I have Kamara more like early round 8.

Taylor is potentially a workhorse playing for a contract when he gets back, the centerpiece of the offense. Kamara is a guy in a 3-way RBBC in my eyes.

I have no idea if I'll end up with Taylor (probably not, as I plan to start RB-RB unless a WR/Kelce falls a bit) but I'm 99.9% sure I won't have Kamara. I'll take a guy like James Cook over either of them.

That was my approach as well.

That said, I wish I’d been a little bolder with Josh Jacobs. He went mid 5th in my 1st NFFC draft, mid 4th in the 2nd, late 2nd in the 3rd, & early 3rd today. Those 1st two drafts were criminal value.

Dice rolls are tough though - that could have ended up just as wonky as JT.

If he refuses to play, then he probably would miss out on game checks. But, there are other options.

"NEXT QUESTION!!"

You will know it is me because here was my first 9 picks

Lamb
AJB
Higgins
London
Hall
Kittle
Taylor
Conner
Watson

Yes I got lucky on Conner from May 1st to Aug 30th there had been 250 NFFC Online championship drafts before our draft and Conner's range before today was 54-94 so I got him the latest he has ever gone. I am a risk taker I went for the massive week 15-17 upside in Hall and Taylor. Can it not work out and I lose my $350 ? Sure it easily could but my goal is always to try to win another NFFC Online championship and collect another big check. I play for 1st overall not for just 1st in our league.
