RB Jonathan Taylor, IND (4 Viewers)

Taylor has been back for 4 games so far for the Colts this season. Fantasy-wise—Moss has outperformed him in 3 of them. While I believe that this trend probably will start to shift/change—I think Taylor owners probably need to hope for a Moss trade or injury if they want to see him put up monster numbers. It just feels as though Moss is performing well enough to earn a 35-45% of the timeshare.

Sounds insane to me. Taylor is the feature back and paid as such. Moss is there to back him up. The description above sounds like a reward for doing well... similar to the agreement between my dogs and I.
This is exactly why I said a 35 or 45 percent timeshare. Taylor has been back for a month now. In his most recent game 2 days ago Moss had 1 fewer carry and 1 fewer passing target. Moss just disappearing and giving Taylor an 80-90% load of the carries is not going to randomly happen unless Moss gets traded or hurt. The Colts are not running their “real” team to appease Taylor fantasy owners. They are a team that clearly has two capable running backs—and are not afraid to use both. If anything, one could argue that not overusing Taylor protects their investment more than riding him into the ground. Overuse certainly didn’t help guys like Leveon Bell or Todd Gurley.

Your comment makes perfect sense, IF they are tanking. In that case I get it... should have let him sit out 2023 then. Why start the clock ticking and pay out $$$ if you plan to mothball the guy on a planned lost season.

What I saw - or what I THINK I saw - was Taylor running wild through most of the 1st half of a winnable game, so they bench him in 2nd half for... tanking... to be fair to Moss for being a good teammate?
I don’t think the Colts are tanking. I think that with a healthy Richardson, a healthy Taylor, a healthy Pittman—-they have a nice solid foundation for the future. However, Richardson got hurt after they decided to pay Taylor. Moss had already showed that he was an effective runner while Taylor was “hurt” or dealing with his money situation. I think that now that Richardson is hurt—they fully know and understand that they have no chance to be a true contender this season. They could go out and put Taylor out there for 80-90% of the carries—risk overusing him and getting him hurt for next season (when they get Richardson back)—all for a 2023 season where they really don’t have a chance. Recent history has shown that when players take long periods of time off—-they don’t necessarily come back fresher and better. Look at Deshaun Watson. Leveon Bell didn’t come back fresher after effectively shelving himself. I don’t think the Colts are tanking. I think they have a realistic view of what they are even if they gave Taylor a full workload. They would be a non-contending middle of the pack team this year—-which is not far off from what they are now even protecting Taylor through sharing carries with Moss. They are a middle of the pack non-contending team at best. They might as well stay that way and protect their future as much as possible.

So we agree. The Colts aren't tanking... they're just not trying to win. OK. Makes sense now.

Colts are 3-5. Next 4 opponents:

Panthers. Patriots, Buccaneers, Titans

Wonder if they think any of those 4 games are winnable games?

Oh and they also have Steelers, Falcons and Raiders later on ...

Tanking implies that they are purposely trying to lose. Thats not the same as not doing everything you can to win. Not sure what you are not understanding

Tanking means that you are purposefully and actively trying to lose games. Thats not the same as not playing your best players for the maximum amount of time in a game. The Suns would win more regular season games if they put Durant in for 38-40 mins a game. If they play him 30 mins a game- that doesn’t mean they are “tanking”

Okay. Now I'm seeing your logic. The comparison doesn't work for me, but I get your stance. I disagree with it but I respect it.

No it is not. It is LOSING... without making obvious.

Well, I guess it works.

If you were to trade Taylor for a WR in a dynasty league, what WRs would you want in order to trade him?

I would consider or for sure trade him to acquire JJ, Chase, Lamb, Wilson, AJB, ASB and Tyreek. Some of these would be for sure, some would depend on makeup of the team.

I asked the same question to the Taylor owner in my 14 team league, he said Aiyuk and something. I have ARSB but not trading him for JT
As a Taylor owner it would take at least 3 Aiyuks for me to trade him. Taylors only 24 and about to have 3 straight years of top 10 rb seasons.

As a Taylor owner, I'd be ecstatic if I could pull any of those guys. I think most of those WR owners are going to want another decent piece on top to make it happen though. Given the injuries to JJ, Rodgers impacting Wilson and now Burrow for Chase, probably a good time to go after one of them though and at least try.

I’ve heard holding your breath helps with the Aiyuks … doesn’t work as well when drinking though.

Worst thing for our fantasy rbs is when a team gets down early and they stop running the football. The Colts remaining games are against these QBs:

Baker Mayfield
Will Levis
Jake Browning
Kenny Pickett
Ridder
Aidan O’Connell
CJ Stroud

Stroud is obviously best QB and he is week 18. Although NFL games are always unpredictable, the above QBs dont scream start fast and keep scoring. Game flow should be decent. In theory.

I can’t imagine trading a player like JTaylor or CMC. My whole goal in assembling a team is to acquire elite first tier talent. Once I’ve got a player like that, they are staying on my roster.
Agreed, with one exception. If I can trade a player like JTaylor or CMC to acquire first tier WR/TE talent, I do it. RB shelf life is too short, too inconsistent, and injury prone.

I moved CMC for JT, Rhamondre, and a mid 2nd. Dynasty league.

This was a week prior to JT coming off of IR.

Lots of the league said I sold too low. Maybe at the time. But I’m not so sure I get that same deal right now.

I‘m coming more from the perspective of redraft than dynasty. Things get a lot more complex when you’re talking draft picks in trade talks.

The Colts OL should be a lot healthier coming out of the bye week, so Taylor should start breaking some bigger plays. If his workload maintains, he's got as much upside as anyone east of CMC.

But, I was basically agreeing with you.

I also couldn’t imagine trading a player like JT or CMC. So I did the only thing that made sense … I traded CMC for JT, and assets.

Comprendo?

Yes and I clarified my comments are primarily aimed at redraft and not dynasty.

With the future uncertainty of where JT will be in 2024, is he still a viable Top 5 pick overall?
Owner in 12 T 1QB PPR TE-P asked for a top WR in exchange for JT. I offered Addison. Figured it was a start.
If Dobbs holds Minn QB role, I see fewer targets all around passing game for JJ, JT Hoch & Addison so maybe now is time??

2024? Sure younger is better but I rarely look that far ahead. Football changes so quickly from year to year. Years ahead? Who knows. I do know of I was drafting a dynasty team today he is a locked and loaded top 5 pick . Imo

Jonathan Taylor signed a three-year, $42 million extension that includes $26.5 million guaranteed.
I completely forgot. Thanks!!

JT owner wants a “young Alpha” WR. Not sure how much younger than Addison it gets
If Addison was the starting point in negotiations I'd prolly politely move on as a Taylor owner.

Understood. It was my opening offer since he requested “young Alpha WR”. He has been trying to move JT for a few weeks. Previously offered Kupp/McLaurin. So not sure what he is after now. He is tied 1st at 7-3 (3 teams in 12 T) but needs WR help (he has nothing after Chase Nico and can start 5 WR)
What would JT owners need in WR to move him?

Just offered an early third round pick and Michael Carter(who I'd need to cut) for Moss. Sincerely hope if it's accepted that Taylor plays this week or next and makes me eat a third.

I did trade Moss away myself in week 10. Had no QB with Mahomes on bye and only two on the wire were Zach Wilson and AOC and I was struggling with someone to cut. So traded Moss to the Taylor owner for Russ Wilson. Was a waste, I might as well as not started a QB and could really use Moss. Sigh.
