RB Kaleb Johnson, PIT (1 Viewer)

Kaleb Johnson rushed six times for 22 yards in the Steelers’ Week 4 win over the Vikings.

Johnson didn’t touch the ball in Week 3 after making an egregious special teams mistake in Week 2. With Jaylen Warren out for today’s game, Johnson was elevated to RB2 duties versus Minnesota. He looked solid on the ground but did drop his only target. It was a step in the right direction for the rookie, even if he doesn’t have any fantasy appeal heading into the Steelers’ Week 5 bye.

It's over. Droppable after this game IMHO.
I disagree. Gainwell obviously in the driver seat now but this showed some life for him.

If you’ve been holding this whole time, then I don’t know why you’d drop now. He’s out of the dog house and Warren is hurt. While Gainwell had a nice game, we know what he is and it’s nothing special.

There’s probably no position that is more about opportunity than RB.

The problem is not only does he have to overtake Jaylen Warren, but Tomlin doesn’t seem to have a problem giving Gainwell the majority of touches if he needs to. I just don’t see a path for Johnson to be relevant this year.

redraft or dynasty @bolzano ?

If Dynasty, sure you hold him. If redraft, he got 11-53 snaps (21%) with Warren out. They basically made Gainwell a bellcow and he responded with a great effort. At this point it may be weeks before Johnson has a legit shot at relevance. Even Nathna Jahnke made the point "Several rookie running backs are one injury away from being the starter, but in Pittsburgh, it will take two injuries for Johnson to provide fantasy value. While there is a decent chance he can earn some playing time as the season progresses, that would either make the Steelers a three-man committee or he would cut into Gainwell’s playing time. Either way, that won’t be enough playing time to be worth starting in fantasy leagues."

Redraft. The league I own him in is a 12-teamer with 8 bench spots, for example. I’ve held him because there’s not much on the WW.

Feel free to drop him in fairly standard leagues. But I wouldn’t have thought he’d be owned in those formats anyway.

not to go off-topic, but 12-teamer and nothing on waivers? Surely a Chris Rodriguez Jr. or Rico Dowdle is available. I'm in a 16 teamer w/ Double Flex and I'd drop him. How many bench spots are in your league @bolzano ? We have 4 + IR.

I picked him up at pick 1.07 in dynasty before the season with plans on just sitting him, having a patient wait and see approach and nothing has yet to change my mind on him in that type of league.

That league has 8 bench spots. You named two of the better RBs on the WW. I may put a claim on Rodriguez, as I also own Croskey-Merritt. Another intriguing option is Tahj Brooks. I think both are JAGs though.

But yeah, that one hasn’t had guys like Benson, Skattebo, and Marks as options, They we’re all drafted. So I’m kinda picking between players with major warts.
