RB Latavius Murray, BUF (1 Viewer)

Raiders running back Latavius Murray is "feeling better every day," according to CSN.

Murray was able to return to practice on Wednesday, but has not been cleared to return from his concussion just yet. Despite that, Murray seems optimistic about his status. "I've felt fine, and I'm feeling better each day," Murray said. "With these kind of things you have to take it one day at a time and follow the right procedures." Murray was on his way to a huge game before leaving with the injury Week 12.

Agree he's not an RB1 yet. People are getting giddy. But let's also not dismiss this as a "trap" game or that the KC defense conveniently just decided not to show up. I'm not buying that. This is the defense that was going to set an NFL record for holding a team without a rushing TD through 11 games. Then they met Latavius and he gashed them for scores. This wasn't a fluke.
The Chiefs not giving up a running TD was a bit of a fluke. They actually have been pretty weak vs the Run all year. They rank 27th in terms of rushing yards allowed per game and I think opposing RB's are averaging like 5 yards per carry against them.
This got me to look at the Rams ypc. St. Louis is right next to KC in FFP allowed to RBs (24th most, low), but they are tied for 5th most ypc allowed, at 4.4.

The has Raiders disaster written all over it but I don't have much of a choice. If Murray's healthy, I'm certain they will still trot DMC out there and give some asinine reason Murray rides the bench. The Raiders just don't have any sense.
Bucha dummies. They've been a mess all year. From signing a QB that's just getting worse to a long term contract, then trying to shoehorn that same QB into an offense he clearly can't run, to giving an average DE a big contract, only to watch him blow out his knee celebrating the first positive thing he did all year, these guys clearly don't have a clue.

LOL RAIDERS!!!!

My only other decent option in a PPR (return yards too) league is Sproles playing today and I can't risk Murray having a set back.

Hopefully Murray is full go though.

The lone Raiders skill-position player worth a serious look is Latavius Murray, who has averaged nearly 12 yards per carry on 14 rushing attempts this season, and broke out with a pair of touchdowns in last Thursday night's upset of Kansas City. Murray is huge and fast, and easily Oakland's top running back talent. The Rams played stout run defense in their previous three games, but sprung some leaks in last week's loss to San Diego as Ryan Mathews, Branden Oliver, and Donald Brown combined for 129 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries (6.79 YPC). Murray is a boom-or-bust flex option in this game.

He's been ruled out per Roto.....failed his final concussion test.

It was a sick shot to the head but it's impossible to know how Murray will respond. He could be fine next week or he could be out the rest of the year.

Dropping him in redraft.

This was one of his more favorable matchups and without more clarity as to what his role is you would be crazy to start against SF. Then he has a decent matchup on paper at KC, but one I don't like as a revenge game where they will be ready for Murray. That leaves the Bills week 16 which isn't all that good of a matchup.

ALAMEDA –- Raiders running back Latavius Murray has been formally ruled out of Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams.

Interim head coach Tony Sparano said that Murray did not pass the final portion of the NFL’s concussion-related protocol, a series of tests that must be taken before being cleared to practice and play.

Murray passed enough tests to practice in a limited role on Wednesday and Thursday.

He was held out of practice on Friday, which seems to be a setback on his road to recovery.

“There’s a specific protocol you go through,” Sparano said. “… He’s not playing in the game. I’m being as honest as I can with you. There’s a specific protocol and, along the lines of the protocol, there is an amount that they can do. He has taken that amount, but the final step of the process, that didn’t work. At that point, you’ve got to, ‘A,’ abide by the rule, ‘B,’ you’ve got to make the decision as the coach, too.” The Raiders planned on exercising caution with Murray, and didn’t want to rush him back despite a dazzling performance last week against the Kansas City Chiefs. He had 112 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries in that game before suffering a concussion, which left Raiders fans wanting more.

They hoped to see Murray for an extended stretch on Sunday, but that itch won’t get scratched right away.

The Raiders are expected to use a mix of Darren McFadden, Marcel Reece and Maurice Jones-Drew at tailback against the Rams. McFadden should start, but Sparano said that carries will be distributed based upon game flow and situational football.

Reece, who declined an interview request after Friday’s workout, was particularly effective against the Chiefs and should see increased snaps as a primary tailback with Murray out.

“We’ll see,” Sparano said. “He ran the ball well. He should get carries.”

I’m being as honest as I can with you.
Uh, who said you weren't being honest, Tony? Odd thing to say.

don't understand this. why would you have played him here and won't play him next week? He just destroyed KC on 4 carries and then gets them again in the playoffs, that could be a huge game. I think the eye test on those 2 TDs and the runs the week before show this guy could be something special. you should hold on

First, because I either was (a) going to play him this week since I have less to lose with it not being playoffs yet, or (b) I was going to possibly sit him and see what he did this week to determine my confidence in starting him next week. The only way I was going to trust playing him in the first round of the playoffs against KC was if he played this week and the coaching staff showed they are committed to giving him enough carries going forward for him to be a more trustworthy option, rather than one you had to rely on breaking a long one or for a TD on an extremely small number of carries, which is too risky IMO.

He obviously looked great on 4 carries against KC last week, but without any more clarity as to his role I wouldn't roll the dice and play him because if he only gets ~4-6 carries again next week, it's unlikely he will have anywhere near the same results as the first time. It's way too small a sample size and he's almost surely going to regress significantly as he's unlikely to be busting one for 90 yards and score 2 TDs on that many carries. Plus, KC defense will likely play better at home and will definitely be ready for Murray this go-round.

I'm also not one to underestimate the ineptness of Sporano/the Raider's coaching staff, and carries on the field are the only thing I'm going to trust to show that they're going to give him a dependable work load. Without this week, all we have is coachspeak to rely on...from a Raiders organization that benched this kid almost the entire season behind the corpses of DMC and MJD. That's not something I'm going to risk relying upon in the most important stretch of the season.

I personally dropped him, but I would have held onto him if i didn't have other roster needs (TE for this week with Allen out, and BAL streaming D for week 15). So, if your roster needs allow you to hold him and you either have balls of steel or few options going into the playoffs, then I can see him being worth the spot for the right team.

Tough matchup against SF but if they show they are committed to getting him the ball this week then next week @KC is a start with confidence.
