Eagles coach Andy Reid announced Friday that Michael Vick, cornerback Asante Samuel, and wide receiver Riley Cooper would all miss Sunday night's game against the 49ers.

That's the bad news.

The good news is that dynamic running back LeSean McCoy returned to practice on Friday and is now expected to play a "full game" according to Reid. McCoy suffered a rib injury last week in the loss to the Redskins.

Through four weeks, McCoy's impressive development has been one of the highlights of the Eagles offense. It's early, but he's improved his pass protection and is doing a fair Brian Westbrook impression otherwise. McCoy is fifth among running backs in yards from scrimmage and second among running backs with 23 catches.

Emphasis on two days ago. Looking for more current confirmation.

Despite coach Andy Reid's claims that LeSean McCoy (rib, questionable) will be a "full go" for Sunday Night Football against the 49ers, the Philadelphia Daily News foresees an expanded role for Mike Bell.

The Daily News is just guessing, but it's realistic to think that the Eagles could use Bell as the primary inside runner with McCoy being limited to in-space situations instead of risking him aggravating his injury in a pileup or with multiple defenders tackling McCoy. The 49ers are playing tough run defense, so consider McCoy more of a low-end RB2 or flex than an RB1.

Mccoy already commented earlier this week that the Flak jacket didnt bother (limit) him.

my question was actually meant to be more general, because I and maybe some others don't know much about what flak jackets do to a player's ability to play well. Sorry if I wasn't clear -- was really asking if a flak jacket tends to limit a RB's ability to play well. Like in McCoy's case.

When a running back plays with a rib injury, he is almost always forced to wear some sort of protection on his chest –usually a flak jacket. Players have complained in the past that the jacket is bothersome, or prevents them from having the same amount of flexibility that they're accustomed to.

But McCoy disagrees, as he thinks the flak jacket has actually helped him this week in practice.

"It feels good," McCoy said. "Actually, it helps me out a lot. It fits me tight so any lateral movement I'll be fine. Like I said, I have the right gear and I'll be ready to roll."

Probably player dependent. Some players don't want any extra padding -- no more hip pads, thigh pads, skinny shoulder pads, etc. Some don't care as much.

I'd guess that the flak jackets are thinner than they were years ago, so it probably doesn't matter much to today's QB and RB.

One thing is that flak jackets slightly increase the chances of fumbling, since backs can't secure the ball as tightly to their body.

Yeah this be in assistant coach and I posted it there but alas that's a ghost town at 7pm on Sunday.

Gonna be a tough call. No Vick though makes me wonder if he'll get real running lanes tonight.

LeSean McCoy is active for Sunday night's clash with the 49ers.

Eagles coach Andy Reid has promised a "full go" workload for McCoy. It's a difficult matchup, but you're obviously going to use McCoy if you've waited this long for him. He's a better fantasy play than other late-game running backs like Shonn Greene, Mike Bell, or Toby Gerhart. McCoy caught 12 passes in Week 4, most from Kevin Kolb. Kolb is getting the start tonight.
