The Athletic parsed Bill's words from his post-practice pressers and he seems to want his backs (Harris and Stevenson) to stay on the field on third downs. Talked about pass pro and route running and their importance and how those two were getting better at it, explicitly saying that those things allow you to stay on the field. Good news for Stevenson and Harris.

My first reaction was, what rogue nonsense did he link that is causing him to split hairs on a couple of...holy expletive!, as you read this you start gulping a little louder and with some of the underground reporting in the media currently like the Brady to Miami Dolphins story Florio and other reported on mostly went unreported by ESPN etc and it proved to be true and they still don't discuss it.
Hair on the back of my neck when I started reading Trent Brown signed for $6.5M with $1.5M in base and didn't know he was being thought of at LT, what did he think they were planning for him? Very Bill Belichick to not reveal the downside of him giving you the money. He doesn't care where he shuffles you along the OL and it wouldn't shock me if they acted like he was playing RT or OG and suddenly informed he's the Left Tackle.
I'm still reading this, fascinating information, thank you for taking the time.

It's always nice when FF writers catch up to what some of us have been on for months. Stevenson was obviously the better RB last year, IMO. I'm not sure why this update would shock anyone. 
I have him as my RB4, and I'm delighted. He'll either be a BYE week flex play or trade bait if something happens to one of my other players.

Yeah. He’s my RB3, but I went RB/RB to start my draft, so I like my 1-2 punch out front. Was filling in my middle rounds with WR talent and then took Rahmondre in the 7th followed by a bunch of lotto tickets.
I drafted him last year and solely remember his entrance into Bill Bellichecks doghouse fumbling his first carry.

There was nothing offensive about it - you can think what you like, it was a factual statement. I got very lucky and there was a huge run on LB/DL between picks, so I got him in the 7th as well. Seems like that was his ADP last weekend.
Yeah - I am always weary of BB running backs.

Decided to ignore this guy and his sky-rocketing ADP, all out of proportion with historically how BB uses his RBs, and took Harris in like the 14th round. If it doesn't work out and Stevenson is the second coming, oh well, can live with it. Just wasn't prepared to pay the escalating cost.

I'd read about the glowing thoughts on him and had him somewhat pencilled in, in my mind, around the 8th or 9th round as a decent spot where some value mitigates cost. He went in the 6th of my 10 teamer last week. I was dumbfounded. Then again, the same guy took Kelce third overall and Akers went in round 2 of our draft so I should have suspected something might be up

He probably did, Kelce is great and all but third with all RBs except Taylor and Henry on the board still, I just couldn't do, especially with no ppr and no special TE scoring. He's one of those guys who is always up on the very latest trends during draft season and always takes guys super early. That's fine though as other, often more proven, players fall as a result.

I do think the hype's a bit much, and while I didn't watch a ton of Pats last year, from what I did watch Stevenson and Harris both looked solid. No idea how this will play out. Have Stevenson in 2 leagues and Harris in 1 so I'll root for team Stevenson, but as long as one of them is startable on a weekly basis I'm cool with that.

I feel similarly. It's highly possible, even likely, that Stevenson will end up being the back to own. But when one is going in the 6th and the other is still sitting there 7-8 rounds later and could be just as useful, it's hard to swallow the cost.

Your league might have been an extreme example. Harris ADP on Draft Sharks us 77, while Stevenson's is 88. I took Stevenson in the 7th, which is a bit of a reach according to that, and Harris went in the 9th, which would be a big value, ADP-wise.
So at the end of the day I played a hunch, and maybe will end up with egg on my face over it. I can live with that - based on my draft circumstance I went for upside, and wasn't sure either would make it back to me.

We drafted a few weeks ago. Harris went in the 5th. Stevenson in the 7th. Redraft.
That feels pretty early for Harris, but the owner is actually a pretty savvy FF player with a pretty solid overall team. So I’d have to ask him, but maybe he just liked Harris a lot there.
Went surrounded by Dobbins, CEH, Gibson , Pollard, Penny.

That's the thing about these 1A/1B backfields. They can end up both providing value in the right situation, or they can both end up sucking. It's each guy vs. the rest of the league, not vs. each other.

In our 7th -- a bunch of QB's went, I took Stevenson 7.05 --then Harris went 7.07 -- Penny 7.10

Yeah - that’s actually how I expected it to go in my league - soon as I took Stevenson I expected Harris to go.
But strange things happen in IDP leagues. I actually considered doubling up, but had more important positions to address.

I burned back to back picks on both Pats RBs last week in a standard redraft. There appeared to be a pretty big drop off at RB after them. Hate using two picks but if the situation clarified itself and it’s not an even timeshare then it will have been worth it. Everyone says Pats RBs are a nightmare but Harris was huge down the stretch last year…

I am not sure I agree with the approach. I don't think this backfield is so sizzling you want both guys, but depends on the guys you ignored to take these 2. I took Stevenson for upside and not because I want a ton of shares of this backfield, but who knows.
Interesting thread. I was not a fan of drafting any NE backs. I haven't had good luck in the past with that. But Stevenson was sitting in my 12 team redraft in round 9 so I took him 9.10. Honestly I wasn't excited by it but maybe I did something smart for a change. LOL. Hoping some of the optimism here is based on reality.

You can do a lot worse in the 9th round. He’s as good a flyer as any around that time and has a lot of positive praise for the coaching staff. Looked good last year. And is in his second year where RBs can take a step forward.
Drafting him in the 7-10 rounds likely means people like you and I don’t need him to start right away. And can see what the split between him and Harris looks like those first few weeks.

Thanks. I am not starting him now so that's the good news. The bad news is I am weak at RB this year. They seemed to jump off the board faster than usual. With the 10th pick in a non-ppr redraft I took Ja'Marr Chase instead of my usual RB-RB in the first 2 rounds and wound up with Chubb, E Mitchel, AJ Dillon and then Stevenson. So I am hopeful that when inevtiable injuries or poor play set in on my roster he has emerged to filling a spot.
