My friend, I have them both in many redrafts, one or the other and when Harris went down a lot of folks just plain cut him after RS had his game last week.
-I appreciate your jokes about NE and Coach BB, I believe you truly believe that.
-I say this with a warm smile but if you think the game plan is to somehow NOT use Stevenson for whatever reasons, that's far fetched.
Fact is the Patriots have 2 strong RBs that can carry a large load on Sundays when they need to but a combo of those 2 RBs depending on situations is giving the Patriots the luxury of rolling Jones or Zappe and having a legit chance to win most weeks. Coach BB still calls a great defense most weeks, especially against average coaching across the field from him. I don't like Coach BB, think he's a cheater, yada yada yada but he's impressed. lot this season, possibly some of his best coaching I've seen, don't know the names of too many of their players and he likes it that way.
Relax, RS will get plenty of chances to run on MNF, Coach BB seems very head strong in NOT ALLOWING his young QB/RBs to mentally feel like they are injured, he wants them believing and the other team that they can withstand a certain amount of pain. I doubt Harris feels great wherever his injury was, same for Mac Jones and yet they run them thru practices and try to make it appear that they could use these guys if they desire or choose to do so.
i'm sure a long time in here like you, this is not news o you but it's good to read a fresh post, @Anarchy99 has been a huge resource for Pats' running game and despite the anger towards Coach BB, there are teams that are more difficult to figure out. The 2 RB system reminds me of the Cleveland Browns in the Mid 80s with Byner and Mack , one of the best tandems ever.

Same dilemma and I'm going Stevenson this week, and probably never again afterward as long as Harris is healthy.
Even with Harris back, I see no reason Stevenson won't see 20 touches this week, NE is going to lead throughout, and probably have 30-40 rush attempts against a Bears team that might not score 10 points this week.

Stevenson already took over the passing-down snaps before Harris was injured, so tough to say how much of this utilization was game script.
Worst case, high-end RB2. If this sticks mid-range RB1.rest of way.

Stud. Lock and loaded no-brainer RB2.
Probably but not 100% sold he's going to keep up this share of the workload. While he's been good for fantasy, he hasn't exactly lit it up the last 2 weeks against 2 of the worst rushing defenses in the league. This week will be more telling, assuming Harris is fully healthy. Has a nice floor though, at least for as long as Montgomery is out.

He’s on pace for 1500+ YFS, 60 receptions, and 10 TD. He should have more snaps and touches than Harris. The only thing which is sketchy is how many TD chances he’ll get.
That pace is driven by the last 3 games, which were against awful defenses and without a healthy Harris for most of it. There's a big difference between having a ~55% share vs. a ~85% one, plus as you said, the TD chances are unknown, and those are pretty important.
Certainly has potential to be a stud but I don't think it's a given that he's pushed Harris aside (if healthy).

He's currently a Top 10 RB with some inflated numbers with Harris being out. However, his percentage of snaps and touches had been trending up since the middle of last season. He should see a 60%/40% split of the workload. On the plus side, he should see 80% of the receiving attempts, while on the minus side he'll probably only get 40% of the red zone carries. Factoring all that in, he should still be a fantasy RB2 the rest of the way (so Top 25).
NE playing from behind may limit his carries, but like last night, it could give him a big boost in receptions and receiving yards (and keep Harris off the field). Does it really make much difference if a RB gets 30 rushing yards and 70 receiving yards vs. 70 rushing yards and 30 receiving yards? In PPR leagues, catching more passes will help his stock, not hurt it.

FBG has him RB10 ROS. I think more 16-20 myself. How much from yesterday was because script and Harris being rushed back because Bill thinks he’s a mastermind with the injury report.

IMO, there is a difference in where guys might be ranked ROS vs. their expected end of the season ranking. I don't think RS ending the season in the 16-20 range is unreasonable, but I don't know if I would name 15 guys that will sure fire finish ahead of him.

Not trying to be overreactive but is Harris droppable in redraft? I know last night's game was first game after a hamstring tweak but RS has clearly taken over majority of work, don't see that changing barring injury.

Probably not, but it depends on bench size & the rest of your roster.
If Stevenson gets dinged up, Harris is going to see high volume.

As much fun as RS has been for a few weeks now, the Patriots value Harris and perhaps he isn't as fast as RS, perhaps he isn't as good at breaking tackles and wowing fans in the stands but he notched 15 rushing TDs a year ago with a rookie QB, don't try and paint him as a stiff, he's not. They make a wonderful 1-2 punch at RB.
I bet fans in the early 70s must have thought Mercury Morris should have touched the ball more for the Miami Dolphins, certainly should have Jim Kiick's touches with his elusiveness and speed but yet the Miami Dolphins went to 3 straight Super Bowls VI-VII and VIII mostly hiding the football in Larry Csonka's forearm.
The Patriots are going to do what is best for them to win the football game each and every week, they don't look at the stats the same way we do, I promise. RS has 50 touches in 2 games on a Bill Belichick coached football team that just got roasted on Primetime 33-14, doesn't appear like more Stevenson is the absolute key to their success, but he is a part of it for sure.

If NE is honest, they will conclude this season is more of a developmental year and look to better position themselves for the future. Harris is unlikely to be back next season, so it would make sense to trade him before the deadline. Other guys like Agholor and Bourne should be moved as well (there's been interest in both guys). Clear some cap space (that they could roll over into next year) and give some other players a look. If NE loses to the Jets, they might be sellers at the deadline (Tuesday).

Heard an interesting discussion about RS this morning on the radio. They said he's worked on his receiving skills for over a year on reading defenses, picking up pass rushers, taking the proper angles, running to the open spot, being in position to catch the ball / footwork, etc. They also said they are string to give him some James White concepts (putting him in motion, lining him up as a receiver, giving him some deeper routes as a receiver not just a safety valve, trying to get him in single coverage on a LBer, etc. He is said to have great hands, catches everything, and has a huge catch radius. If NE is ever going to have a featured, 3 down RB, it will be Stevenson next season. BTW, in the Colts game, they were doubling him out of the backfield. That shows that teams are starting to pay attention to his receiving skills.

I did the same thing…targeted Dillon, then Stevenson, Pollard, Edmonds and Herbert at the end. 50% hit rate but a top 10 back and top 10/20 back with Pollard for midround picks

tough call, I lean Stevenson but Wilson is looking like a stud RB1 even with Mostert in the picture. Glad I have both in my one league.
I would do that in a heartbeat.
Stevenson is a stud. Future star. Harris being phased out. NE offense revolves around Stevenson.
Who knows if the pendulum swings back to Mostert. And WIlson is just about due to get dinged.
Think you upgraded at 2 spots.

One of those rare birds that has both of the main cogs at RB and even have Parris at WR, just grabbed him because of injuries and bye weeks.
I watch Miami religiously, Wilson is the best thing we've seen since like Ricky Williams and i understand the injury history and the likelihood of him making it the entire way, but we're here discussing this. Stevenson has been red hot for weeks now if not months. I had to cut Harris inside of the first couple weeks of the season because someone gave up on RS and I didn't flinch, others thought I was nuts but low and behold it has been one of my better moves this year. Huge RS supporter, also the first to tell you that it could start to be a larger share with him and Harris, who has been nursing injuries I might remind folks. Not likely to be re-signed by the Pats, Harris is disposable which means if they care about RS, as they move closer and they secure a potential Playoff spot, RS is going to need some rest. Belichick isn't going to announce it.

Like both RBs, like RS more, both of them have vultures lurking beside them.

RS has been slightly less productive the last couple weeks and 15 carries for 26 yds when Harris ran for about 7-8 yds a clip does not help.
That said, the Patriots have a lot to work with in terms of tape on RS, they know what they have and he is the lead RB and has 24 receptions over the last 4 games, think of how many yds harris would have to accumulate to pass him in total points for FF each week, not happening.
RS faced a tough run defense, think he will be much more productive vs the Vikings, don't care if they got torched 40-3, Belichick will have his troops prepared for Thursday
Bad News: The starting Center-Andrews suffered a pretty bad injury and might be lost for the season.
MoP thinks if you still allow trades in your league this late...Top 10 RBs don't become available often this late into the season, if you had a good stack of RBs, you could get a WR in return that might help you. RS is going to be a shaky start if you have 2 or 3 other RBs you like already on your team.
Just some of my thoughts on Tuesday while we there is still time to discuss. That Andrews injury should have been posted in this thread already so I'm guessing half your league has no idea. It's going to impact the running game for sure.

Harris reclaiming the lead dog role in NE isn't really a thing. As I mentioned yesterday, Harris had two plays that accounted for a total of 50+ yards with good blocking on a fraction of snaps compared to RS. Stevenson was getting hit two yards in the backfield on almost every carry.
I just posted about the upcoming Vikings game in the NE master thread. Andrews already missed two games this year and RS had a total of 213 YFS, 10 catches, and a TD in those games.
The Andrews injury won't help any, but it's having multiple injuries to the OL that will have a more cumulative negative impact. I would expect NE will adjust by having some sets with 2 TEs or an extra OLman in to block. MIN hasn't been great this month, allowing 154 rushing yds/gm.
The biggest issue involving Stevenson is not running the ball . . . it's catching it. The Colts doubled him coming out of the backfield. If teams continue to do that, Stevenson's upside will be limited. Lately, he's been getting a ton of receptions and receiving yards, so that makes up for games when he treads water running the ball. 50 yards rushing and 50 yards receiving with 5 catches and a 50/50 chance of getting in the end zone is still a decent fantasy day.

In a dramatic turn of events, Andrews is back and actively practicing today. He will try to give it a go and play Thursday night against Minnesota. Clearly his injury is not as bad as initially reported. Good news for Stevenson and the rest of the Patriots offense.

I can't figure out what a "thigh injury" is that would require crutches.
It's the Pats, so he probably lacerated an artery and died, but they'll list him as "questionable" for ROS.
Seriously though - I took a cleat to the thigh back when I played soccer, and it hurt like a MF, but I didn't need crutches to walk - there's something wonky here.

I ruptured my rectus femoris, had difficulty walking, and couldn't drive a stick for a bit. If he has a significant injury like this, I imagine he will have it surgically repaired. Not saying this is his injury, but there are certainly injuries to the quadriceps that can cause someone to use crutches.

Quad for sure, but I’m not sure what there is on the thigh that would cause this. I’m very interested in the next update - hopefully they specify.
