RB Roschon Johnson, CHI (3 Viewers)

Roschon had the majority of his touches in garbage time.
While true in week 1, that could very well change.
It's the beauty and madness of this thing we enjoy. None of us know. We try. We read tea leaves and media comments and form opinions. In the end week 2 could see Herbert with 20 carries and Roschon with 2. Or it could see Roschon with 20 carries and Herbert with 2.
No doubt. I’m waiting for more clarity on the situation, but had to like how hard Roschon ran even in garbage time, and I’m sure the staff did too. Whether that results in more playing time remains to be seen, but by most accounts he did seem to show out well in his debut.

I will say in my time in this specific debate what kinda surprises me is how quickly the Roschon people are discarding Herbert. In two seasons in the league he has a career average of a hair under 5. Dudes been solid. Decent speed, power and vision. If this was the case of a great looking rookie and some aging veteran like the Zeke and Pollard thing I get it. Herbert is 25. Should be a fun battle to watch unfold. Please remember I have no shares and just like the conversation.

As a Herbert owner and non owner of R. Johnson I'm getting nervous.

Thinking of trying to acquire R. Johnson someway. Have a couple backs I could offer...McKinnon or Z. Moss.

Something tells me R. Johnson is going to be the guy 2nd half of year.
If dynasty no way those two get it done and probably not in redraft either.

I own Herbert in one league redraft league and Herbert and Roschon in another.

Roschon had the majority of his touches in garbage time. I still believe in Herbert, he averaged 3.7 ypc after contact last year. For runningbacks that had more than 100 carries he was #3 in the league in YPC after contact, behind Tony Pollard and Rhamondre Stevenson.

I think Herbert is the best bet for a RB playing behind the bears terrible offensive line.
I agree that Herbert is a good back, but here’s the thing. The OL was expected to be better, it might actually be worse. Nate Davis didn’t practice at all in training camp, nobody knows why. Wasn’t good Sunday. No Jenkins. We have no center, Patrick has been putrid. They’ll have to move Whitehair back to Center. Braxton was exposed and he regressed in preseason and throughout camp. Probably why he was a 5th rounder?

I preface this because the Bears need to decide whether they’ll pick up Fields 5th year option and even more importantly, whether or not to extend him long term. Roschon is a supreme blocker, Fields needs all the help he can get. I think they want to know if he can be a QB and not just hand the ball off 30x a game. Nothing wrong with Herbert, but Roschons skillset fits so well with what the Bears, and more importantly, what Fields needs. We shall see.

Agree with everything you said…BUT... In the spirit of debate :-)… I had Montgomery last year and I watched as the Herbert owners kept asking why Herbert wasn’t starting over Montgomery. I personally think the answer is pretty simple… head coaches aren’t plays fantasy football. They not only need their RBs to have a decent yard per carry but they also need the RB to be able to catch the ball and more importantly, pass protect. Last year, Herbert was not good at either so that’s why they kept trotting Montgomery out there despite the difference in the ypc. So unless Herbert has gotten significantly better in pass pro and receiving, I’m expecting either Foreman or Roschon to start taking more of the workload. Especially if the OLine continues to look as bad as it did in week 1. If Fields isn’t kept upright, it’ll be a long season. Full disclosure… I drafted Roschon in the rookie draft specifically because I saw what was happening last year as a Montgomery owner.

This discussion is making me sour on BOTH Johnson and Herbert. Didn't realize their O line was such a mess.

In dynasty I'm a win-now contender. Herbert owner has offered me Montgomery for Roschon. I'm probably turning it down, though I thought it was a fair offer.

Win now Id take that offer. Monty has a defined role in an offense with a stellar o-line.
I still might.
For context I already have Ekeler, Breece, Rhamondre, and fairly stacked at WR/TE. So he wouldn't be a clear improvement to my lineup, even though we have several flex spots.

The offense as a whole are noticeably bad blockers

Thats tough but I don't think I could do it. FWIW ktc has Montgomery on the winning side slightly but Roschon has three down potential and looked great week one.

I said eventually it would happen just didn’t think it would be this quick. Will be interesting to see what type of split with Herbert he gets. I know they’re going to want Roschon’s blocking today.

So Travis Homer is suiting up ahead of Foreman?
Homer was brought here primarily for special teams and potentially 3rd down work. But of course he was signed prior to Roschon falling into the Bears lap and being drafted. That pretty much made Homer and ft special teamer. I’d expect his role to be that today and moving forward.

Roschon Johnson is a guy I love and am targeting, but I can understand it if you're not playing him yet. I actually am playing him in one league where I'm very thin at RB.

I mean I don't think he's a horrible play if you are hurting at RB. Obviously I'd prefer to wait a few more weeks but I'm happy he's on my squads.

In a ten team it’s weird because a bunch of FAs should obviously be rostered. I’m gonna grab him over Bourne, Zay Jones, and Shaheed. A possible starting RB is still a possible starting RB correct? Although I def need WR help.

Today is a big day for his owners. If he's a big part of the offense, we have at worst, a strong flex option this year that you probably got late. :pickle:

So I guess we wait another week for the Roschon experience to take shape? Ha ha

Herbert: 7 carries for 35. 1 catch 23 yards.

Johnson. 4 carries 32. 2 catch for 10 yards.

Just surprised how bad Chicago offense looks overall. On a offense with a questionable passing QB u have 12 non QB rushing attempts? The game was close for the most part and yet the leading rusher had 7 attempts? 7? Hard to gage anything of value from this week othe then the Bears are bad. Abort.

ya, the entire offense and play calling seem to be a mess.

I might be one of the few people that think Fields can be a solid NFL QB. I got nothing really against Eberflus, but why in the world would you bring in a defensive guy and not an offensive guy? Fields journey is the clear path to success or failure of this franchise and you bring in a guy known to turn defenses around.

I thought the bears would go with a run heavy offense like Atlanta but they dont have the offensive line to replicate that

Agreed. Even so, in a close game u gotta run the ball some.

It's mindboggling they had the recipe right last year, and now are actively trying to avoid it. There's no way it continues this way. Either the scheme and play calling change, or the coaching staff does. Soon as they get back to speeding up the game, running more plays more quickly, designed runs for Fields, it will open up the run game for the backs as well. Unfortunately Fields obviously needs strong coaching off the field as well to really improve on his processing and mental errors. But I think we've seen countless other times, a good amount can be done just through building his confidence up through an offensive scheme that sets up easy wins for him and keeps the defense more on their heels. Weeks 7-18 last season once the scheme changed Fields improved almost universally. Completion percentage, TD percentage, INT, and passer rating. He's not making a Jalen Hurts jump, but he's shown he's capable of at the very least being a competant QB who with his rushing can be a top 6 fantasy QB. And I think if (hopefully when) this changes, Roschon will be the primary benefactor. Their line will still be butt, so his pass blocking will help tremendously. And running more up tempo, his receiving skills as a check down option will also be a boon. They need a damn coaching staff though.

Yeah same old Bears playcalling issues since forever. And Fields looks like he really took a step back to me in terms of his pocket presence or lack thereof. I'm not feeling good about this one bit.

Roschon Johnson Snap Share by Week:

Week 1: 39%
Week 2: 42%
Week 3: 45%

Only a matter of time til he takes over...
Week 4: 48%
Week 5: 51% (We did it!)

I could see him having his best game to date against the broncos. Low appeal Flex atm but things tend to settle as the year goes on. RoJo being used more is prolly best for everyone on the bears. Hopefully by winter and playoffs he is a solid rb2 option

In a ten team I’m trying to add Josh Palmer and dropping Roschon over Jaylen Warren. I don’t know what’s worse, the RB1 on this bears offense or the potential RB1 in the Steelers offense.

Another one of my early season misses. They clearly want him involved. Getting way more snaps and touches then I thought he would. I will say I still see it as a 50/50 split with Herbert barring injury.

The time feels right to be giving this man a shot in the flex. If you need a shot in the dark due to injury or shallow depth, take it on Johnson this week against Denver. The man is trucking defenders in open space every chance he gets, and this should be a telling week as to his personal mindset for how far he wants to go. You have to believe seeing what the Miami RBs did to Denver, if he has the appetite to be elite, he will take the opportunity this week to the fullest that he can. If none of my waiver claims go through this week, I'll be banking on it. And frankly, I still might!
