How has Gruden been jerking cousins around? Is he the general manager?

And I'm not sure I believe that Perine was benched for a fumble in his first preseason game. Although Kelley has definitely shown an acumen for holding onto the ball which is part of the reason I think he's the primary back in Washington.

My guess is Perine isn't seeing the field is because Gruden has concerns about his ability to protect the 25 million dollar quarterback that is apparently being jerked around.

If Gruden was really behind Cousins, the team would get a deal done. Coaches don't make the final call, but they have a lot of influence.

 
Hard to get too excited about any Washington RB.  Seems like they haven't produced a decent fantasy starter since Alf Morris' first few seasons.

That's a pretty thin argument. Both sides need to be amenable in a negotiation and Cousins had all the power, not Washington. He's making out like a bandit so far on the franchise tag. I think he's pocketed $43 million fully guaranteed this season and last season and next year he can either be a free agent or he gets tagged again for something like $29 mil.  Has any QB earned $72 million guaranteed over three seasons?  Say what you will about Kirk Cousins but "jerked around" really doesn't qualify.  It would have been absolutely in Washington's best interest to get him under contract, and maybe they went too low on their offers but the bottom line is Cousins was in a position to reject anything below $43 million over two seasons and $72 million over three. (my numbers may be off, but only slightly).

If anything Cousins is jerking Washington around.

Okay but there are miles-and-miles of ground between not forgetting and permanently benching your promising rookie after a fumble in his first preseason game.

i dont think hes perma benched.  but man they have sat him a good while for that one mistake.   seems really dumb and short sighted.  unless hes doing it in practice too, which would make more sense

Again all I'm saying is that I sincerely doubt that one mistake, in a preseason game no less, is the reason he didn't see the field last week.

I'm cutting bait in redraft. Gruden doesn't commit to the enough for even a bell cow to have much value. Then you throw all three of these in to the mix. What's 14 carries a game divided by 3? 

 
Hey guys, what do you think about how Andy Reid didn't bench Hunt after a fumble? I think it's relevant here. Just me?

...not in Washington, they don't. It pains me greatly to say it, but it's the absolute truth.

 
Did not see the game but I just looked at the play by play and it looks like a mixed bag.  He got stuffed a lot but had some decent runs of 5+ yards.

He had 3 carries for 10 yards before Rob got dinged.  Rob was actually doing pretty well.

3.2 YPC ain't great, but I think he will settle in and start producing more.  He will get to practice with the 1's this week with Fat boy nursing his rib.

Chris Thompson looks like the RB to own for fantasy (for now).  Perine should be a good stash and give him a game or two and see if things start to get better.

 
It was Kelley's best game in a long time.  He looked very good until the injury.  He was well on his way to 100+.  Perine was ok in limited action at that point.

Once Kelley was out and the Skins were committed to running the ball with a second-half lead, the holes dried up for Perine. 

Perine was ok, but not nearly as good as Kelley.  If healthy, Kelley remains the guy for now.

Does he? He's averaging 3 carries and 3.5 rec per game this season. Call me crazy, but I wouldn't want to chase those points with that kind of volume.

Back to the main topic, I still like Perine here. The fumbling issue is way overblown and I know Rob had a big game, but he's just running through holes. At one point he only had a DB to beat and the DB stuck him. Rob has no elusiveness at all. For a big dude, I'd expect better yards after contact. Either run the dude over, juke him, or break the tackle. I should note that I didn't watch the whole game - just kept seeing highlights on red zone since only 3 games were active for a while (Denver game was on weather delay while Rob was blowing up) and came away unimpressed despite the impressive box score stats.

Also, I think I may not have watched any Perine this offseason. He looked smaller and quicker than I expected after hearing everyone call him a plodder.

 
Samje is not looking like he's going to take over for Fat Rob anytime soon with tonight's performance against the Raiders.  This was his chance to seal the deal and he's clearly not doing it.

 
There were a couple runs tonight where he ran into a wall of defenders, and at least from the TV view looked like he could have bounced the run outside for a big gain.  Instead he stutter-stepped and then plodded right back into the muck again.  Nothing screams special about him so far.

I'm not gonna defend him because it looked pretty bad tonight but I would be patient if you can afford it.  Like I said the other day Thompson looks to be the only RB to own for the Skins right now.  In redraft dropping Perine makes sense if you need room.  The fumble was a really good helmet on the ball scenario as his arm got dinged.  I hope it's nothing major.

I'm not saying the fumble should ice him for the year, but Gruden will considering his handling of Perine so far.  I'm cutting him if I have a successful waiver claim this week.

 
just a bruise....still like his upside...they fed him the ball.  I think they may hold Kelly out another wk until the bye and give the kid another chance this week...holding.

They are on the road at a tough venue in Arrowhead, so this may be tough sledding even though the KC run D has been beatable. You may be right that Perine retains the same split of touches (55.9% of rush attempts) but I think Mack Brown deserved a few more looks, and with Thompson looking unstoppable against the Raiders, I wouldn't be surprised to see his rush snap count go up as he deserves it.

Perine really hasn't shown anything special, and I'm dropping him for an upside lotto ticket like Collins or Smallwood, where opportunity may still swing in their favor longer term -- it's clear to me that Perine is what we see, and when Fat Rob is back the opportunity window slams shut. 

 
I hate you gents for seeing the same (bad) news as I saw yesterday. I am heavily invested and sufficiently stubborn to hold on for this year, but he has shown nothing and has been lesser than Kelley, lesser than Thompson, and tragically lesser even than Brown.  Definitely regretting my late 1st round picks for Samaje.

 
Too early for me to jump ship- at least in dynasty. Some rooks take longer to develop than others. I think this year in particular makes it easy to forget that.

 
Per Sleeperbot Gruden said Perine getting the majority of carries.  Where did this come from?  Is Fat Rob hurt?

He's still not practicing on his sprained ankle. It may be a HAS, he has had a week to recover and didn't make any progress.

The biggest problem for Perine isn't opportunity though. It's the fact that he is indistinguishable from Jonathan Stewart, who is nearing the end of his career. 

Edit: Stewart looks better, actually.

A little less invested.  Sold Samaje for Corey Clement and a 2018 (most likely late) first in a 12-team dynasty. I had taken him at the 1.08.

While you are right. Sometimes it takes a rookie more touches before they get into a groove. Not everyone is a Khunt

True. Devonte Freeman looked pretty dull his rookie year on limited touches. Things changed a little bit after that. Who knows when the light will go on for Perine? I keep dropping him and picking him back up when it looks like he will get a chance. He's basically free as $1 usually gets you back on the bandwagon.

 
Perine is pretty unproven with his hands but doesn’t have stone hands.

I know I’m a homer and I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been dissapponted so far, but I think it’s far too early to write him off as a JStew. It really seems like he’s overthinking things and not yet comfortable at the next level.  He’s a super hard worker and he’s pretty smart, and I’m sure everybody in the locker room has his back because he’s a team first guy.  Give it some time and hopefully it will pan out.
