RB Samaje Perine, KC (2 Viewers)

Samaje Perine compiled 100 yards on 24 carries while contributing three catches for 30 yards on four targets Thursday in the Redskins’ Week 12 win over the Giants.

It was a tale of two halves for Perine, who was positively dreadful before the break (three yards on five carries) but excellent after halftime. Perine also helped out in the passing game, though he did commit an ugly drop early in the first quarter. The rookie has now reached 100 yards rushing in back-to-back games and has looked surprisingly good doing it. He’ll be safe to roll out as an RB2 next week at Dallas.
Didn't have great results as a runner early, but got receptions and arguably should've had alot more as Cousins didn't look his way on 4 consecutive plays were he was WIDE OPEN in the flat. Second half he ran hard and showed a bit of burst going into the second level, seems to profile alot like the old Alfred Morris (cumulative carries, wears you down in the 2nd half). To me he seems to have a solid 7-8 FP floor since he won't get game-scripted out of the O; if he can keep grabbing 3-5 receptions a game, that'll raise his floor even higher.

Needs to put two hands on the ball. Seems like he is close to fumbling every game. Otherwise he has been a pleasant surprise.

Pretty amazing numbers considering what he had in first half.  And they were missing 3 parts of the oline.  Must start moving forward

Samaje Perine vs Giants (Thanksgiving) - 130 Yards! BRUISER! | 2017-18 NFL Highlights HD

I think he looks good running the ball here. Looks like the player who interested me in College. Very good one cut RB who has nice burst once he hits the hole. Good pad level always falling forward after contact.

The speed of the NFL is such that I don't really see him having really long runs, but he is a efficient runner and has good timing with the offensive line to hit it at the right time.

Looks good as a receiver also catching the ball with his hands and turning upfielld after the catch.

Reminds of a young Alf Morris. Who else has a lot riding on Samaje tonight?

Dumb not to go for it there IMO, be agressive!
  A bit early to give the Cowboys good field position.

Likely should have tried to get the 1st down instead of checking it down though.

Not too bad of a run after catch by Marshall, but he needed 5 to convert and the throw was likely behind the LOS. If not it was close.

He played well and there is a not so distant universe where Crowder catches that pass in the 1st quarter and is tackled at the 2 and Perine scores the TD. Then we are talking about 70 yards + a TD + 3 catches and a closer game that would allow for more rushing opportunities.

The way the game played out did not help him at all.  Also I saw way too much Marshall, who looked like JAG.  Their best drive was when they went hurry up and Perine stayed in the entire drive.  Doctson got the TD on that one. Cousins and the Oline did nothing to help Samaje.

He got around 9 points in my league.  I have gotten less from my rb2 and won.  Pretty good effort from a guy on an offense that turned it over a bunch of times and a game he got hurt in.  He's staying in my lineup.

After tonight I think you're doing the carrying, what a stinker
As others said, it wasn't Perine's fault. The offense just had one of those bizarre games where nobody could hold on to the ball. If Crowder catches that early pass at the GL, the whole game changes and Perine's stat line with it.

The Washington OC has to recognize the difference between Perine running two yards and going down easily and him running two yards while breaking two skulls and stepping on three beating hearts. If the beast was about to be awakened, you feed it.

I swear the Titans didn't watch Henry in college and the Redskins didn't watch Perine.

Offensive linemen don't high five runners unless it's a TD. If they're high fiving a three-yard run, it's because they saw the beast and they know the show is about to start. Put the playbook down and grab some popcorn.

Geesh it's frustrating

Samaje Perine rushed 12 times for 38 yards in the Redskins' Week 13 loss to the Cowboys, adding three receptions for 31 yards.

It was tough sledding for Perine — and the Redskins' entire offense — behind a banged up line. He received a first half scare when he was sent for a concussion evaluation. Thankfully it came back negative, though Perine was immediately helmet-to-helmeted on one of his return runs. He was not evaluated a second time. The three catches might have been the biggest story, as Perine has now corralled 6-of-7 targets for 61 yards in two games since Chris Thompson's injury. That's a big boost to his floor, and makes him less touchdown dependent, even in standard leagues. The Chargers are a plus matchup for Week 14.
As I said in the game thread, benched Alf Morris because he would get gameflow'd out and Cowboys O was a disaster. "Perine has a safe floor and could get 8-9 FP easy" I thought. Oh boy...

  It was infuriating to see that Perine didn't get enough carries to keep the offensive momentum going.

I mean, he got 6.9 in standard and 9.9 in ppr, so not really off on that side.
I'm talking Standard, but to me it's "he cakewalks to 9, probably more likely to get 13-15 due to volume/TD chances". He had to get that 4th quarter hurry just to reach 6.9, definitely did not expect that from a guy most pundits/FF guys thought was a lock to have a big game. It's an outlier off night that's totally not his fault and it will happen to anyone.

Guys, let's not forget Perine came out of the game for a bit, too -- it's not as if the team was choosing to go another direction early on.

And absolutely the flow into the 2nd quarter really dictated a faster/less ball control, more pass-based need given all of turnovers and DAL's O-line doing enough to help a similarly cruddy Cowboy offense to capitalize on those takeaways for points.

Sometimes the script changes, and what's good for our fantasy team isn't what wins the game on the field.

Like @need2know Perine was good enough for 8+ points in my PPR -- the team hasn't gone a different direction, they are actually using him in the passing game. Many of us may have desperately needed the 15-point RB1 production for playoffs, I know -- but nothing about this game makes me worry whatsoever about using Perine as my RB2 confidently going forward.

Again, was really wrong on this kid and glad to see him truly and tangibly develop from a hesitant plodder to having more patience and running more effectively in the second half of the season.

I had Alf on my bench  :wall:

But am not that upset. Perine ran hard and the Usage in passing game was very promising. He looked like he would take it to the house on his last reception when the o lineman almost stripped it from behind him. Strong, powerful, and semi elusive on a team with good offensive weapons that just couldn’t get it going last night.

I wont be benching him. Chargers next week should be money in the bank. Then Arizona and Denver, both of which aren’t that scary anymore.

Problem is that Samaje did nothing to help the Oline or Cousins either. Perine was directly responsible for one of Cousins strip sacks when Perine blocked his own lineman.

I liked the way he ran and caught the ball, but he has a long way to go on his pass protection, that was one reason why there was so much Marshall in there.

Byron Marshall to IR, Wash just signed Kapri Bibbs.

Perine has disappointed the past few weeks but could be in line for a nice bounce back, I assume he will have an almost every down role this week.  Can't imagine Kapri taking too many snaps if they just signed him today.  Debating between Perine and Alf in my flex for semifinal week.

Any other Perine owners starting him for SEMIFINAL matchup with Cards?

I'm starting him out of lack of other solid RB2/Flex options. Wire has options like Rod Smith and Kerwyn Williams who may provide a higher floor in PPR, or a guy like Gallman who seems to be coming on -- but I think Perine and the volume play may have higher upside. At home in the cold weather may mean more rush attempts.

What makes me really nervous is that WAS, having been eliminated from any playoff contention, has literally nothing to play for, while ARI still does (if only barely). Could easily see the whole Skins team give up entirely in this situation.

think I'm gonna have to go with him because I don't think I can start Miller against Jacksonville.  Hopefully his tum-tum is ok this week.

Wow - today just keeps getting better & better!  He left with the stomach and I thought he strained an adductor or abdomen muscle, or bruised a kidney or something. Instead he was just a little sick! Now I learn Marshall's out and won't be taking his receptions?!?

omg I'm in   all over again. At home vs the so-so Cards with 20+ touches, this is a jackpot. Dunno about all that semen stuff, but I'm starting him. If he scores a couple TD's maybe there'd be some semen I guess. I'm excitable like that.

Open to hearing other opinions, but don't see putting him in over Gordon, Ingram and Collins.  Though based on sheer touch volume, I should reconsider in Collins' case.

Not sure if this worries me at all.  Almost see it as an opportunity for Gruden to test the rookie further to see if Perine has the chops to be a three down banger, kind of like a rehearsal for next years starting job....It's not like AZs offense is a juggernaut

Yeah, and Cousins still doesn't have a job next year, right? He wants to get paid.

perine does not impress me as far as running ability, but he is the only game in town & catches passes so.................

I wasn’t impressed with him at first.

but the more I watched him, the more positives I noticed. For one, he has exceptional vision & burst. This combination allows him to hit the hole hard, even if it means hesitating - not to the extreme of LBell, but in similar style.

Hes got a nice jump cut, and a little wiggld - he can be slippery. But If the hole isn’t there, he suffers for it.

He’s got decent power for his size, though he’s not a power back. He’ll often get a yard or two after contact, IF he’s gotten up a little steam. If he gets hit at the line he’s easier to bring down.

He’s a decent pass catcher - sometimes a very fluid one. Sometimes less than fluid, but at the same time Cousins hasn’t been particularly adept at the touch passes to the RBs.

Is Perine a special player? Not particularly, no.

Is he a guy who makes his own yards and carries a team? Nope - not there either.

But with a good block, he’s a guy who has the burst to get to the next level. He’s a serviceable NFL running back who belongs on a roster, as a backup to a more talented back. His style lends well to a change of pace guy.

As a feature back with 20+ touches at home, he’s an 80-100 RuYd, 20-40 ReYd back. If the Skins get any 1st & goals, he’s the guy who’ll get the carry, and he’s punched it in easily in that situation.

Solid RB2 in FFB, and a solid play with a high floor in week 15. IMO.

Trying to determine if I should still roll with Perine this week. Looked to be a little dinged up after last week’s game. Not sure if Burkhead or McKinnon are worth starting over him in my PPR league.

I’d go with burkhead. He’s the clear goal line back and his floor is pretty solid right now.

Early projections on Perine for this week are all over the place.

Many think ARI will continue their momentum in shutting down opposing run games. ARI D is 8th against fantasy RBs this year, limiting them to 3.5 ypc over the last six weeks. They held the Titans exotic smashmouth to a 2.8 ypc average and just 54 yards.

But I also see projections aligned to the ones @Hot Sauce Guy nails in a great post -- as a volume back, I think Perine's floor any given Sunday is credibly 15 carries, 2 catches, 70 combined, with a 40% shot at a TD.

I am optimistic about Perine this weekend. I'm banking on that grinding production at home in December cold and forecasted rain. I think they'll run him all over a warm weather team with an anemic offense, finding themselves on the road right after a game where Gabbert was shelled with 8 sacks.

^ Agreed.  I have him in over Alf right now.  I see him catching a minimum of 5 balls with Marshall out and a new guy off the street.  Plus the minimimum 12-15 carries and goal line work..... I like it.

The monkey wrench in your plans is that the Redskins have no heart or leadership, and have completely checked out on this season.  Arizona wins in a laugher.
