I see it just the opposite.
With Giants at 2 and needing a QB that is your first problem. Your second problem is the team at 3 does not need a QB but the teams at 5 and 6 badly do and would likely make every effort known to man to jump the Browns if they knew they were sitting back ready to take a QB at 4.
Unless they sign someone like Cousins I simply can't see the Browns spending the next few months researching QB's and just concluding what the heck, we like 2-3 of them exactly the same so let's just get our RB and take what they give us at QB.
What I do think ends up being good news for the Browns is the teams at 5 and 6 I discussed. I see the Colts or Browns taking advantage of that situation and if the Browns want Barkley that's a win/win for them. Might even be a win and a win if they can get one of those teams to move up to #4 and to take a QB and still get Barkley at 5 or 6.
The Browns are in a great situation.

They were in a pretty good situation last draft too
I wonder if they would rather have the #12 pick from last year back, and have taken watson as opposed to the #4 this year. They likely wouldve had the 1 this year anyway, which they couldve leveraged some poor GM for a Rams Redskins type of haul
They got a real GM now. No small thing and as bad as they did not selecting a QB last year what they did do is why they are now in a great situation.
Yes I think in hindsight they'd rather have taken Watson or even Mahomes. I'd venture to guess, even teams that took some real quality players in the top 11 wish they'd have taken Watson or even Mahomes.
Speaking of Watson. Someone posed very interesting question today on twitter. Saints crushed this draft and one of their best picks was Lattimore at 11 who was just what they needed. But with Brees about to be 39 if they had it to do over again would they have preferred Watson?
You take the QB first, there is no question there. It doesn't matter how good Barkley looks as a prospect, he is still just a RB.
I agree if one or two of them rises to the top. As of right now, I've heard a lot of different opinions about who the top QB would be. I'm sure with workouts and the combine Etc the cream will start to rise to the top. But as of now, I've heard different people say that Allen, Rosen, Darnell, and even Mayfield may be the best prospect. I'm not sure if that means there are quite a few great prospects this year or just a bunch of good ones and nobody really standing out.

Exactly. No one wanted Seahawk players like 6 years ago and then Lynch and Wilson got there and he was a top fantasy back. Everyone was scared of Gurley this year because of 2016. Great players will find a way.

It depends how the Browns rank the qbs. If they like them all pretty much the same then you take Barkley first, then you don't give the Giants a chance to trade out or take him and keep Eli for another year or 2.
There's a zero percent chance that the Browns like three QBs evenly enough to make passing on one at pick #1 the correct decision.

You made that percent up and have no idea. There are plenty of scenarios where they could take Barkely at 1. The fact is none of us know right now, because the Browns don't know.
Exactly. Maybe they decide that none of the Qbs are going to be elite NFL quarterbacks. But think that Barkley is the next Marshall Faulk. Bottom line is, if there is a Wentz or Goff in this year's draft, then they should grab him ahead of Barkley. If there's no one better than Winston or Mariota, Barkley is a much better pick.
I didn't make that percentage up. It's zero. Zero percent chance the Browns pass on QB at number 1 overall. Zero percent chance they take a RB at number 1 overall.
Completely and passing on a QB at 1 could leave them potentially picking the 3rd or even 4th QB off the board at pick 4. Not happening.
Only way the Browns are not picking a QB at 1 is if they don't like any of them and sign someone like Cousins. The Browns won't be using pick 4 on a QB, it's 1 or pass.

In dynasty leagues, or in devy leagues where he is already on a roster, what are you being offered for Saquon Barkley? In a couple of devy leagues I've been offered a couple of trades but I turned them down.
Hopkins and 2.05 rookie for Barkley and Cooper and the 1.3 rookie
Devonta Freeman and James Washington for Barkley and Jonnu Smith
Allen Robinson and 1.12 rookie for Barkley
Jamaal Williams for Barkley - can you believe this one?
I think Barkley (barring injury of course) will be a top 10 pick in redraft or dynasty leagues this time next year.

Taking anything but a qb first is stupid beyond belief. Cleveland should have been scouting qbs for months. You pick the one you like the most and take him. I would bet my life that’s what will happen and there’s a 0% chance of Barkley going first overall.

This year I won largely due to the greatness of Gurley and Kamara even though I lost OBJ, Luck, Cook and Wentz. Quality depth is priceless with that being said I’m simply not selling Barkley. Over the past four years I sacrificed a lot to build a strong young team. One that would be not just competitive but to win Championships for years and with 8 more quality picks coming in 2018 with Barkley and Guice already on my roster I plan to win 3 to 4 more Championships.

1.01 for 1.03/1.10/ar15/crowder? Yes. Dynasty trade thread had a different reaction. I thought that was pretty good for a 2 spot dropback. Let’s see where ar15 ends up next season.

I like Barkley but I also think there will be 2-3 other good backs in good landing spots. I like Robinson to bounce back, especially if he tests the market and finds a good qb to throw to him. Crowder is just a depth add. So maybe I’m higher on the guice/love/Harris/chubb tier and felt I needed the depth on this team. Plus I have this fear of quon wasting away in Cleveland or running behind that line in New York- they put the “offensive” in offensive line...

I get what you’re saying and completely understand your point of view. If I’m selling Barkley I still need that one stud. AR15 is no guarantee but “IF” he does bounce back this might work in your favor. In this trade you’ve acquired two WRs so I’d target two RBs with those first two picks you traded for. I’ve finalized my numbers and think you should take a longer look at Penny. If you get a combination of Guice/Penny/Harris then this would be a good trade for you. Penny is my 2b on the board after Barkley, Penny, Guice, and Harris there’s a drop off. There are a few other guys a will look at later this Spring.

I also own the 1.04 so I can take 3 rbs in this draft. I think there are 6-7 teams where the rb spot is up for grabs.

So you’ll have a shot at the best WR in this class too if you want to go that route. This could work out in your favor. Im not sure if there’s a WR worth a top 5 pick but yeah you could come out on top.

I guess you have to ask yourself whether you would do that deal if you were trading Ezekiel Elliott (without the baggage), because that's the kind of trade we're looking at this time next year.

You act is if there's no risk of him being anything other than an immediate elite option. What if his OL stinks? What is his coaching staff sucks and uses him like Crowell? What if he's with a QB that can't keep 9 out of the box? What if he's not as talented as he's being attributed to? Mixon has most, if not all, of those pop up for him this year.

I feel like if AR15 bounces back to where he was valued as a mid first startup pick 2 years ago this definitely works in his favor. No guarantees on either side but if I needed the depth this is exactly the kind of deal I’d be looking to make.
Terrible analogy. Mixon was a 2nd round pick with character concerns. Barkley will be a top 10 (maybe top 5) pick with no off the field concerns.
Besides that, even after a subpar rookie year Mixon can still be traded for a pick in the 1.03-1.06 range. Barkley could fall flat on his face this year and he’ll still retain early 1st round trade value this time next year.

I remember a time when people lost their FF mind for Reggie Bush. A can't miss prospect, national champion, human highlight reel phenom, do it all RB, and top of the NFL draft mega-stud that as going to transcend the game.
People were trading Tomlinson plus some change for Reggie. Ooops.

Mixon was a 2nd round pick because of those character concerns. His talent is through the roof and it's widely agreed he'd have been a much earlier pick without it. My comparison was of having a guy that has incredible talent but one possibility, by having a bad OL/OC/play calling/etc., is that he ends up vastly underperforming. I'm as high on Barkley as I have been about the other hotshot elite RB the last few years like Gurley, EZE, etc but pretending he has no risk is moronic.
I never posited that Barkley wouldn't maintain a great amount of value.

Yes but Zeke is on Dallas and will continue to produce at a high level. Situation matters. I'm as high on Barkley as anyone, but if he goes to a situation like Mixon did, I can't say I won't be disappointed.

Don't rule out the possibility the Colts draft him at # 3. If not at #3, the Browns will take him at #4. If the 49ers want him they are going to have to trade up.

Whether that or Ridley, Kirk, and Robinson, I still prefer Barkley. If Guice drops and it is something like Guice, Kirk, Robinson it is closer but I still prefer Barkley.
