RB Parker Questioned Teammates' Hearts?

Ron Cook, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - [Full Article]

HC Bill Cowher has enough problems. Now Cowher has to deal with the ramifications of public comments from RB Willie Parker, who questioned his teammates' hunger, suggested they are too full of themselves after winning the Super Bowl last season and said there's no "trust" that each player has the next guy's back? Cowher figures to address Parker's comments when the Steelers gather again tomorrow so it doesn't become a divisive issue for the team.

Pick up Davenport now. The lineman will let Parker get crushed.
Not sure if you're serious or not. I'd at least see what you're saying if he questioned the linemen's hunger, but it would appear that he didn't. People buy waaaaay too much into these things. Somehow I don't see Parker being an outcast from the team and getting ready to pack his bags after these heinous statements.

Ironically the biggest question going into this year was if the running game could click without Bettis. FWP is proving to be the great open field runner everyone thought, but also a heck of a short yardage. And for those who might have missed it, he was targetted _9_ times in the passing game this week with Haynes out, for 67 yards and a TD. This guy is turning out to be what fantasy owners knelt down and prayed for at the alter of 'what if' during the off season. Parker could be the next Westbrook/Barber type of all-purpose threat, behind an offensive line that the last couple of years has demolished people. The fact that this team has lost so much is nothing less than astonishing, and speaks to the ridiculous number of mistakes Rothlisberger has brought upon them.

FWP is right, whether he should have said it or not. And he is also CASH MONEY these days in fantasy. On pace for 1550 all purpose yards, 16 TDs, and thats not even barely counting the new found recieving yards he seems likely to cash in on. He's RB6 right now, and getting better. Sick.

I just told a buddy at work this AM that the only Steeler player I will not criticize is Parker. He runs hard, takes hits, pops back up. Breaks long TDs out of simple screens, etc., busts his but on every play. Ward of course is a no brainer in this catagory, but Parker is playing lights out this year. He is even a heck of a goalline back.

Good thing Steelers locked him up before this year.

Depending upon the context, this could also be leadership. Sometimes a team DESERVES to be called out.

I am not in a position to know, maybe some homers will.

I think the quote was taken a little out of context. I heard the whole interview on the radio today and the media is taken the pieces they want out of this. FWP sounded like a guy who understood what was going on. He sounded humbled by this season so far and realized that he needed to look at himself first for improvement on the field. He was asked why the team as a whole wasn't performing and his response included that they weren't hungry any more. They weren't giving everything and leaving it all on the field. I believe he showed maturity and leadership by telling us what he thought.

I heard parts of Cowher's interview too and he mentioned that the media took FWP's comments out of context also.

Not a Steeler fan, but I feel that someone needed to step forward. This team is too talented to play lackluster football. It probably would have been more effective if it was a veteran instead of a second year rb. I like the spunk that Willie is showing.

:towelwave:

Good job Willie. I am glad someone on the team is clinging to their Steeler pride and speaking up.

Where are the player leaders on this team?

The steelers are too good of a team to be 2-6. Someone needs to call them out. If Ben wasn't playing so poorly, he'd be the one.

3rd year.

I thought that he was a rookie last year? Anyway, like I said I am not a Pitt fan. I do think his attitude is good medicene for this team. I've gained some respect for the young man.

FINALLY. I was wondering if Cowher was waiting to see who would fill the leadership void on this team. I think the Steelers will be a better team because of Parker's comments. Roethlisberger has done a good job calling himself out, but he's been too diplomatic to be a real team leader at this point. Maybe he's just not grown into that role yet. Anyways, my 2 cents.

Just my $0.02 but here is what I see from the outside...

The Steelers had a terrific run last year toward and including the playoffs. Kudos!

I think they are an above average team with a QB who is still growing. Ben is world ahead of Rex, but similar situations.

I look at the Steelers similarly to the Patriots. I think they have a "business model" and sometimes this gets in their way. I think the Steelers are 1 top 15 WR from being a great team.

Ward is awesome, plays his heart out. But they need the stretch-the-field guy who is money. I know they try to do this throug the draft. But, when you're on top, you have to try to stay on top and that doesn't happen through the draft. It takes those rookies time, well, unless they are named Colston.

Until the Steelers get a WR to help open the field and add pressure to the defense. The Steelers will continue to force the run into 8 man fronts. The defense will continue to roll coverage over to Wards side. And Ben will continue to make mistakes by forcing the ball to Ward or to an average WR on the other side who is overmatched by the defender.

Again, a Colts homer looking from the outside in. Take it for what it's worth!

I don't see how lack of hunger has any coorelation to RB's & WR's fumbling balls and a QB who won't throw a ball away when WR's are covered. Those are the main issues with the Steelers losses...very black & white and little grey area. This may sound like a cop-out response but I think Steelers lack of success is primarily bad-luck....plain and simple.

Santonio just might be turning into that guy. He's really starting to make an impact.
