RB With the Best Stiff Arm (1 Viewer)

the word that comes to mind from watching this ohio state compilation - DOMINANT.

the phrase "man among boys" has been elicited/evoked in other threads... it comes to mind with the power with which he run through defenders in some of these highlights...

peterson also great, of course (he threw a DB out of the way last season along the left sideline during a stop/start move that was about as strong as i have ever seen)...

* beanie could disappoint this year for a number of reasons (leinart, hightower, defense), but contextual, situational, systemic reasons aside... he is a beast.

I think the best consistent use of the stiff-arm I've ever seen was Jamelle Holieway at OU, and he was 5'9 185.

I guess my point (other than finding a way to bring up Holieway) is that the stiff-arm doesn't need to be connected to physical monstrosity. James Brooks was really good at it, as was Emmitt Smith.

Priest Holmes was a master of the stiff arm. It was definitely the best in the league during his prime.

He was a RB who really worked all of the angles and maximized his ability. He utilized blockers better than any RB I've ever seen, employed his monstrous stiff arm on defenders liberally, and, rather than try to plow through a dozen men at the goal line, would simply leap over everyone with a very high rate of success (starting an NFL trend in the process?).

It's too bad he got a late start and injuries wore him down. He looked HOF for about 3-4 years.

The LT stiff arm on OJ Atogwe was my personal favorite.
as mike tyson would say... that was ludicrous...not a stiff arm, but the worst goring i ever saw (apart from the running of the bulls at pamplona) was earl campbell on rams LB isaiah robertson... worse, i was at the county fair at the time, and got to see it replicated on a wall of TV monitors... if anybody has ever seen a retrospective of his greatest runs, you have definitely seen this...christian okoye had great power for a few years, but was stoned by steve atwater, in one of the most monumental, monolithic (stone henge, easter island-like :lmao: ) hits i have ever witnessed...

Huge fan of

Good posting. I saw the thread title and immediately came in to mention Stewart. Filthiest stiff arm in the NFL at the moment, imo. Watch any highlight package and you'll see him bust it out a half dozen times. It's really his go-to move.If we're counting college highlights, then this Lendale White stiff arm is just nasty.

That's just the one that is remembered. Atwater absolutuely ruined people's days on a regular basis. He made Ronnie Lott look like Deion Sanders, as far as laying the wood is considered.

You guys are doing a Best Stiff Arm thread and Marion the Barbarian isn't included? That's a damn shame.

Hip hop version

While he didnt abuse people with it, one of the most effective users of it was Emmitt Smith. He talked at length about how subtle uses of it, like hitting away the defender's hand, would cause them to miss-tackle. Emmitt didnt plant people with it. But he was really effective using it to help make guys miss him.
