I watched Stay tonight and thought it was good but a little bit confusing.  Good film worth a rental.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I wish I could concur on the "little" bit confusing part. I still don't really know what happened in the movie. Remind me of "Mulholland Drive", which ironcially has the same sexy actress in it.

Anyway, was I the only one (besides Shuke, of course) that thought the White Witch had something going on, particularly in that first scene she's in?

Probably not.  :bag:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm all about Tilda Swinton. The colder and less approachable she appears, the more I want it. ####, I sat through Constantine just to watch her stepping on Keanu's windpipe.

Rented a few movies this weekend:

Dark Town - Like most vampire movies, this one was a bit uneven. They took the "28 Days Later" approach, making the vampires quick and viscious. There were some good action scenes, tons of blood, and some nice girl-on-girl nudity. I'll basically rent anything with a vampire in it, and I thought it was a so-so flick. The production values are VERY low-budget, so the gore is very old school. I couldn't recommend this to anyone outside of it's target audience, but vampire movie buffs might like it.

Match Point - Maybe I just wasn't in the mood, but this was a collassal bore. Scarlett Johannsen is luminous in this picture though, and I liked the work she did here. In fact, all of the performances were top notch. Maybe if I hadn't seen Woody tackle this material in 'Crimes and Misdemeanors' before I would have enjoyed it more.

Domino - The kinda/sorta/maybe bio of female bounty hunter Domino Harvey can only be described as a beautiful mess. The editing was pretty edgy and the direction was crisp. One thing I didn't think would happen...I bought Keira Knightly as a bounty hunter. On paper that seems absurd, but by the second act I wasn't even thinking about it...so that was a surprise. The script and plot were just a total mish-mash and nothing really kept you tied to the movie. This is the type of movie that cable was meant for.

Saw King Kong yesterday. Pretty average.

Interesting start, island was cool, some good action sequences with T-Rexes and insects.

Whoever came up with the love story between Naomi and Kong should be shot - it just didn't work at all. The Brontosaurus stampede was too fake.

I also wondered where the freaky natives went fo rth elast 2/3 of the movie - they flat out disappeared. :o

The Sea Inside -- I watched this last night. It is a Spanish film about assisted suicide. It's a pretty great movie.

The island scenes were top notch effects. The movie itself was simply ok. I thought the freaky native were simple white people painted up to look like black people. Kind of disarming to look at, especially the kids. Watch Fun with **** and Jane this weekend. Tea Leone (sp??) is a babe.

The Island-
Johansen is hot and there are a few good action scenes, otherwise the movie sucked.
It could have ended sooner IMO, but I give extra kudos to movies that make me think. You must admit the idea of rich people getting clones so they can live forever is pretty nuts.

Shhhhhh  well, not that it wasn't given away in any trailer they made about it.

Mrs. Henderson Presents - good cast (which a special nod to Kelly Reilly's breasts - not shown here). It was OK. Whole lot of nudity (none from Dame Judi, GB) made it more watchable.

(Minor role by Christopher Guest. Not typical for him. Meh)

enron - smartest guys in the room

great documentary. some of the phone call recordings between enron traders were unbelievable. total greed.

very interesting documentary there. the amount of BS they were allowed to get away with was astonishing.... proof that big business runs the country.

Watched Waiting..... over the weekend.

A funny moment or two, but was nothing more that Van Wilder now works in a Benningan's

The "pieces of flair" part of Office Space was 10X better and 10X shorter

A History of Violence

6/10

i was practically expecting full-on porn scenes featuring Maria Bello.. don't get me wrong, the cheerleader scene was uber-hot but i thought there would be more.

was REALLY let down when they showed her full-frontal. :sadbanana:

An Unfinished Life - A chick flick that is eh. It has Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman and they do a very good job. The story is just pretty average, though and very boring. Also JLo is a HORRIBLE actress.

House of Flying Daggers - In the Crouching Tiger/Hero realm. I think it's not nearly as good as Crouching Tiger, but better than Hero. It's worth seeing. Plus Zhang Ziyi is in it.

(Minor role by Christopher Guest.  Not typical for him.  Meh)
:kicksrock:
Did you happen to see this one, Nigel? Not saying he wasn't good in it, it just wasn't quite what I was expecting. (There was one LOL scene involving Dame Judi's blunt description of the female nether regions, though.)

No, I haven't seen it. Is it worth it?
It's OK. Rolling Stone gave it 2.5 out of 4. I'd agree.
London, 1937 Mrs. Laura Henderson, a woman of wealth and connections, has just buried her beloved husband. And now she's bored. At 69, she is far too energetic and vital to fade into gentle widowhood. What she needs, says her friend Lady Conway, is a hobby. Collecting diamonds, perhaps? Or doing charitable works? But, to the shock of her friends she instead buys a theatre--the Windmill Theatre in the heart of Soho. She knows nothing about running it, so she hires a manager: enter Vivian Van Damm. Their love-hate relationship sparks fireworks--and historic innovations in British theatre. Van Damm's idea is 'Revuedeville' or non-stop entertainment. It is a first, and the Windmill is packed -- until other theatres copy it. Then it's Laura's turn to devise another first -- put naked girls on stage! But as the bombing of London begins, the government threatens to close the theatre. Mrs. Henderson's fighting spirit is revealed -- and so is the secret that drew her to the Windmill in the first place.

I've seen a few this past week:

Munich

- I liked it. Well made.

Ripley's Game

- Not bad, not great. John Malkovich is always good.

Manchurian Candidate

- Not bad. The original was certainly better.

Have you heard about Guest's upcoming film with the great Ricky Gervais? Sounds really funny. I believe it's called For Your Consideration.

Derailed:thumbup:

Good movie, big twist :)
How was this not a bigger B.O. movie? Thought it was great..
Didn't get much of a push (edit: standard fare for Weinstein), and the reviews were mixed. It did decent box office the first weekend, but the second weekend it was out it was up against a couple of juggernauts (Harry Potter and Walk the Line).

Been on a kick the last few weeks

Waiting 3/10

Sold on an Office Space in a restaurant, thought it would be really funny since I'd worked in a restaurant in high school and college. Really, really low brow humor. Just not that good. Even for a gross out comedy, just not worth watching.

Match Point 7/10

A really solid chick flick. Good story with a really great ending. I haven't seen a lot of Woody Allen stuff so I can't compare, but the wife and I both enjoyed it. Scarlett was great. A really good watch that will earn the guys some bonus points with the SO.

Munich 8/10

Pretty much what I expected. A bit long (2hr 45min), but it is a solid Spielberg film.

Shop Girl 4/10

Steve Martin's novel turned into a movie. Starring Martin, Shwartezman, and Claire Danes, it's a pretty bad movie. Really pretentious and almost condescending with the narrarator making sure we were up to speed the whole time with wordy asides.

David Spade - Take The Hit 6/10

Spade's stand up. Pretty outdated now, but still some good stuff. Not nearly as funny as the first time I watched it on HBO (Titanic jokes while it was still in the theater, etc) but still good for a laugh.

Shop Girl

Match Point - so-so. Not great, not bad, and Scarlett is way hot in it.

Just Friends - Meh, although Amy Smart is hot as hell, and theres some funny parts.

I have Chrystal starring Billy Bob Thornton on deck, will watch tonight.

Wedding Crashers - laughed out loud many times, Vince Vaughn as usual is very funny. Could've used less romantic in this comedy.

Walk the line - Heard some great things here but honestly it was just "meh". Joaquin Phoenix is fantastic but I never really got into this show. Not sure what I expected but Cash really isn't that interesting.

Amityville Horror - Not a bad remake. The original is still better, though. Ryan Reynolds turns into Jason Lee when he plays creepy.

I watched Brokeback Mountain last night.

:tfp:

This was a mess. Beautiful photography. Nice music. But this was BORING. More than 2 hours? This was about 75 minutes worth of material. So many problems here.

Now that I've seen all the beset picture Oscar nominees BESIDES Capote (Walk The Line, Good Night, and Good Luck, Crash), I think Munich was better than all of them. Hell, Syriana was even better than this group.

Walk the Line..... I thought it was excellent.

Gung Ho....... Meh

Killing Zoe........ Nothing better than Eurotrash trying to rob a bank.

Disk 2 of Firefly........ This one is a shame it got the shaft from FOX. This show has very good dialogue and characterization. Some of the stories are a little simple but it an excellent show that deserved better. They should have put it on Saturdays late afternoon/early evening like they did with Star Trek:TNG, Xena, Hercules and StarGate in order to build up a fan base and then try it on primetime.

Half assed watched Domino last night -- it was playing in the background while we had company so I missed most of it. From what I saw, it looked pretty good. Im gonna go watch it and give a final opinion afterwards.

GOOD F'n movie  I love these type of movies. Balls to the wall. Knightly is great (and HOT) as Domino, and Rourke is cool as hell. Delroy Lindo is good as always. And it has Walken

Watching Crash right now. Might not finish it.
Did you rent it or watch it on HBO? HBO listed it as playing last night with the correct summary (Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle...), but it was the old James Spader movie of the same name. Funny if you were watching that thinking, "This won Best Picture?" Although I guess some feel that way about the real thing too.

Yeah, Naomi Watts. This was a great flick. One of the best I have seen in a while. I won't give spoilers, but if you plan on watching it, play close attention to all the characters, even the "background" players, and everything will reconcile beautifully at the end. Pay close attention to the artwork and pictures flashing during the movie.

If you are looking for a good, thought provoking movie that definitely does not follow conventional formulas, this is worth a rental.

The Constant Gardener. Meh 5/10. Not worth a rental, mayble a cable viewing if you have nothing else to do.

Lord of War. 6/10. Borderline rental, entertaining but eft me looking for a real conclusion.

:bag: It did have Spader in it....I didnt even bother looking at the info just sat down and started watching it. And yes I was thinking, WTF is all the hype with this ####?
